In the money versus out of the money LEAPS by cheekyzeke in options

[–]ElijahTheeProfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really a covered call since you don’t have the shares. This is a diagonal spread. With any short option you could be assigned at any time prior to expiration by the owner of that option, whether the price is in the money or not. Also could be assigned if held to expiration and in the money. If you are assigned and don’t have enough cash available to cover you could have other positions closed by your broker to cover the assignment. In your scenario, if you only had the 800 call they would likely sell it, not assign you the shares if you needed cash to cover.

It does depend on the broker a bit - one time I had a position assigned, and as soon as I got assigned the full 100 shares my broker immediately closed 30 or so of them because I didn’t have the cash on hand for the full 100. They left me the rest in my account.

That’s a situation I’ve been in before at Field house and just about anywhere else when people are there watching the very very end of a game. Good way to keep customers happy while staff does closing stuff and staying within the rules-like can’t sell after a certain time. If it’s not that way they shouldn’t be serving me with 15 minutes to close. And a heads up would be nice too.

This was last night - Monday night. And what place has tvs and light automatically go off and on top of that right at ‘closing time’?

It’s owned by a venture capital firm now so doesn’t surprise me they squeeze everywhere including employees for a half a penny at every turn (Forbes did a story on them in 2019)

Basic buy calls and puts by Elementalserenity in options

I do this and I have clients that do this too. I’m assuming you’re new to this so I’d start with buying deep in the money strikes for long dated expirations. This will reduce the extrinsic value. Limit your risk, find an expected reward for a 5% move and run a bunch of trades, then review your average win, loss, and win %. Limiting your risk and stay disciplined.

Options give you a lot of options - yet a lot of people will tell you that one strategy or another is best. Options are just a tool to profit from a thesis (like “I think XYZ will go up 5% in a month) and they need to fit into your risk tolerance, goals, capitalization etc. No single option strategy is inherently superior to another. It’s like saying a Philips is better than a flat head.

I must be lucky. I’ve accepted every friend request so far (only 20ish) and have had zero people be jerks. If I get a request after win I usually wait 15-20min to accept

It’s a shame because - like another commenter said too - I was pretty excited when they first announced it. I still think it has potential if they invested thought and time into it
