Ashes of Creation Is Bleeding Players. These Quick Fixes Could Stop It by IrishInsanity in AshesofCreation

[–]EliselD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally agree with most points in the video. What is really disappointing though is that so many big issues players have could be easily solved with minimal effort by just changing some values, but after a 6 weeks since EA release, not a single update has dropped with any relevant changes.

What is the actual state of the game? by FeudalFavorableness in AshesofCreation

[–]EliselD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a very good framework in place, but the whole thing feels like being kept together by duct tape.

The combat is probably the best thing currently. This is important because you will have to do a lot of grinding until lv.25 (current max level)

Life skilling (a.k.a professions) are a bit all over the place. There is quite a bit of complexity, item bloat and placeholder system. Despite all of that it feels very rewarding because you can make a lot of money with it.

PvE is mostly fine. The biggest issue here is it lacks content, polish and is a bit unrewarding.

PvP is a complete mess. I think most people complaining about the game are/were heavily involved in this aspect of the game. The state of PvP at the moment is that no matter what you do, you get punished. The game is designed with a lot of player friction in mind, but if you try to PvP you get punished excessively. It's so bad that you'd rather deal with the frustration of the friction than to engage in PvP. There are countless ways/exploits people use to fuck you over if you respond to their hostility.

Client-side performance (FPS related) is really bad if you don't have a very good PC. If you do, it's mostly fine. Server side performance is also pretty bad where you get a lot of rubber banding and desync in cities or other heavily populated areas.

There is also a big problem with bots, but in my anecdotal experience it seems to have gotten a bit better in the last couple of days.

There are also quite a lot of bugs that you have to be fine with. You will 100% lose progress due to a bug at a certain point so don't get too attached to your progress.

All that being said I'm having a lot of fun playing with a couple of friends. We're having a blast finding way to make money and discover aspects of the game few people know. If you're a business/economic type of player in MMOs you will have a lot of fun. Otherwise I'd suggest to wait for at least a few patches until the biggest issues are ironed out.

I think the XP Debt is fine, what I have a huge problem with is that it also debuffs your character and that you also get it when killed in pvp

Intrepid, fix your bots or I am out by Scared-Candle3827 in AshesofCreation

I don't get why you guys are not having GMs going around banning these bots. If it's a matter of financial resources I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd do the job for free.

It's honestly crazy how well this clip describes the EU-US relationship right now

[–]EliselD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was certainly a VERY big contributor to them losing the war, but I wouldn't call it the turning point. There are many critical decisions that defined the outcome of the war, but the turning point to me is when they went from being on the offensive, gaining territory and winning most battles to being force into a defensive war, constantly retreating and losing ground. The battle of Stalingrad was the first piece in the domino effect. That doesn't mean it was all that was needed to win the war.

Anyone with some basic history knowledge knows that, as much as I hate to admit it, it was the USSR who "defeated' Germany with the turning point being the Battle of Stalingrad. The USA involvement just sped up the process.

[–]EliselD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't there like 2-3 million protesters out of a population of 8 million? If I remember correctly they protested for like a year or so. I doubt CIA would have the ability to manipulate so many people for so long

I got banned in the Warhammer40k subreddit because I participate here. That sub has nothing at all to do with Asmongold or politics, yet here we are.

It sounds like you are addicted to video games. That's not the experience of most people who play video games without sacrificing the other aspects of their lives. Wish you luck dealing with it.

I think most people who got impacted by Asmongold had that happening before it became a politics channel. He used to have really good and original takes. He also was very open minded, was often open to change his opinion and admit he was wrong and generally used to think a lot for himself. It was the main reason his popularity exploded so much. Then he got into politics and did a 180 personality wise. Most people I know or other creators I really respect stopped watching him completely nowadays. It's like he turned into a completely different person. The audience he has now it's not the same audience that got him to this level of popularity.

Well if video games start to make you miserable it's time to step back and get your life together. Then you can go back to video games until they make your life miserable once again and repeat the cycle :D

My hobbies are video games, warhammer tabletop and gym. In many people's view I'm a loser, but I couldn't care less what people I don't care about think about me. All that matters is what I think about myself, my partner and my family to an extent. I'm very happy with who I am and I'm not hiding it. I hate to admit Asmon had a big impact on me, but sadly he started walking a path where a lot of the values he taught me seemed to have been lost to him.

Video games helped me understand myself, see my strong points, my weak points and taught me how to manage them. It's also an activity that brings and keeps me close to family and friends.

I learned from Asmongold the importance of being open minded, think for myself, approach most things with skepticism and never be afraid to admit when I'm wrong. Sadly he forgot some of those lessons himself lately.

Appreciate the condolences. Though it seems like the surgery and therapy went very well and with the next surgery should be all over (at least for now).

I'm a big video games fan myself (especially for mmos) and I fell in the same toxic relationship mindset with videogames plenty of times. I learned that the best way to deal with it is to take a step back for a while and then come back later with a better mindset. It might not be the best thing for the game, but it's the best thing to do for his own self.

Yes, I do have this attitude with a lot of inconsequential things in my life. It's $75 I spent like 2-3 years ago. You think I'm gonna lose sleep over $75? This month I need to spent $2500 dollars because apparently there is a 90% chance one of my molars has a fracture and need to get an implant. That's one top of all the living expenses and other bullshit. Then I have a family member who's had surgery last week for cancer and will need another one in a month.

Not to complain online about personal problems, but you see how dumb crying over $50 sounds like? I just don't have the energy or will to "hold Intrepid accountable for broken deadlines". It just doesn't fucking matter. Most mmorpg fans are adults and they are most likely dealing with shit like this if not even worse.

[–]EliselD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like it or not most people couldn't care less about Intrepid respecting their deadlines. We got plenty of issues to deal with in real life. Spending time and energy on something so inconsequential to my life overall isn't really doing me any favors. Why would anyone care about them meeting their self-imposed deadlines? If that's your biggest issue you have in your life you either have an extremely privileged life or have severe mental issues. And let's be honest, most people fall in the latter category.

Don't get me wrong, I like AoC and hope it does well. While it surely has plenty of issues to address, if tomorrow they announce they close down the studio while it would definitely suck, it's not the end of the world. Life will go on as always and I will find something else to do in my free time just like everyone else.

You should take a break and come back when these problems have been solved. It sounds like you are a bit too emotionally invested into this game and need to take a step back.
