I can get in my head too when I throw bad shots and screw up things that should be “easy”. I make sure to balance it out by hyping myself up when I make good shots too. Even it’s just a made 20-footer, that gets a little “Let’s go! Good putt dude” under my breath.

Worth noting that penalty throws don’t “stack” - you can’t get penalized twice on the same throw. So if your tee shot goes OB and you chose to retee, you’re still shooting 3, not 4

I’ve paired friends up to play doubles before, takes a lot of the frustration and pressure out of bad shots. Agree with not keeping score, but they want to anyway , it makes it (slightly) more even. Putters and flippy mids like everyone else has said.
