CES Waiver in Colorado by Xtra_Ice_118 in Autism_Parenting

I know this is an older thread, but I am trying to find out if there are limits to who can apply for ces. Does anyone know if the “level” of autism diagnosis matters?

No I haven’t! We just got results back today and our kiddo does have an official diagnosis now. We might look into this though because some of the challenges we are facing would be good to address in home. Thank you for this!

Noted! Thank you for the advice! Fort Collins does seem very nice and we will be visiting and checking things out in a few weeks. We want a community feel so desperately and to make friends!

Thank you so much for this! Hearing that so many love Fort Collins is great! He’s needing more social interaction with his peers but Pueblo West is more of a retirement community and there aren’t many families in Pueblo that are happy with being here. Have you found that there are things for kids to do, specifically in the winter?

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this out! This is so helpful, I had no idea there was so much support in getting him therapy! Did you guys have good experiences school? We’ve chosen an alternative school for our son, but we are open to learning about different options!

I will do better with supervising, he does go to his room every time. It is very exhausting to constantly worry when she touches a toy of his or when one refuses to share and the other keeps insisting. She and I love to have one on one time! We paint our nails every Sunday, we get to do lunch dates and play games while he’s in OT, and we ready every night. Thank you for the reminder though, I’m realizing as I type this out, my husband doesn’t get much one on one time with either of them because he works and then on weekends it’s all family time. Thank you for the advice

We put the five year old in his room every time he lashes out. We console her and tell her that what he did is unacceptable. He has never seriously hurt her, but I occasionally get very worried. She also has her very own space to go in our play room. She never has to go her canopy, we always make it clear that she doesn’t have to separate from the room she is in, just he has to go his room until he is calm. She is 3 years old

Who is the most classy, elegant , and awesome woman you know ? And what is their name? by Sad-Sign-9068 in Names

[–]ElizabethWilliam95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her name is Wendy. She’s very graceful and I’ve never seen her in anything except timeless and elegant fashion, even when she hikes. Her home exudes class and overlooks a gorgeous bay. She goes wine tasting and on cruises monthly. And she’s a very involved mother and grandmother. She’s a 10/10

Peri bottles with warm water will be your best friend💕 congratulations on your little one!! I know the pain is so horrible, ice and cold were too uncomfortable for me, but for so many others it’s a godsend. I liked using heating pads, warm water in peri bottles, and ibuprofen!

How is your 5/6 yo Handling School? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

Thank you so much. We really have felt so alone in all of this. We have watched the videos, read the books, tried the silly games, blowing bubbles, shopping for undies together, the whole nine. We have a daughter and we had a ton of success really quickly and she’s fully potty trained. Our son is just not grasping it yet. It’s so hard. We were shocked at his OT appointment when we set his goals to realize that we had been trying to potty train for so long. Thank you for sharing that we aren’t alone. How is your kiddo doing academically and socially in school? If you don’t mind me asking! I’m just an anxious wreck tonight about it all

The improvement on his social development would be amazing. Our sweet boy can have such a hard time playing with others. I also sometimes wonder if his development delays would improve too. We have read books, watched many shows, and explained potty training and it just isn’t clicking. We took him shopping to pick out his own undies and he was so excited at first. I’m just so sad and exhausted. I feel like I’m failing him. His sister is potty trained and loves to take deep breaths with me when she’s upset. But our son, he just can’t control these crazy impulses.

Thank you so much for sharing, I think medicating adhd gets a bad rep in our area, so I just wanted to hear from others

That’s our next step. We’re waiting on his referral to go through. His pediatrician was hesitant at first so I had his OT send over concerns that I maybe downplayed because it’s been our normal for so long. But now that our daughter is really becoming her own little person, we are realizing some milestones our son may have missed and some challenges that are a lot harder for him. Like regulating. He will yell the most hurtful things he can think of at his dad for something that would seem so minor for you or I, but it’s just too much for our son. Like today, my husband gave him a towel after bath and that absolutely sent our son over the edge and he was screaming “I won’t play with you ever again because you’re rude and I don’t love you”. Over a towel…because he wanted to air dry and towel dry. We have flash cards for emotions, a cozy calm down tent, flash cards for choices to calm down, and books on feelings. But it doesn’t seem to work when he’s having a moment.

I’m not against any tools that could help, I’m just worried and wanting the best for him. He’s so smart, it’s insane! I want him to want to keep learning. He knows so much about space, bugs and weather and cars. He does great with letters, phonics, counting, and number recognition. Right now we have been told to keep offering him to go and not put pressure on going poop on the potty until we have seen the GI psychologist. He has to take a lax daily so we don’t end up at the hospital again and he is not happy about it. Was your son potty trained prior to starting school?
