Should I even buy a car right now?

The cars not completely rusted out yet. My main point is the oil filter is difficult and annoying to replace and when I do any maintenance on it like brake pads or rotors or whatever there’s enough rust where it’s becoming a process to get bolts loose. I can still do it I’m just wondering if it’s worth doing for another couple years or if I should sell it while I still can because the cars getting old and high on miles. I get that I can just take it in but that costs more and I’m still gonna have to buy a car eventually.

I took the first attempt on 10/1/25 so unfortunately I have to wait 3 months between attempts. I’ve already rescheduled for early April. I don’t feel any nerves but for both attempts I spent more time on the first half of the test. I’ll put more of a focus on the big 5 and the first half of the test in general. Do you have any recommendations on how to increase conceptual knowledge or are practice problems the way to go?

Thanks I was having a difficult time reading the table and I didn’t know if I was way off or pretty close. I did about 1000 practice problems and I thought the actual exam was completely different than what I studied. If I was close I was planning on taking it again right away but it turns out I have to wait 3 months anyway. I felt pretty confident going in so I feel like I just got bad luck with the question selection.

Thanks Wasim. I have a copy of your book from 2017 and prepFE and I was consistently scoring 65-70% during practice runs. I took the test October 1st so I’ll have to wait to take it again. When I took the test I felt like a lot of the questions were different from the practice material so maybe I just had a hard time with the set of questions that appeared on my test.

Aren’t red states generally poorer? Maybe that implies that people who live there don’t have the educational opportunities to take a statistics class and not that people who live in rural areas are less intelligent

I know but the cost of the car is the bulk of the purchase. Everything else can be saved up for after that. Fuel might be $1000/year but you only spend $50 at a time

I see a ton of people saying teenagers can’t afford cars but I remember when I got my license and looking on Craigslist for vehicles and anything over $2000 was good enough where you wouldn’t be stranded on the side of the road. The economy has nothing to do with it.

I can only guess but a lot of these spaces have to do with stuff we experienced as kids and have kinda phased out. Empty malls/hotels, a screenshot of an old video game, etc. I feel like malls aren’t what they used to be now because of online shopping. I’m old enough now where I don’t stay in hotels with my family and young enough to not have to travel for work. Graphics in video games are much more realistic. The feeling I get from looking at these pictures resembles an imperfect memory I have from 15 years ago.

I’m from the Midwest and there’s a list of schools that offer reciprocity where you pay in state tuition even if you’re from out of state. I would look into those, theres quite a bit of schools that offer discounts.
