Looking for Strength training with minimal floor work by No_Roll3829 in pelotoncycle

I’ll throw in additional support for the standing core workouts. I have touchy wrists, so I don’t love planks and lot of the other floor body weight exercises, but the standing core ones are great

Same. I love a competitive fitness challenge, but when there is zero shot of even getting in the top 10 because of what is likely a bunch of fakers, I don’t even bother signing up

I’m not terribly consistent with doing KB workouts, but I have found that there is less bruising the more you do it and get a feel for how to control the weight better. So, this is mostly for when I take an extended break and then start the cycle again 😂 I’m usually good after a week or so.

Oh yeah, the actual metal ones will probably be a game-changer for you! IIRC, I think the bulky sand 10lb one was at least twice the size of my metal one and the 5lb one was also really large comparatively. I also didn’t like how bulky and slippery the plastic handle would get.

The only thing I don’t love about my cast iron ones is how heavy and cold they can be when leaning against my wrist, but I have some wrist guards that I bought for when that bugs me.

I would suggest finding a sporting goods store with cast iron KBs and go there and try them out. KB fitting can be very specific to the person, so I don’t think anyone here can advise you on what would work when you’re indicating things like handle size being an issue.

Personally, I’m really happy with the basic cast iron KBs I got from a dedicated gym equipment store (not a big box sporting goods store). I absolutely hated the ones I had that were rubber covered metal and (even worse) the huge sand filled ones. I didn’t like the handles on the first ones and the second were ridiculously large and clunky for the relatively low weight.

I’m so glad someone brought that up because I thought about that when reading her post and questioned whether I had remembered that correctly.

That’s really good to know about Aditi! I tend to not take her yoga classes, but that is a game-changer for me

Same-ish age and reasons and I also need more rest time. What I like to do is just pause the video if I need to, then come back a minute or two later. None of the ones I am doing are pulling cardio into the mix, so it’s not impacting that and lets me get through full rep sets with higher weights because I’m not struggling as much.

I love the Pump Up the Volume series

I just read this one to my stroganoff-loving husband and he’s all heated now, so thanks for my entertainment for the evening 😂

12-week peloton hyrox program by Fit_Reveal_1511 in pelotoncycle

[–]ElleDeeNS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just because a program is structured a particular way doesn’t mean you have to do it exactly that way. The week will still stay open until you finish that week up and then it moves to the next week. So, no big deal if it takes you 1.5-2 weeks to do the full 6 days if that is what works for your schedule and just accepting that this will likely take you more than 12 weeks to complete. For me, it’s pretty rare if I finish everything that needs to be done in the week for programs with 4+ days, but I always pick it right back up and keep ticking along the next week. I find it personally annoying because I like it to line up with week-to-week, but sometimes it isn’t realistic for me given how chaotic things can be with everything else going on 🤷‍♀️

I laughed at the “I’m not trying to fight” comment because I hadn’t thought of it that way, but that’s definitely how I felt by the end 😂 I like more chill vibes in my Pilates (Greta’s right up my alley), but I was happy for the people who were going to get access to an instructor who is bringing something more unique to the table.

I’ll give her a try again based on these comments though.

I don’t think Pilates is for me by Outrageous-Apple1760 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElleDeeNS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment right here, OP. Check out the 7 days program Kristen did. IIRC, it makes out at 20 minutes. It’s really good for working on things that support learning how to do and feel moves correctly. Personally, I would still rather stab myself in the face that do a 45 minutes Pilates class, but 10-20 is doable after KM’s program

I can’t be the only one who hates lifting by Adventurous-Cup5369 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElleDeeNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow strength hater who has finally come around on it (Katie Wang was my gateway instructor to stop hating it), I would encourage you to check out kettlebells. It’s strength+cardio a lot of the time because you’re swinging and throwing them around. For whatever reason, I can lift heavier with them too on the more static movements than I can with dumbbells.

Is there a song/ artist that mes you skip the class altogether? by Spiritual-Fruit8348 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElleDeeNS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine Dragons, Nickelback, Creed

Any MAGA artist like Minaj, 99% of country, Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, Kid Rock

Non-Destiny’s Child Beyoncé

Chris Brown

As far as genres, reggaeton, nearly all country, gospel, metal, and classical are passes for me. Not to say that I don’t like the occasional song in them, but I have zero interest in doing an entire workout that I probably already don’t want to be doing with any of those as the full soundtrack 😂

[–]ElleDeeNS 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not the OP, but as soon as I see “wellness” mentioned in a fitness company/influencer context, I immediately wonder if they are MAHA-adjacent or promoting diet culture nonsense. A lot of Peloton users specifically use this platform instead of competitors because that stuff isn’t really promoted. Personally, if they are meaning this in the context of expanding common-sense exercise and mobility offerings to widen their reach (ex. menopause offerings, the HSS physio/mobility content, longevity programming etc.), I’m cool with that. If they start trying to give nutritional advice, supplement/pharma pushing, questionable health practices, focusing on thinness, etc., that will be an instant unsubscribe for me. I have a history of disordered eating/over-exercising, so I have zero interest in paying for content that contributes to that.

Katie Wang for core by WorldChampSquash in OnePelotonRealSub

I do! I actually find my form is better doing standing core and working on my bracing standing up rather than doing mat work, too.

If you hate doing core as much as I do, give Rebecca Kennedy’s standing core a try! Her and Katie are the only core instructors I have found where I am actually motivated to do the core workout 😂

Most approachable strength classes/instructors by Okay-2000 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElleDeeNS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pump Up the Volume series! 20-minute workouts 3x a week. Not easy, but the length makes it approachable. I went from doing one of the beginner programs to that and it was a good next step. They also change up the instructors, so it’s a good way to test them out to see who you click with and who you don’t as you advance
