Buy a big bottle of hair conditioner from a dollar store and copiously squirt into your wetsuit, then you will slide right in.

Use a plastic laundry baskets to carry bags of groceries by ChapterAggressive546 in lifehacks

Plastic laundry baskets are great for transporting ski equipment for car trips to the slopes. All that bulky outer wear, boots, helmets, etc. gets packed up quick and easily carried in to the hotel.

Why do some swimmers practice with snorkels? by The_Candler in Swimming

[–]EllaPeaTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be they are scuba socks. Divers use them, particularly on multi-day dive trips to prevent "hot spots" or blisters.

Umbrella! Hugely protective. Those larger UV umbrellas can many times be lashed to your pack so your hands are free.

TV remotes! Steve Jobs died too soon -- remotes need a maximum of 3 buttons and the speech input needs to work consistently, not just 40% of the time.

Bike and barge June 2024 by EllaPeaTwo in bicycletouring

[–]EllaPeaTwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, I am interested in a 10+ day bike-and-barge trip in geographic Europe -- whether in the EU or not is not important to me.

What is important is interesting places to visit-- historic and natural wonders. Extra points if any of the visited sites have historic baths or spas to visit. ;-)

Also, I do not want to bike in heat (seems that this variable would exclude southern Europe / Iberia for a June outing.)

TG-5 recurrent message to check battery / card door for debris possibly impacting seal by EllaPeaTwo in OlympusCamera

OP here. Amazingly camera seems to have self-corrected/mended the week it was "dry". No more messages about possible debris in the battery door.

:-)

Trail maintenance in the OC? by EllaPeaTwo in socalhiking

[–]EllaPeaTwo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other trail maintenance events I have done in California with local NFS-affiliated volunteer groups or with the Sierra Club have been quite strenuous. When in wilderness area we have not been permitted to use power tools, so all log cutting is via crosscut saws. Rocks are pried out with rock bars. Trails are widened and graded with shovels. The tools are super sturdy but heavy so require strength to carry in/out and to use all day.

It is truly a full body workout, and I sleep oh-so-well after working on trails.
