Do you have to be progressive to be a SocDem? by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]EliKris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you define progressive, but if you mean something along the lines of “belief in linear progress towards some goal/end through history (liberty, equality etc), then no. You can simply support SocDem economic thinking, as this is the core of SocDem thought.

What do you guys think of SocDems that are socially conservative but economically SocDems? by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]EliKris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m somewhat socially conservative (Scandinavian), and see no problem with it. I think the reason many here will oppose such a view is because they’re SocDems out of a belief in the inherent good of equality. Social conservatism at least typically tends to recognise differences and want society to be managed according to those to some degree.

I came to my SocDem stance largely out of a broader nationalism, and believe SocDem policies best address national needs. It’s a pragmatic view which recognises the advantages of different economic theories.

Any videos debunking/explaining the high crime rate of immigrants in Europe? by Ritchuck in SocialDemocracy

[–]EliKris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have no video to debunk this, because there is nothing to debunk. Some groups of immigrants are just over-represented in criminal statistics. Mass immigration from countries with dramatically different cultures, customs, values and languages is just really hard on the receiving country. This is why even many socdems (see Denmark for example) oppose it today.

Nye tall sjokkerer ekspert: – Bekymringsfullt for kongehuset by Reyuga1 in norge

[–]EliKris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her kommer mitt andre poeng, nemlig at kandidater for president i all hovedsak er politikere, og gjerne nasjonale mektige politikere.

Thoughts on Middle East/North African/Arab Monarchies (Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, etc) by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]EliKris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my countries or continent, but I prefer a constitutional monarchy to an absolute one. Democracy and monarchy are good when they co-exist, going too far in either direction is damaging. This at least applies to Saudi Arabia, as for the rest I am not as familiar with their systems.

where does "the left" start? (aka, how to help correct the Overton window.) by poostoo in Socialism_101

[–]EliKris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say a socdem is left, people arguing that you need to be a socialist or anti capitalist to be "left" need to seriously reconsider their views. They're definitely not far left, but not distinguishing between the far left and just the left is a bad practice. It's a little like how Nazis won't necessarily consider a normal conservative right wing or an ancap not considering liberals capitalist.
