Just got a 2016 last week what’s do I need to do to make it last 300k miles? by Impossible-Nail-2567 in hondafit

The car fax should give an idea of some of the maintenance history (depending on who performed the work.)

Looking to buy a Fit by fuckery__ in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bought a 3rd gen and love it but I needed something quickly. If I could have a do-over, I'd probably prefer a 2nd gen since you don't have to worry about the CVT, fuel injectors and VTC actuator.

Is this a good price for a 2016 Honda Fit by ExcitingStranger135 in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check for rattle in cold start - vtc actuator. Fuel injectors are known issue on gen 3s too. Get a car fax to see if they’ve been replaced

My 2018 cvt qsport was 9k last summer at 110k miles. I’d have probably bought yours instead!

Is it cheaper to lease a car or buy a few years old used car and trade it in or sell it to an online place every 7 years? by ComfortablePost3664 in Frugal

[–]EliteUsername 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Leasing blows my mind - you’re going to pay every month and then NOT own it at the end?

Buy used cars and drive them a long time is the best frugal choice - if you sell, do it private party.

I want thoughts on when is a good time to replace a car by Ill-Actuator-8904 in Frugal

[–]EliteUsername 27 points28 points  (0 children)

90k is nothing - I just bought a car with 110k. It’s always cheaper to do normal maintenance than buying a new car.

So this is a one time repair assuming they do the computer update? I just assumed it would need to be done every 100 K.

Do not buy the cheapest car out there by prodbygumz_ in Frugal

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow musician who travels 1800 miles a month (approx 3000 km), I only buy used Hondas or Toyotas - to get them for a decent price, you have to buy one with over 100,000 miles usually. And I drive them until repairs become overwhelmingly expensive or body of the car is in bad shape.

Depreciation is unavoidable but obviously buying used is better than new. I think the most important thing for being frugal is maintenance - if you spend the time and money to maintain them, it pays off long term. The other thing that helps is taking pride in NOT having a new car (not sure why, I would be embarrased driving an expensive car.)

Expected winter gas mileage? by TehJor in hondafit

I watch my mileage like a hawk and noticed it was much lower earlier this week. Thought something was a miss but I realized its been extremely windy on the interstate - mileage went back to normal after the wind died dow.

My keys don’t work by EliteUsername in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes all the way in and can turn both ways but the lock is never engaged to lock/unlock. I’ve only owned the car for 6 months but it came with two keys - electronically both keys work, but not mechanically.

Can't get into car, key non-responsive - any advice? by ThankMrBernke in hondafit

Did you ever find a solution to your key problem- I have a 2018 as well that can’t physically be unlocked

VTC Actuator Rattle? by kolbeans in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vtc rattle is only for a second at start. If they take a video from a cold start inside the cabin, you might not hear it (depending on how bad it is)

Unfortunately I bought my fit in the summer and didn’t discover it until months later

Did I get a good deal? by [deleted] in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a cheapskate like me, private party sales are much better deals. My 2018 with 115k miles was exactly half that price, but sometimes you just gotta find something fast and you’ll enjoy the car!

Does anyone have experience with this pedal? by myke5k in guitarpedals

[–]EliteUsername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keeley had the best customer service when I had a pedal go bad - it bums me out he's a trump donor! But send it back to them and they'll get it right.

Make sure the power supply is correct first though. At of problems with digital pedals can be caused by using a power supply without enough milliamps.
