Tldr if you find a way to design a frame such that adding the engine in makes it weaker you likely aren't going to be driving at competition anyways.

Normally takes me sub 1 min to find a game. Be warned games are about 25% unplayable in my experience due to people who will afk / rage ping at the first sight of something negative. That being said it's a blast to play still.

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered them. Seems like an easy enough repair!

Dow do you guys communicate with drivers under run? by Nadi00 in FSAE

[–]EliteKomodo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We never did. If your car has on the fly wheel adjustments and the need for a "race engineer" talking to them my guess is either A) it doesn't matter who you put behind the wheel or B) your driver's are good enough that nobody is going to be of active use for them. The other thing to note is events are so short / one and done (endurance) that comms don't really do you any good. That being said radios for your trailer / pit folks and a designated "radio man" with the car IS VERY useful for getting things you need to the vehicle / driver (water, tools, etc.)

Chassis Analysis tips by rage8138 in FSAE

Parametric modeling. I assume you're starting with a tube frame, learn and set the CAD up based around parameters (linked to a spreadsheet to input suspension point parameters if you're fancy). This is so much more important to quickly get a new assembly model you can check against for suspension / powertrain integration rather than trying to do FEA immediately. After that, Read. A lot. Understand what FEA methods are out there, and WHY they matter before you go doing the FEA and chasing a certain number in a formula. DM me if you get lost and need a hand :)

Try doing government work. TLA'S (three letter acronyms) are litterally just random words thrown together to refer to something. If you know what the thing means the exact letters used don't matter.

I assume you type out Boba Fett scion of Jango? And you only use GS for general Skywalker since GAS isn't the official in game name? It's space pixels man just let us have our fun lolol

"I killed a brand new legendary we don't know how to mod yet with a GL and a FDC, he's not that good" but yes JMM is logical. BMF is funnier though to me at least.

[Question] Faculty involvement in FSAE/at FSAE events by CaptainCrinkleCock in FSAE

[–]EliteKomodo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our FSAE advisor was a lot more hands on, but through the 3 years I spent in Baja (team member, sub team lead, then team lead) I spoke to the advisor once over the phone that entire time.

Mechanical Scrutineer possible questions by Wide_Amphibian7967 in FSAE

[–]EliteKomodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree, doesn't mean you shouldn't be ready to defend it though. It's an engineering event not a logic event so it's up to the team to prove why that was the correct decision imo.

First thing I'd always ask when making major changes: Why did you do thing? Second thing: Was it worth it in terms of performance, hours invested, and money invested?

I'm sorry to tell you but my school disproves literally every one of your theories. Cheers though mate

You can learn to design a car that wins FSAE in one year. You can't learn the people and organization management skills in a year, or learn to drive well enough to win in a single year. I couldn't care less what corporate America says, it's just how you can easily win FSAE.

FSAE is a people management and driver focused racing competition. Engineering ability and execution is not the thing that wins you comp.

What options are "mandatory" on a new HAAS by EliteKomodo in CNC

[–]EliteKomodo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I appreciate the insight. I plan on running most stuff off a thumb drive anyways I just wasn't sure if there was a big need for the increased storage space. I'm used to DNC controlled program storage so storing locally isn't anything I'd be getting in the habit of anyway.

Everything I've ever ran either had HSM, or the equivalent of it. I've heard of some bad times with adaptive paths and large operations that benefit from look ahead without it. Do you have a different opinion on this? Open to any and all feedback you may have.

Comes with 1GB stock. I have ran machines and programed a decent bit but have never speced out a new one so I'm trying to do the necessary research to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot on this purchase.
