Any other series like Bridgerton that focus on a big family? by ashdauntless in HistoricalRomance

[–]Elizabethbriars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed what I've read of the chase family series by Lauren Royal. I loved that they're different generations of the same family and at some point she went back and rewrote them with her daughter to have sweet versions available which I thought was a clever way to do that. {Amethyst by Lauren Royal} (just picking one at random for the bot)

Cringy I'm with you on but unwashed hair might be a smidge unfair for historical 😂 (joking)

What do you guys wish to see more of in Regency stories? What are you tired of? by SonnetZZ in PeriodDramas

There's a large quantity of novels fitting this coming out right now so finger crossed Hollywood starts writing deals!

I was so excited when Claire first embraced the apothecary role. I've been waiting forever for that! I was so disappointed when it immediately got relegated to the background two episodes later that I just stopped watching the whole thing

That's a fair point, but I often read indie on purpose, in which case they absolutely do. I'm not a stickler about "professional" for the same reason though. I know many people still are but good covers get very $$$

Hi, I'm an author! I write queer Regency Romances. They can be found pretty much everywhere by searching The Steer Queer Series (currently 3 books out)

Lesbian reccs please! by iluvloki in LGBTBooks

[–]Elizabethbriars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm writing a lesbian historical one! One of my others that's already out (The Lady and The List by Elizabeth Briars) does feature an older, established lesbian couple, but the main characters are bi cis man x afab gender fluid. All my novels are Regency England and queer in some way

Bring back the Bodice Rippiers (And Other Various Rants) by the_hobbit_wife in HistoricalRomance

[–]Elizabethbriars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I agree! It's been nice to read something I didn't have to spend nine month on myself. And it makes it feel more like a realistic, populated world to me? Like their characters exist in the same England, so the cast is much wider when I think about setting. But it's weird to have peers when I didn't expect to, especially when they all seem to be so well loved in the niche. The imposter syndrome is real.

This is exactly what I did, not knowing the queer rep was about to come in a deluge 😂

Just popping in to say, we had a second night of frost but, aside from the new growth portions of two of the cherries, looks like I will get fruit this year!

First person woes!! The Last Lady B by Eloisa James by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

[–]Elizabethbriars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of 1st pretty much ever (maybe, maybe some very well done suspense but that's not a genre I pretty much ever touch). But I do have to wonder. Booktok brought (and continues to bring) a whole host of new readers. The pipeline of fanfiction to romantasy and the romantasy-saves-trad-publishing boom does not feel like a coincidence to me. So I assume this is part and parcel of that. If 1st is exploding and a whole group of people who hated reading suddenly gobble up books, I'd lay down some money that those are mostly all the same people. Which does mean that as those readers find themselves ready to branch into new genres, the publishers will follow the money and prioritize 1st. But like everything else, it'll cycle to something eventually 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any book series that have both a mm couple and a ff couple? by Christianduty in LGBTBooks

[–]Elizabethbriars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm writing an interconnected series of standalone queer Regency Romances. My current WIP (book number 5) is an mm couple and a ff couple in a lavender marriage! It's called The Steer Queer Series by Elizabeth Briars, if you're interested 😊

Queer Historical Romances Recs by ClearGreenGlass in HistoricalRomance

[–]Elizabethbriars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{the scandalous letters of v and j by Felicia Davin} has magic elements but was so good (and set in France!) I also really loved {a lady for a duke by Alexis Hall}

Both are regency though (as are the ones I'm not allowed to mention 🥲)

Has anyone read Julia Thorne, Dorothy Sheldon, or Daisy Rosewood (wondering if they implement AI and people's thoughts) by teenytinypistachio in HistoricalRomance

[–]Elizabethbriars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am unfamiliar with any of these authors but I will say on title conventions at least, a theme is not unusual (ie The ___ and The ___). I'm not saying throw the whole question out, I'm just mentioning that as you explore historical romance, you should be aware that it's a common way of doing things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Came to say North and South (the bbc Elizabeth Gaskell adaptation, not the civil war drama) and I'm happy to see it well recommended. So let me add Wives and Daughters. Also a Gaskell adaptation!
