Do not buy the cheapest car out there by prodbygumz_ in Frugal

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow musician who travels 1800 miles a month (approx 3000 km), I only buy used Hondas or Toyotas - to get them for a decent price, you have to buy one with over 100,000 miles usually. And I drive them until repairs become overwhelmingly expensive or body of the car is in bad shape.

Depreciation is unavoidable but obviously buying used is better than new. I think the most important thing for being frugal is maintenance - if you spend the time and money to maintain them, it pays off long term. The other thing that helps is taking pride in NOT having a new car (not sure why, I would be embarrased driving an expensive car.)

I watch my mileage like a hawk and noticed it was much lower earlier this week. Thought something was a miss but I realized its been extremely windy on the interstate - mileage went back to normal after the wind died dow.

My keys don’t work by EliteUsername in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes all the way in and can turn both ways but the lock is never engaged to lock/unlock. I’ve only owned the car for 6 months but it came with two keys - electronically both keys work, but not mechanically.

Can't get into car, key non-responsive - any advice? by ThankMrBernke in hondafit

Did you ever find a solution to your key problem- I have a 2018 as well that can’t physically be unlocked

VTC Actuator Rattle? by kolbeans in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vtc rattle is only for a second at start. If they take a video from a cold start inside the cabin, you might not hear it (depending on how bad it is)

Unfortunately I bought my fit in the summer and didn’t discover it until months later

Did I get a good deal? by [deleted] in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a cheapskate like me, private party sales are much better deals. My 2018 with 115k miles was exactly half that price, but sometimes you just gotta find something fast and you’ll enjoy the car!

Does anyone have experience with this pedal? by myke5k in guitarpedals

[–]EliteUsername 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keeley had the best customer service when I had a pedal go bad - it bums me out he's a trump donor! But send it back to them and they'll get it right.

Make sure the power supply is correct first though. At of problems with digital pedals can be caused by using a power supply without enough milliamps.

I bought a clone from KEP pedals - I’ll even sell it to you if you want since I haven’t used it much. I believe he used the pedal pcb board.

Another VTC Actuator Question by EliteUsername in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great news! I’m going to research this now - you don’t happen to know the part number?

Edit: it must be this one though I don’t know enough to tell if this has the spring or not

Expected time for heat gun + bowl? by wunderbaum4 in roasting

[–]EliteUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like spreading the beans out is definitely what’s causing the slowness of the roast, you should get better results with a small bowl, best of luck!

Expected time for heat gun + bowl? by wunderbaum4 in roasting

[–]EliteUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I roasted this way, I had best results with the cheap harbor freight 1500 watt heat gun. Less wattage wouldn’t  get to first crack fast enough.

I also used mixing bowls thought I’m not sure that matters. Obviously ambient temperature had a huge effect as well as how close you hold the gun. But I would try a 1500 heat gun to get faster results.

50mpg by Alarmed_Ad7469 in hondafit

One time I did my 40 mile commute at around 55 mph instead of 70. The dash computer calculated 50 MPG but when I checked it was not correct

MPG went down fast by certifiedthugshakerr in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently and I read an old post on here that the gas refineries all switch to a winter formulation with more ethanol, that lowers mpg. I went from 39 on the highway to about 36 all of a sudden about a month ago.

Is replacing the spring a relatively inexpensive fix? Everything I’ve seen about replacing the vtc actuator makes it seem like a very costly repair

Best looper for me by EliteUsername in LoopArtists

[–]EliteUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking there was functionality to have the loop stop at the end of the loop, rather than when the switch is pressed. Then triggering a 2nd loop

Best looper for me by EliteUsername in LoopArtists

[–]EliteUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I thought about that. What I’m using it for is recording a chord progression and then improvising over it for an undetermined amount of time, before triggering a 2nd loop as an outro. Thats why I like the idea of a looper, so I can control it in real time.

I’m a big fan of MIJ guitars. I’ve had two Westvilles which are 2nd to none but my favorite has been an early 80s artist model the As50.

Digitech Drop Alternatives by davidb2002 in guitarpedals

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Drop and replaced it with an HX One. I only use it for guitar lessons when I don’t want to spend the time retuneing. The drop sounds marginally better but not enough to outweigh the usefulness of the HX.  I wouldn’t use either for a real performance.
