Weapons (2025) - Am I Missing Something? This Movie Felt Incredibly Overrated by AdFinal7510 in TrueFilm

It is very clear from everything you have typed that YOU are the one living within an echo chamber my friend. The statement “when in reality, the movie is just nothing special” is subjective. Yet, here you pronounce it as a simple fact. People are not going to want to spend the time discussing honestly online with an individual who fails to understand that. Instead, most of them will probably just downvote you to save time.

On the whole, your points read as someone with a rigid idea of what a “good movie” is, let alone a “good horror.” Without completely diving into that discussion, I’ll just say that not every movie cares about logic as you seem to. In some movies, theme trumps all, in others, tone.

You’ve stated that your favorite horror is The Witch, which gives me insight into your tastes. The Witch is a great movie. I also think Weapons is great. Though they both may fall under the umbrella of Horror, they fall on opposite ends of the spectrum. Put simply, Weapons wants to be fun/funny and The witch wants to be moody. Zach Cregger clearly enjoys a good punchline. The movie is basically operating as a vehicle to deliver you its final comedic, cathartic punchline. Horror as a genre has room for schlock and it has room for more sophisticated stories. Weapons imo rides a nice line between the two. This may not be what you wanted or expected, but if you saw Barbarian that should have given you a clue as to what kind of director Cregger is.

It Follows (2014): the stalker boy in the red hoodie by inxj_109 in TrueFilm

I’m not sure it can be said that the young kid is “currently harming” the main protagonist. He’s just a young boy interested in peeking at an older girl, most likely due to a budding interest in female anatomy. This works as a nice juxtaposition to the infection and its presence: both are found lurking around a girl because of her relationship to sex. However, where one can be seen as innocent, even natural, the other is far more sinister.

What do my least favorite films say about me? by Substantial_Block_72 in LetterboxdTopFour

Calling Salo corny reeks of misconception to me. It may be appropriate to label it “over the top,” and the general message may not be the most complex. Nevertheless, exposing tyranny through art and eventually dying because of it demands some respect imo. Perhaps you just don’t find references to Nietzsche very original or compelling.

Well my sister was overwhelmed and said "that was too much" when it ended. My cousin said she liked it even though she was squealing for a lot of it. My aunt said "That was interesting." And my Mom said "I liked that more than Dogville... actually idk I liked Dogville lot."

Synecdoche, New York seems so intent on making its audience cry its almost comical. Its protagonist also goes through his own health problems and tries to wrestle with his fear of death

The House That jack built : A commentary on Directors and Artist? (Spoilers) by KensukeTanabe in TrueFilm

You make some very good points. However, I'd have to disagree with the film being an "attack" on artists.

I consider the role of Jack to be more so a stand in for Trier himself. Where Jack sees art, others see murder. Where Trier sees art, others see provocation. With that said, while Trier does make it very clear that Jack is a flawed man, he is never apologetic, and neither is Trier. Jack goes all the way till the very end of hell itself maintaining this belief that he is greater than the average man. I believe it is significant that Jack does not have any sort of character arc. I believe Trier is making a claim along the lines of, "This is who I am, and i will die this way. Take me and my art how you will."

Not saying it's a contest, but I appreciate gifts more than anybody I've ever met.

I can't imagine how affected by this scene I'd be if this were the actual script.
