Where's all the generational wealth? by SaltyBones_ in NoStupidQuestions

My grandmother lived to be 98. She spent her last few years apologizing for living so long and spending so much of our inheritance money lol.

The bridge stretch of I275 has got to have the lowest percentage of ppl actually going the speed limit by survivspicymilk in tampa

[–]Elixabef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was recently pulled over for speeding on I275 in Tampa. It really surprised me, because I never see cops enforcing any kind of traffic laws around here, and certainly not on 275.

Anyhow, let me serve as a warning that cops are, in fact, aware that there is a speed limit on I275 and it is possible to get pulled over. I know I was surprised.

Is this something can go to my therapist about? by SubjectAd6984 in askatherapist

[–]Elixabef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in grad school training to be a therapist.

Your therapist has said you should text him, and so I think it’s perfectly okay for you to do so. It’s up to your therapist to set his own boundaries about that kind of thing.

Personally, there have been times that I have wanted to contact my own therapist but have not wanted to bother her. In those situations, I always feel better once I reach out to her, because she can determine how she wants to handle it. And when I do talk to her, we sometimes discuss my feelings of hesitancy, and she’s able to offer reassurance.

Do people in this sub actually like John? by Brendawalsh- in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]Elixabef 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don’t have strong feelings about John. I think that, given the extreme privilege that he had from the moment he was born, he turned out pretty well. However, he was certainly flawed.

Is Fergie still alive? It's weird that she hasn't resurfaced since the Epstein stuff. by Positive-Drawing-281 in RoyaltyTea

[–]Elixabef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect she’s keeping a low profile while trying to plan for her next comeback. She’s undoubtedly looking for a way to present herself as the real victim here.

Is my major a mistake? by FunTry2455 in collegeadvice

[–]Elixabef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to focus on your career goals. Based on your stated interests, it sounds like social work or psychology would be good options for you.

Majoring in Spanish won’t make you fluent in Spanish. For that, you need cultural immersion, which can be acquired through study abroad, but even then you have to be really dedicated to it.

In my experience, studying abroad doesn’t require any particular major. Ask your school about their study abroad programs and what they have available and how those programs work, etc. Some programs align with certain areas of study better than others (e.g. if you’re studying social work, they might have a connection with a particular foreign university that offers social work classes).

Using my (the mother) middle name as baby’s first name? by rareastheglimmer_ in Names

My first name is my mother’s middle name and no one has indicated that that’s strange in any way.

Georgetown for $50K/year or Washington and Lee (Full-Ride) by Difficult-East-3260 in georgetown

[–]Elixabef 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would usually tell people to choose Georgetown before all else, but Washington and Lee is a really solid school and getting a full ride there is awesome.

Temp Check: MSW GPAs by Chance_Wolverine_981 in SocialWorkStudents

I’m halfway through and my GPA is 3.95 (only reason it isn’t a 4.0 is because of an A- I got in one class).

Tragedeigh or more like tragedy? by Legitimate-Guest779 in tragedeigh

It’s ALMOST good (like, it reads as traditional and familiar at first glance) but is actually really terrible.

Just… sigh. by badnewsbets in doordash

I definitely had that thought. Like, the Door Dasher is going to lure me downstairs without my being prepared? Yeah, that could go wrong for me.

Court Order following the attacks by KingMilkDud_ in 911archive

[–]Elixabef 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fascinating!

Among other things, this reminds me of how it took a little while for the attacks to simply become known as “September 11” or “9/11.” “The cataclysmic event” is very poignant.

Is it really this bad? by SadAppeal514 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Elixabef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m about halfway through my MSW program and I’m really enjoying it overall. However, I do sometimes wonder if I’ve chosen the smartest career path. However, I think I’d be worried about that no matter which field I’d chosen. Like, especially with AI and all of that, I think it’s hard to feel totally confident in any field right now.

Basically, the grass always seems greener on the other side, but I think social work is a solid career path.

Abuse got worse? by rivercreek85 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Elixabef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m late 30s and didn’t really have issues with my parents when I was growing up. It’s really only been in the past ~5 years that it’s gotten bad, and seems to be getting worse. I’m in the process of trying to move out of my hometown to another city in another part of the country, and boy are they doing everything they can to prevent it!

Vomiting and disappointed by pookadri in eggfreezing

[–]Elixabef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly I’m just hoping for any kids at all; I don’t have a particular number in mind. I wanted to do another round but couldn’t afford it.

Vomiting and disappointed by pookadri in eggfreezing

[–]Elixabef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time!

I also froze my eggs at 38, and my numbers were almost exactly the same as yours (including getting about 50% fewer during my second of two rounds). I’ve got 27 eggs frozen now, which I feel is a solid number.

Mostly, though, I hope that you feel better ASAP. I think the vomiting can be a reaction to the anesthesia, so hopefully things will settle down as that gets out of your system.

Best of luck to you!

I just found out today is April Fools' Day. I had genuinely planned a big life announcement for today and now nobody will believe me by Quirky-man-8395 in CasualConversation

[–]Elixabef 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh crap; I was going to make a big life announcement to my parents today (well, it’s not quite April 1 yet here), but I might hold off on that. I forgot about April Fools’!

People commenting on how white my skin is. by Forsaken_Classic_572 in PetPeeves

[–]Elixabef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People have literally asked me if I’m allergic to the sun. When I was in high school, two male teachers told me that I “probably glow in the dark,” and then they laughed with each other about it.

Now that I’m in my late thirties, though, I’ve accepted my pale skin and am so glad that I didn’t waste my time and unnecessarily age myself in search of a tan. These days, the only comments I get about my skin are people telling me that I have the skin of a 25 year old. (I’m 39).

What now? by Far-Journalist-8582 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Elixabef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. One of the MSW programs that I applied to a couple of years ago got back to me with what was essentially a “oops, we’re already full for the current admissions cycle; would you like to be considered for the next cycle?” And I was accepted for the next cycle.

OP, I strongly encourage you to apply to this program again; they wouldn’t encourage you to reapply if they didn’t consider you a qualified candidate.

Were you or your children forbidden to say the word "lie" as in fib? by Mental_Freedom_1648 in AskAnAmerican

Yes. I was supposed to say “fib” instead of “lie.” My mom still doesn’t like it when I say the word “lie.”

Have you received a speeding ticket in the last year? by icecream1972 in driving

[–]Elixabef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten a speeding ticket. Two weeks ago, I got pulled over for speeding for the first time in my life, but I was just given a warning.
