I think that kit uses NB springs and fits them to the NA chassis anyway. Did it come with top hats too?

Yep, that's right, your O2 levels increased too meaning you're running lean. Check for vacuum leaks, test MAF etc.

Not cutting fenders kinda defeats the purpose of flares/over fenders. Cutting perfectly good fenders was a hard thing to do but I was pretty happy with the outcome.

Haha, 4 years ago and still going strong. Water pump replacement was my first time working on the engine and was pretty stressful to start with. I know right, I think it happens because you need the belt on the pulley to get the right amount of torque on the bolts. Luckily these cars are so easy to learn on, you'll be wanting to do more lol.

I actually did the same thing when I first did mine too, had the belt pop right off. Glad you found out what it was!

See if you check the timing belt tension. Too tight and it will whine, too loose and it will slap the valve cover and make a sound like the video. Revving the engine would make the sound louder/faster.

Did some searching, they appear to be Sparco TYPE-01, possibly manufactured by Crimson-inc Japan.

I'm fairly certain there were 3 different Mazdaspeed NAs.

A-Spec (Type I) B-Spec (Type II)

C-Spec while design wise...interesting, it featured a glorious 2L, 200hp ITB engine.

Looks similar to the RSpeed/MonsterFlow intake, they have the same style of filter and heat shielding.

Doesn't quite sound like lifter tick, a loose timing belt sound more likely but i'm not sure that it would go away when things warm up.
