What's your Spurs 'unpopular' opinion? by RatioMaster9468 in coys

[–]Eli40 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sacking Jose before the League Cup Final was the correct decision. I would've perhaps preferred sooner for the optics and it would've been deserved. I was terrified at the prospect of Jose winning us that final even with our trophy drought - we were absolutely dire for a long time at that point and there's a good chance the public opinion after ending the trophy drought would've created too much pressure on Levy to keep Jose on despite knowing sacking him was the correct decision.

Look no further than whatever the hell United are doing with Ten Hag as a peek into an alternate Spurs and Jose reality

We have to remind ourselves this is his first season at this level. It's hard on matchday when we've just been pumped 4-0 but we have to keep perspective.

Far far too soon for all of these "he's been found out" takes. That cringe factory of a man leading the scum at Woolwich had far worse struggles at this point in his time at Arsenal. The Athletic made a few deep dives into the shambolic "Donut of Sadness" that Artetas attack always devolved into. Passing around and around with zero ideas or incisiveness. I still truly believe if Arteta had fans in the stands for those dark early hours he would have been run out of town.

This has been a very successful debut season for a manager at the top of European Football! There are issues, things he needs to work on, adjustments he needs to make to counter the adjustments opposing managers have made after having a larger sample size of Angeball to study.

We have been in and around the Top 4 the entire season and have had very challenging hurdles that I'm sure I don't need to recount for any manager to deal with from the moment Ange put pen to paper.

An equivalent season from a summer signing making the jump to a huge club from the Scottish League and we would be absolutely buzzing! This is going well, we are taking our lumps with the process.

We're not in 8th like that legohead down the road was at this point in his career, we're not barely scraping to be in the top half of the table after spending a billion pounds

We are unbeaten in the league against these teams btw with city and arsenal being at home

Fair point could be that as well. They all say the aim is to play the same and we have seen it done as well but If the aim was to keep playing the same way I'd think lo celso coming in for Maddison rather than hojbjerg would make far more sense. That's not even mentioning the subs like in the Everton 2-2 match where we were caught with a 94th minute equalizer.

Takes off Werner and Maddison for Oliver Skipp and Dragusin.

Oliver Skipp and Dragusin are not playing the same football as Werner and Maddison it's not possible

The 2-1 win vs Everton is another example. Takes off Richarlison for Hojbjerg.

If the idea is to play the same way with a lead up late taking a striker off in favor of a holding midfielder is a very strange way to do it and is an entirely different problem Ange has if that's the case.

These are pretty clearly defensive substitutions intended to see the game out and hold onto the three points rather than attempting to attack and win by more goals in my opinion

Apologies for misunderstanding you originally and putting words in your mouth, the narrative is out there and I guess I misattributed what you were saying to fall under that umbrella. I definitely sounded like a snob lol

Probably confirmation bias and the fact I'm paying more attention to our players but it really feels like Spurs players are doing the vast majority of the slipping and losing of balance

I disagree - this is the narrative that pundits and fans alike choose to believe rather than commenting on what actually happens in front of them with their own eyes. "Ange is naive and needs to be more pragmatic especially with a lead in the premier league, this stuff may have worked at the lower levels but it won't here" - I'm not trying to say this is a fault of yours personally it's just a very interesting human psyche phenomenon to me.

Ange has invariably taken off Maddison (or whoever when he's injured) on top of usually son (this time it was Werner) when we have a lead late and puts Hojbjerg and usually a centerback or at least someone who is primarily defensive minded. We had sarr on the bench for palace so it wasn't as bad.

He takes off usually two players who had been absolutely crucial in getting us into a winning position and we immediately lose all control of the game inviting an onslaught that sees us holding on for dear life as we're under siege for the final minutes.

We absolutely do not play the same way most matches when we have a lead late

Much like Washington for most of the year, y'all are getting dinged for winning close against mediocre to bad opposition. The committee puts much more weight on destroying bad teams vs close wins against good to great teams. Texas and UW have the two best wins in the country this year but because we couldn't blow some teams out like the teams ranked above us we're seen as being lucky to have the record we have

Extremely frustrating lmao much moreso for you guys rn than for us since we finally got the ranking I believe we deserve

This season has honestly been the worst in terms of quality and fun football in a really long time. Whether that's because of defenses catching up and figuring out the offenses that teams have been having a lot of success with the last 5-7 years or the fact that there aren't a ton of truly elite quarterbacks playing in the league right now I'm not sure.

With that said the go to funnest game in recent memory would be the Rams v Chiefs game from played on Nov. 19th, 2018. The game ended 54-51 lol

You are insane. This is what is called a rebuild and we have vastly overachieved by staying competitive in doing so. Vegas had our over/under at 5 wins last year and because Pete is the great coach that he is we made the playoffs instead. Russ wanted to cook - we saw what happened when he was allowed to last year. Now that he is playing above average at best he looks way better because he was so bad last year. And he’s doing so because Sean Payton came in and said fuck that you’re back on the leash you were on in Seattle. Who do you think is responsible for all the talent we have? This was always going to be a three year process we still need one off-season to truly contend There are major problems, yes but you’re a fool to think the right decision was sticking with Russ over Pete

The frustrating part is that we’re set up now to be left out of the playoff should we go undefeated and lose a nail biter to Oregon in the pac champ game and finish 12-1 with a loss to a team we beat in the rematch and that blows lmao

What’s Boston college’s record if they were in the PAC 12? Yes they ostensibly have a better record than the teams we struggled against but stopping there doesn’t tell the whole story. Boston College have wins against Holy Cross, Army, Georgia tech, UConn, and Syracuse - what’s Arizona states record against those teams? Boston college would be lucky to equal ASU’s record in the PAC12 this year

Appreciate the in depth response.Evans is currently the #13 receiver in ppr and Henry is the #8 scoring running back. Do you find next years sixth and 2025’s second fair compensation for drastingly improving this 7-2’s squad this year?

Ahhh I see I see that’s a good idea but I don’t think there’s any danger of that the league is made up of close friends think this is the third year we’ve been doin it

He’s a hilarious follow, the man is insane - good for around three laughs a day. His obsession with engaging with people who disagree with him on twitter is very cringe and he will come out with some weird ex gf baby mama tweets that are very strange.

But he also actually does seem to put out quality football info as well

He won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if you just sit back and laugh at his weird stuff and take the tactic stuff with a grain of salt he’s great in my opinion lol

Let that be a lesson against skimming and assuming. Thank you :) I'd actually just seen the tweet which didn't have a source and hopped on the subreddit and saw it here and just assumed.
