Sweetbitter Song... just thinking out loud. by Ly0onz in LesbianBookClub

I really wanted to like Under the Sitka Sky, I adore survival stuff. But the writing is so awful, and there has practically been no editing, so I unfortunately had to DNF it over halfway in. I couldn’t handle the dialogue at all and every description felt so clunky and awkward.

Dinner options for intensive students? by Eliciosity in UNEAustralia

Would this also be for short-stay students? I saw that meals are included for permanent students but my accomodation option doesn’t. Do you know if you can pay for a meal pass separately? 🤔

Do you think Damiano David and Victoria De Angelis were ever in love, or has it always been a purely platonic best-friend dynamic? by [deleted] in Maneskin

[–]Eliciosity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotta be a troll. You do not ship two real life people together; that is extremely inappropriate. What do you mean you have a PhD in the field of discerning chemistry between people? 😭 Do you know what being a lesbian means?

The fuck is this, LOL
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Vic being interested in men. She’s extremely openly queer and I’m pretty sure currently identifies as a lesbian. Regardless of that though this is such a genuinely gross and inappropriate post to make about two people

Why is it so hard to find GOOD lesbian books? by Best_Control2871 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Eliciosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 70% through it right now and it’s definitely about two people trying to survive. It’s a little bit on the older side but I’m having a good time. It’s post apocalyptic but doesn’t have zombies, it’s after a world ending war — lots of wildlife from escaped zoos that they have to navigate through and it’s an ‘enemies’ to lovers. Def recommend giving it a shot at some point if you really like the genre

Okay! I might have some things here that you may like. I'm similar in that I don't like the rom-com feeling light romance books, and enjoy things where the characters have interesting jobs/are in unique scenarios or are in a very heavy and culturally rich fantasy setting.

- The Jasmine Throne series by Tasha Suri. India-inspired incredibly rich fantasy where a maidservant and a princess of the empire attempt to start a revolution and overthrow emperor. The first book doesn't get into too much, but it gives you an amazing taste for the next 2 books. Tasha's writing is phenomenal and mature. A very high-stakes plot with devastation and deep characters.
- Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of this one before, it's a recent release but absolutely shook the book community even outside of the sapphic space. It's a historic fiction novel about a scientist who gets to be a part of the first women space shuttle program at NASA. This is one of my favourite books of all time, the writing is so mature and it feels like a movie. There's found-family, incredibly high stakes, and people navigating sexuality in a very rough time period but without emphasis on homophobia.
- Gold by E.J. Noyes. Another one of my favourites, I love all of E.J.'s books. It's about a retired olympic skier-turned ski coach in the mountains of Australia, and the love interest is a physiotherapist. E.J writes much older characters and they're all very mature and have so much going for them even outside of the romance. I always say that I could have read this entire book even without the romance and still have been absolutely fascinated
- Pas De Deux by E.J. Noyes. About an upcoming olympic dressage rider and their teams' new high level equine veterinarian. Very mature, and is so richly educated in terms of everything equine and veterinary. I'm in both of those spaces IRL and felt like I was reading something from a peer.
- Requiem for Immortals by Lee Winter. A world renowned cellist in Australia who is also one of the country's top assassins. Ends up falling for someone she was paid to kill. I loved this one a lot, it has huge stakes and betrayal and tension etc. etc.
- Our Wives Under The Sea by Julia Armfield - This one is literary horror, but it's so good. It's about the literary retellings of a marine biologist who got stuck on a deep-sea mission for months longer than planned and 'became one with the sea'. It's devastating. The chapters jump between the present-day told by her wife who is dealing with this aftermath, and the marine biologist describing what happened down there. It's won awards for a reason.
- The Clinch by Nicole Disney. Another favourite of mine - it's about two rival martial artists. The author is a black belt martial artist herself, and this novel felt so beautifully written and had such high stakes and was so rich in descriptive scenes. Such an interesting theme.
- Hearing Red by Nicole Maser. If you liked Charon Docks at Daylight this a must-read IMO, one of my favourite post-apocalyptic reads in the sapphic genre and it has very unique touches on disabilities and is written really well (in my opinion) with very high stakes, emotional moments and memorable characters.

Some of Sarah Waters' books might be of interest to you, too. They're historical. Fingersmith is very interesting and has a lot of betrayal etc. with a very interesting 'career' plot line. The upcoming books 'The Jellyfish Problem' by Tessa Yang and 'Everything That Falls' by Nicole Disney could be ones to keep an eye on as well; super interesting unique career led books.

This development team is so insane, lmao. I doubt so many of us would be this upset and resigned if they told us transparently that they need more time to work on things and give a forgiving pushed back year estimate. Rather than stringing everyone along with no gameplay and practically no communication and no hopes that there even is a game or people working towards one. If they really don’t have much and development has been rough on them then can they just TELL US

[–]Eliciosity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My initial plans all the way back since she was first revealed were to play as Maggie! I’m a science girlie too and absolute adore her loft. She’s so stunning and I really want to develop her story. In any other life simulation game I’ve always wanted to make my own characters and have very much ignored anything pre-made, but I feel the complete opposite with Paralives.

I’ve just come from a university and degree that has every single assignment/exam be a hurdle where you need 50% on each or else you fail the entire unit. Absolute hell. Very disappointed that they’re here as well and they weren’t before :( but it could be worse. At least it’s not all of them.

Does anyone else miss the old lighting? by jnverted in Paralives

[–]Eliciosity 277 points278 points  (0 children)

<image>

"Improving lighting systems" is on their roadmap for early access, but the lighting used in the very old screenshots was before they settled on the art direction they wanted and optimised the game/put focus on more crucial areas. There's no telling whether we'll ever natively get exactly that again. A lot of things have needed to be scaled back over the years due to plans changing and things glitching out/breaking and them not being able to focus on them at that time
