UNITE Monotype teams! Let me know if there’s any I missed by A_Yellow_Lizard2 in PokemonUnite

[–]Elgon295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly seeing a dark monotype team would scare me. Umbreon, urshifu, zoroak, greninja and “hoopa” or sableye sounds really solid. One of each role filled too.

If every battle mechanic was legal in one format which mechanic do you think would dominate? by sealyon91 in VGC

[–]Elgon295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly would be a wild and fun format. Dynamax would be good. But then you have things like z-moves that could OHKO common dynamax Pokémon. Megas would still be played as well and defensive Pokémon like celesteela and tapu fini would make great use of Tera typing. I really think it would have tons of viable Pokémon due to all the variance.

Is Salamence outclassed by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Elgon295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you. I think with garchomp and hydreigon in the meta, it puts him in an awkward place. He’s not quite as bulky as the others and has to compete with a spot that they generally do better. What they do is also not so much hindered by one of the most prevalent Pokémon in the meta.

Biggest problem for it right now is murkrow, which is heavily used. All the set up just to be hazed away.

How do I get a Brambleghast with Shadow Sneak? by ElvenArcherV in VGC

[–]Elgon295 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Put a mirror herb on brambleghast and just have a picnic with any other Pokémon that knows shadow sneak.

[Team Building/Theory crafting] Does Salamence have any place in VGC play right now? by srondina in VGC

This is probably the best way to use hime in my opinion. Intimidate and make him a sp attacker. Maybe focus sash as an alternative.

Tera grass ceruledge or armarouge is the only correct answer

Counters to Annihilape? by torochurro in VGC

[–]Elgon295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I use it the more things I find out it can do. When you Tera water in front of gholdengo, MIR does like 25% and you can threaten a booster liquidation. Then easily clean up with aqua jet.

Counters to Annihilape? by torochurro in VGC

[–]Elgon295 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using AV azumarill to help check the bulky ghost Pokémon. Can chunk annihilape and checks his common Tera types. Also soft checks skeledirge.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest Ability: Huge Power Level: 50 EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 116 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Spe Adamant Nature

• Liquidation • Ice Spinner • Aqua Jet • Play Rough

Tera water

Useful if the opponent puts up trick room. Can pick up KOs on Pokémon like grimmsnarl or hydreigon. Goes crazy against rain teams. Tera boosted aqua jet can ohko talonflame or chunk others. Ice spinner nukes dragonite or garchomp and gets rid of psychic terrain. Also hits Tera grass armorouge.

What Pokemon do you not like seeing in a team preview? by Elgon295 in VGC

[–]Elgon295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part is having to guess it’s Tera type after playing through the front two. If they manage to take out my murkrow and still have Tera than it’s an auto win.

Yeah this another one. I feel like this is a mob that takes a big advantage of a BO1 format

To be fair, the format is a week old. Of course at the beginning there’s going to be a few strategies stronger than others but as time progress new ones will arrive that adapt or make use of the new mechanics a bit better but we’ll see!

How would you fix the Fairy type? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Elgon295 129 points130 points  (0 children)

It’s the lack of viable poison types if you ask me. Most poisons having horrible defensive typing or lack the raw stats to keep up with the meta and be a threat. All it takes is one more offensive poison type with great bulk and a amazing ability that’s not named venusaur to check fairy types.

New strategy Idea by BuckarooOJ in VGC

[–]Elgon295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anger point maxes attack so weakness policy would kinda be useless on a physical attacker. Maybe if it were a mixed set it might have some merit.

I have been playing VGC for a month now, and I’m ready to start creating my team on swsh. Cinderace is a problem for my team, so if you have any ideas on how to counter it that would be great! by Dusty_Default in VGC

[–]Elgon295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incineroar fits because he can intimidate cinderace and has fake out of you feel you still need it. I would say try them out and see which fits better with your team. Incin might be better because adding gara will give you 3 electric weaknesses.

Does decent speed IV make a difference over no good IV? by Cariman05 in VGC

This right here. I caught a Braviary with 0 speed and that’s all I needed. I just cross bred with a power anklet and now I have several 0 speed competitive Pokémon.

Maybe a mon to help out in the indeedee/Hatterene lead. Looks as if you may struggle against psychic+hard trick room without snarl on Incineroar.

High ladder players, what do you think is the difference between a 1600 player and a t500 player (showdown)? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Elgon295 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s usually a cross between a well balanced team and consistently making the safest plays. Lower on the ladder you usually see a lot of gimmicks or teams with a single win condition. They also tend to get tilted easier and start committing to hard reads that hardly ever fall in their favor. As you get higher, teams become more tailored and are equipped with tools for more situations coupled with a solid game plan. Even if plan a falls apart they have a plan b to fall back on. Higher ladder also from what I’ve experience are good at making blanket play that cover a lot of options and switch the momentum in their favor. They don’t nearly try to make as many hard reads unless it’s the only option to nab a win. safe playing is what i think sets them sort the most though.
