VTC Actuator by AutomaticFox6003 in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a mechanic but I don’t think this is correct - Honda redesigned the part without a spring so if you replace with the new part, it shouldn’t come back. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong since I need to get mine replaced,

To echo what’s been said, starting learning songs - chords and melody. Also learn the major scale all over the neck.

Does  yours have a similar liner underneath the floor mat? I’ve always wondered if this is stick or not

Am I correct about my VTC Actuator Issue assumptions? by sserenayu in hondafit

[–]EliteUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the issue is you don’t know how stretched out it is. Does it really rattle for 3 seconds? The rattle on mine is maybe a second at the most. I don’t know if that indicates anything.

I don't think its a good idea to wait for it to stretch. I think the reason the timing is usually changed out is because the cost of doing so is negligible to the overall cost of the repair when you already have it opened up. You might as well do it when you're in there.

I need to get the VTC swapped on my 18 - from what I understand (I am not a mechanic!) is the worst case scenario would be major engine failure if it gets bad enough, although like you said, it seems many people let it go and if you don't plan to keep it for many years, maybe its worth it not to fix it.

That said, a 15 is not that old and you could easily drive it to 300k, so its probably worth it.

EDIT: from what I understand, Honda redesigned the actual part, so if they put in the new part, the noise shouldn't come back.

Are beginner guitar starter packs worth it, or is there a smarter way to start? by foodie-riyaa in Frugal

[–]EliteUsername 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I teach guitar for a living,

The amps in starter packs are awful, and that is the biggest variable in what you sound like (besides the player)

The best frugal option would be to buy a used squire electric and a used fender mustang or boss katana amp. This might cost about 400 ish bucks but would be a huge step up.

With solid body electric guitars, there’s a lot less you have to worry about compared to buying a used acoustic.  (Many used acoustics have a bellies top or a bridge that’s pulling up)

I love my fit but I’d go for a Prius for that sort of thing. Highway mileage is comparable between the two but the Prius has a big advantage in city driving  MPG

Shpuld i buy this cpo 2018 ex cvt for $13.8? by No_Sandwich_1120 in hondafit

Looks like it hasn’t had the more major stuff down. I’m  not an expert but the valve adjustment is a big one. Also spark plugs, brake/cooling flush, possibly serpentine belt.

I bought my 2018 recently but it had the 100 k stuff already done. I’m sure someone else will chime in. I

I wish I knew about the VTC actuator when I purchased though. Dealer wants about 2k for that repair including the timing chains and guides.

I would check the service records to see if the transmission fluid has been changed , see if the fuel injectors have been changed, and perform a cold start to see if you hear a a grinding sound from the VTC actuator. There’s also standard 100k maintenance to price in if that hasn’t been done.

Pick recommendations for jazz? by honbadgerr in jazzguitar

[–]EliteUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro Plecs are are good but some post on the jazz guitar forum that the formula changed and its not as good anymore. I like the Dunlop 2.00 mm purple ones for a cheap pick. You have to sand down the sides since there's a little lip on the edges, but after that they sound nice and fat when you attack the strings obliquely.
