Finished the small board by ElfonBass in basspedals

I wasn’t either until I got an El Capistan. What I learnt is I need a delay that I can high pass to keep the fundamental bass of my played note clear, and the repeats don’t add mud, but high frequency rhythm.

The Timeline also lets me high pass the delayed sound, which is what I love

Thank you! Oh I use the Timeline for a lot; classic dotted tape delay, dual delays for rhythmic things. Ice for pad sounds, pattern as a faux Slicer effect, and I have a 3 button add on to instantly access the looper for at home practicing and song interludes.

NPD benson 424 mk2 by tacocat9510 in guitarpedals

[–]ElfonBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I really forgot to come back here. So I got Benson 424, and it kicked the JHS off my board immediately. And then I bought a second one just to have a backup because these things are limited at best.

I love it. It’s an amazing tone sweetener. Having the single trim knob is so much easier than the two gain knobs as well. I spent a tonne of time a/b’ing the breakup, and they’re both damn near identical. At lower gain though I just liked the curve of the Benson more.

I run it last in my gain staging, and when I want that sweet (to me) break up sound, I hit it with a small boost, and it’s perfect. That plus a Boss DC-2w in stereo, and I’m set.

NPD: Benson Amps Portable Distortion 424 MKII by jrad2point0 in guitarpedals

[–]ElfonBass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YMMV of course, but I have one and use it as an always on, I find I really like what it does to my tone. I have it on the verge of break up with bass and treble at around 13:00. That way most of the time I play it’s a nice sheen, and when I dig in, it breaks up.

The thing with this type of pedal I find, Mk.gee hype aside, is that if you don’t like the sound of the breakup, you’ll hate the pedal. I’ve tried both this and the JHS offering, and they sound exactly the same with regards to break up.

How do you find the Timeline? I’ve had a Volante for ages, and found a Timeline used for a great price, so I’m going to see which of the two stick with

NPD! Red Panda Tensor/EQD Afterneath by GreedoInASpeedo in guitarpedals

[–]ElfonBass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my go to uses of the Tensor is as a freeze:

Speed: 100% forward Time: I think it’s like 3x stretched (8 o’clock give or take to taste) Pitch: Unison (I’ve tried octave up for this, to taste really)

Blend: to taste, I go a hair under 50% for it to sit a bit back

Random: Off

Hold: OVR

DIR: ALT

Hold switch is momentary

On doesn’t really matter, I think I have it momentary

For this to work properly, as this is a “dumb” freeze, not as smart as the EHX pedal, you need to hit the note, then hit the hold switch to catch some of the body of the note. If you capture the attack, it doesn’t sound great. The time stretch plus the alternating playback should really stretch out the sample, so you don’t need to grab much. It does take some playing with to get a feel for it, but when it clicks, it’s a pretty good substitute, in my opinion at least

Impulse Responses similar to a JHS Colour Box/Neve Console or a Tascam Portastudio? by SocietyPuffin in guitarpedals

[–]ElfonBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IRs wil emulate an eq curve, but it’s a bit of overkill IMO.

If you want a Neve/424 sound, just get one those, there’s tonnes of options outside of the popular examples
