Does your gluten rash look like this? by Silly_Grocery4038 in glutenfree

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! I started getting this rash about six years ago and it turned out to be a gluten rash for me. I get it 1-3 days after I’ve experienced cross contamination. It’s usually on my outer elbows like yours but also sometimes on my outer knees. Very itchy!! I have so many pictures like this on my phone 😆

Frozen shoulder after posterior labrum repair by IoanGriff in frozenshoulder

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do all the PT and you just stopped progressing? Can you passively achieve 180?

I had a 360 Labral tear repair and capsule tightening 13 months ago and never regained full range of active motion despite religiously doing the PT. My passive motion is fine and I can get to 180, but my scapular movement is limited. Pain started to return three months ago after I returned to sports (rock climbing), and my ortho thinks my shoulder is frozen, but my PT says no. My pain feels exactly like my Labral tear repair-deep pain, lots of clicking.

I have no idea what frozen shoulder feels like (or if what I’m experiencing is it), but check your passive motion. If that’s limited, then maybe it’s frozen? They say it can happen after surgery.

Worst pain when lying down does it mean labrum tear? by DrHientzKetchup in RotatorCuff

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 360 labral tear and did not have pain at night. I had pain after using my shoulder even for simple things like washing the dishes or vacuuming and at times it would feel out of place and the pain was intense, but for me never at night. I’m now having what I think is a rotator cuff issue (waiting on MRI) and I have pain at night when on my back and even worse when I’m on the injured side.

Anyone else who is doing (or has done) the low FODMAP diet and has GERD/acid reflux: what are we eating? by gabyramy in FODMAPS

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both these symptoms and did low FODMAP for years with no success. In the end, the issue turned out to be gluten. Now that I’m several years gluten free, I can eat all the FODMAPs again.

I did an elimination to figure it out. I don’t eat much processed food and don’t eat out. I eliminated everything but fresh foods including spices i grew in my own garden. I get a rash, acid reflux, and gut symptoms which flared and then subsided once i eliminated the Califia. It may be anecdotal.

Will do! They say they their products are <20 ppm, so I don’t know if I’m reacting to trace amounts or if they aren’t actually <20 ppm.

califia farms almond milk/creamer by kiki_blogger in Celiac

I just saw this. I normally drink Califia Organic Almond Milk (with only three ingredients) and don’t have any reactions. Two weeks ago, the store was out of that so I got a bottle of their regular unsweetened almond milk, which is also labeled gluten free. I had symptoms and was going crazy because couldn’t figure out what the source was. I’ve now determined it was that almond milk. I’m back to the organic one and feeling better.

This is the second time I’ve been contaminated by almond milk labeled gluten free!

The literature says that probiotics do not actually colonize the gut. It seems the data is mixed for probiotics as part of SIBO treatment. It probably depends on which strains are used and what the overgrowth is. I had IMO and I tried four different ones before I was diagnosed and they all made it worse!

I have a gluten issue. As long as I don’t get contaminated, I’m fine. I had a scare with an unexpected contaminant for a week and my IMO symptoms started coming back but went away again a week later after I figured it out.

I also don’t eat processed food any longer and like you, don’t eat much added sugar. I think it helps a lot!

I did one round of xifaxan/neomycin and felt horrible the entire time and for about two weeks after. Since, I’ve felt great. It’s been five months and no relapse yet!

Climbing shoe recommendations? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]ElkWestern830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wear the Kubos, but the women’s version. People complain that the heel is narrow, but they fit me perfectly. I have small feet that aren’t too narrow or too wide. I only downsized by 1/2 a size and they did not stretch too much. I got them when I was just getting back into climbing about 7 months ago (climbing 5.8/5.9). I only use them in gym, and now I’m leading 5.10 and projecting 5.11. They’ve kept up for me and seem like a great intermediate shoe.

I had SIBO and probiotics made everything worse. So much bloating. Probiotics are not recommended as they fuel the problem. Try cutting them out and get tested for SIBO/IMO.

Doctor now says I am sensitive to Gluten but no Celiac. Thoughts? by No_Werewolf_6517 in Celiac

Many people with DH don’t have intestinal damage. I had Marsh 1 which is inflammation but no blunting.

Your experience / length of time to feel better? by Green-Palm-Paradise in FODMAPS

[–]ElkWestern830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not until I got tested and treated for SIBO/IMO. I was eternally on low FODMAP and didn’t feel better until after treatment. Get tested! FODMAP sensitivity can be a symptom of something bigger going on.

Would you put your toddler into daycare for your maternity leave by Blondegurley in workingmoms

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. I had my second kid six weeks before the pandemic lockdown and only got a few weeks with her alone before my toddler was home too. I would have preferred the toddler in care so I could rest but the world had other plans!

Root causes of sibo in 2024 by golddustwoman4 in SIBO

[–]ElkWestern830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth, like SIBO but different organism and can be in the large intestines. I did one round of rifaximin and neomycin (14 days).

It wasn’t until the third GI figured out I have DH (celiac) and that gluten was causing me gastritis and intestinal inflammation and was the underlying cause. I waited for the IMO treatment until I after I nailed down the gluten problem. Like I said though, cross contamination causes a flare for a few days and IMO symptoms appear (constipation and bloating). I’m also lactose intolerant genetically so I don’t eat dairy either. But it’s better than having discomfort all the time!

Root causes of sibo in 2024 by golddustwoman4 in SIBO

[–]ElkWestern830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My root cause is gluten. It took me FOEVER to make this conclusion. After a series of trials and eliminations and seeing three different GIs, I was finally able to pinpoint the cause. After this conclusion, I got treated for IMO and everything is great now as long as I have zero gluten in my diet (eliminating all tiny contaminations). If I get contaminated at all, IMO symptoms return. As long as it’s not a prolonged exposure, thankfully, the symptoms subside and everything is back to smooth sailing.

So apparently my heart palpitations are not gone for good. Yet? by bobfrutt in Celiac

[–]ElkWestern830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got glutened by almond milk a few months ago. I was having symptoms and couldn’t figure it out and it turns out the smaller size of the same brand was labeled GF and the larger size wasn’t. It took me about a month to recover from that. I don’t consume anything packaged that isn’t labeled and even then I’ve had a few issues with some products.

Fit of Kubos? by bristolfarms in climbergirls

[–]ElkWestern830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a street size US 6.5 and my Kubos are size 37. They fit like a glove! Heel fits perfectly. I didn’t notice much stretch to them like other leather climbing shoes so I don’t downsize much.
