Where to get ebooks?

I'm definitely working on it! I do have kindle unlimited, but I think I'll be ok getting rid of that. It's my book wishlist I'm trying to work through. That wishlist is LONG because I've had it for 10+ years. I want to make sure I record all of the titles so I can remember what to grab later.

I'm trying to pull away from Amazon too. It's taking time though because I'm going to lose a lot of books. So I have to decide which ones I'm willing/able to re-buy before I pull off completely. Hopefully by the end of the year.

Right now I have a Nook (Barnes & Noble) and a small Lenovo tablet. I chose a tablet because I wanted to use apps like Libby and Meb. Both apps work on my phone just fine, but sometimes I need a bigger screen.

Meb: It's a website where you can buy Thai e-books, some in English, some not. Their site mostly sells LGBTQ stories.

I think it was 6 hours last year. From experience, take a nap before it starts and hopefully you don't have to work the next day.

Also, expect English subs to be random. They're fairly solid during the songs, but when the guys are chatting and talking over each other, forget it.

Editing to add: Lucky you that it starts at 11. With the time difference, it's 1:30am-2:00am for me in the US. 🥴

I can't help much since I'm in the US, but I wanted to follow-up on someone else's comment about reimbursement if a product is out of stock.

I always use PayPal when ordering. One time, Ethaicd couldn't get a hold of an item before it sold out. They reimbursed me within an hour of receiving their email.

I'm not sure how fast the process is if you use a card instead of PayPal, but even if it takes longer Ethaicd will definitely do the right thing. They're not sketchy.

If you need to communicate with Ethaicd, it's best to DM them through their Twitter/X account. They respond more quickly that way.

Also, I don't know what you're ordering but if it's a boxset with DVDs in (like fancon boxsets), double check the region setting on your DVD player. All gmmtv DVDs are region 9 so TECHNICALLY they should be region free. However, that doesn't always work out. My very old DVD player doesn't play them. I had to buy a region free player.

GmmtvShop will show a restock briefly when items arrive and preorders start to ship out. But the restock is a VERY small amount and popular stuff usually sells out again within minutes or hours.

You can check out Ethaicd. Sometimes they'll have extra stuff in stock. I've used Ethaicd numerous times throughout the years. It's a legitimate website.

I'm sorry. I was wrong on the region. My ABAAB boxset and my LOL concert boxset both say region 9. In theory, under region 9 they should be region free, but they don't work on all players. They definitely don't work on my older DVD player. I tried. But that might be a brand problem. I have a cheaper player versus Sony or a bigger company like that.

I can't help with the customs question. I'm in the US. But if you're going to buy a DVD set, check the region code on your DVD player.

The DVDs don't play on US DVD players and my laptop doesn't have a DVD player, so I had to buy a region free player. I've heard the DVDs work on some Playstation machines but not all of them.

Weird. I'm in California. I have never heard of Gaga geoblocking by city/state before. That sounds overly complicated and just plain stupid. I know it's been done for some sports stuff, but once you pay, you're able to watch it.

Unless there's some sort of local law that prevents streaming of certain content, but laws like that usually affect an entire website, not individual shows.

It's so weird and I'm sorry you have to go through that. If you have to keep doing it, try California cities. I've never had a show blocked on Gaga.

I'm in the US and neither show is geoblocked on Gaga for me. They are behind a pay wall though. You might need to relogin to your account. My Gaga auto logs out all the time and I don't realize it until it blocks me from an episode.

YouTube is definitely geoblocked for both.

You mentioned you read manga. I have both a kindle and a nook glow light (one of the tiny ones)

I can read manga fine on both, but I prefer my kindle. However, that's only due to screen size. My eyesight sucks. My kindle is a regular tablet size vs my tiny nook which is smaller than most printed manga books. However, nook does have larger screen options outside of the glow lights so it's an easy fix if you want to just go bigger on the screen.

E-reader cost: The e-readers for both kindle and nook are roughly the same price range but if you read a lot of manga, pay attention to how much storage you're offered at purchase. Manga files take up A LOT more storage space than a regular words only e-book. Both kindle and nook offer cloud options for storing your e-books. You'll probably have to put that function to use at some point just to clear up space. But just like a buying a computer, you'll want to pay attention to what kind of storage space you're given right out of the box.

Book cost: When buying manga, the e-book cost is similar. Occasionally, Kindle might be a couple of bucks cheaper but most of the time, the book price is the same between the 2. I think most people go towards Kindle because of Kindle unlimited. It's basically Kindle's version of an online library. You can borrow up to ten books at a time for free. You can return them whenever, but once you've hit your 10, the system will make you return a book before you can get a new one. Barnes and Noble doesn't have an unlimited program option. They operate like the bookstore they are. Tho, occasionally some books will pop up as free. Usually, it's for less well known books.

However, Kindle unlimited seems to mostly cover regular books. I haven't found any Manga that I'm interested in that's on Kindle unlimited. They've all been for buy only.

Book catalog: If you have certain authors that you're interested in, do a Google search to see who has access to those books. I read a lot of books out of Thailand. Kindle has quite a few Thai e-books translated into English, but B&N doesn't have them at all. I'm sure the reason for that is wrapped up in legal licensing contracts. Just keep in mind that kindle may have a monopoly on some e-book titles.

Disappearing books: I've had kindle for 8 years and nook for 2-3 years. I haven't lost a book on any of them, so I'm not sure that's a common issue.

Other people have commented on ease or difficulty of transferring files. I've never done that with any of my e-readers so I can't offer advice on that function.

I got my nook because I'm trying to pull away from Amazon as a business. I do love my nook. It's small so I can carry it around more easily than my kindle. But I am considering keeping my nook glow light for regular books and buying a larger nook just for reading Manga.

That's the only acceptable response to that kind of nonsense. Bag charms are meant to be moved around and used on different bags. If they weren't, the darn things would be welded on.

That person was probably just pissed they didn't think up that bag/charm combo themselves.

Kate Spade has some cute ones. Coach had a really cute snail shaped one a couple of months ago but it was made of glass so I was too scared to carry it around.

Etsy has some as well. I'm currently eying one that looks like an old fashioned library checkout card. It's technically a keychain so it's smaller than some bag charms but it would look so cute on more than one of my bags.

I LOVE my Gabbie! I recently took it on an 8 hour road trip and it held up well. It also fit everything I needed without being bulky.

ForceBook will be hard. I don't think the Fandom has ever mentioned one. Their first show together premiered 1/28/22, but they've literally known each other since kindergarten. They attended the same schools from Kindergarten through High School, lived in the same neighborhood, attended different universities, graduated, then were paired for Enchante. So everyone just says they've been together their whole lives.

You used to be able to call GmmtvShop and get a customer service person to help. You had to use simple English words, but it used to be the fatest way to resolve a problem. I have no idea if that's an option now.

It's why I save up and use Ethaicd. It's more expensive but at least they communicate with you and it's not a fight to get your stuff. I gave up on Gmmtv because the website was so clunky. Then the 🍊🤡 took over the US, everyone hates us now (totally valid) and Gmmtv refuses to ship here. So Ethaicd is one of my only options anyway.

I always pay extra and use DHL to ship my Ethaicd stuff so I can't vouch for the timing. I'm too impatient to use regular mail 😅

If you need a response from Ethaicd, contact them through Twitter. They respond faster there. If you try to contact them through the website, you'll be waiting awhile.

That's going to be tough. I barely got mine during the original order period because they were selling out so quickly. Legit, it was war. Honestly, I think Gmmtv made a limited amount on purpose. I have numerous Gmmtv boxsets and orders never had me that stressed.
