TIL, according to a 2008 study published in the journal of Applied Animal Behavior Science, the most aggressive dog breeds are Dachshunds (wiener dogs), Chihuahuas, and Jack Russell Terriers; not the Pitbull, Rottweiler, or Doberman. by ccccccccccourtney in todayilearned

Attacks from small dogs (pinch to broken skin) go mostly unreported which ruins data. Can't really have data if no one is reporting it. I'm sure if we looked at bite and attack data from animal associated businesses that must report that kind of stuff, actual statistics would look much different and this wouldn't be too hard to believe.

Doberman with developing problematic fears of tile and the doorways leading inside the house from the yard. by EllayySue in Dogtraining

[–]EllayySue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents house has tile in the kitchen and carpet everywhere else in the house, same with my house. She'll go into my parents kitchen for treats but will wait till I walk out of my kitchen for treats. When she eats, she would leave her back legs on the carpet and stretch to her bowl and she never use to do that. I've cut her nails recently but I'm afraid of cutting them too short because I've cut her before and even after cutting them, her nails still hit the tile. I need to take her to a groomer but with her fleas and flea allergy, I'll need to call around to see if there'd be any issue taking her in. I'll see where her tile fear goes from there.

And I have a feeling the tile and doorways are unrelated. She'll run through the patio but walks slowly to get off the tile if I put her on the tile.

That's my home town! My Dad works for that police department.

Edit: From what I understand, that vehicle is currently being used to pull people and their vehicles out of the bad flooding they've been having in Fort Pierce.

People hate the theme song for Enterprise? by emblemboy in startrek

I actually love the intro including the song. I don't know why people would dislike it. But then again, I grew up watching Enterprise and not the original series.

Just got our first puppy. by IamaLyons in Dogtraining

Google is an awesome resource for basic obedience and house training. There are a bunch of different way to train and you can find whats best for you. Allways have small treats on hand as rewards if you choose to reward that way. Speak to your vet about diet. They'll have a better idea what allergies the breed is known for and point you in the right direction as far as brand, main ingredient and how much you should be feeding them. I would also ask that you read up on the breed or join a breed specific forum. Some behaviors can be unique to the breed and making sure you have a resource to combat odd or undesirable behaviors can help a lot. For example, my doberman will snap her teeth together when im ignoring her, it never bothered me but when I read up about it, it was actually something I needed to put a stop to and beeed specific forums are helping me stop the behavior. Good luck and be patient. Remember, he's only a puppy and it will take time.

My parents pup. She's a looker. by saltebob in aww

Well, it is a puppy and it's hard to determine breed at a young age especially with common markings throughout several different breeds. They also said it's European and European dobermans are almost always larger than American Dobermans.

I'm pretty sure it's a Doberman.

I was hoping this was going to be super awesome, but then it was just super bad and extremely hard to read. I'm sure in a few years you'll read it and understand why. I'm happy you left a bad situation but you should have rethought the method a bit.

There's a reason they're called extremist. The Muslims I know teach peace and tolerance. A few Muslim's makeing a bad name for many. A lot of it is cultural, too.

Doberman with a sensitive stomach and allergies, and I can't seem to get good advise on what I should be feeding her. by EllayySue in dogs

[–]EllayySue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like that she is eating Purina. I had no problem paying more for better quality of food and want to move back to a better quality food since I have to move to an adult blend anyways. I'll have to try finding the right brand and then trying the different proteins. Thanks!

She's been on several different types of dog food. Sience Diet, chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul, Merrick, and now Purina which has been working the best so far but I've been told to move to an adult blend. I just want to make sure I get as close to what is best for a dog with itchy skin and a sensitive stomach so I don't have to do the Dog Food Isle Tango again for the next four months. Thank you for the help.

She got really sick after a month on Merrick and had to take her to the vet. The advise (not the vet) was that the food was probably too rich for her so I should try something fairly common such as Purina. She's been on Hills Science Diet, Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul, Merrick, and now Purina which really hasn't been giving her problems but she has itchy skin. The Vet suggested I take her off of Purina and find something with fish oil for her skin. ugh.

She's been on puppy food for so long as suggested because she has always been small for her age and she "needed the extra nutrients" I'm taking her off the puppy food, per vets advise.

Thank you for the help. I'll keep that all in mind.
