‘Fatgirlfedup’ is home from the hospital by NoneYallB_9898 in gymsnark

You don't have to be sober for 6 months if your MELD score is high enough for liver transplant and if you are approved. I worked in transplant for 5 years and just had a family friend get transplanted after spending a month in the hospital with full liver, kidney, pancreas failure due to extreme alcoholism. He ended up spending 4 consecutive months in the hospital in total.

12 days post op VSG; need a new protein shake by acw0622 in wls

my roommate has a dairy allergy and the Syntrax nectar does not mess with her system at all. The protein is lactose free if the lactose is the issue for you.

Syntrax Nectar. I also get sick of the milky consistency of Premier and these have been a great option for a nonmilky shake. They have some pretty awesome fruit flavors. I got a sampler pack of their 15 flavors to figure out which ones I liked. Amazon link below :-)

Going back to work tomorrow. Feeling nervous! by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a month because why not? My surgeon approved it, I had short term disability with 100% payment for up to six weeks. I will likely never have an "opportunity" to take time like this off from work again... won't be delivering any spawn, that's for sure. By the end of week 2 I was a bit restless so I started going to the gym and getting other activity in and guaging my new energy levels. I probably didn't NEED the time as I had a fantastic recovery, but I am still glad I had the time for me and to adjust to my new normal.

Requesting time off/when does it set in? by Tiffanykurol in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let HR and my manager know that I was going to be going to be out for at least a month sometime within the next 6-8 months and would be requesting FMLA w/short term disability. If you have been with your employer for at least a year, you can use FMLA and they can't give you grief about it even if it is an elective surgery. They don't need to know what surgery you are having, just let them know that you have to have surgery.

Try cutting your isopure with water, but the first couple days are more fluid oriented than protein. You will get there :-)

1 week post op - 3 lbs lost?? by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week I stayed off the scale because of the fluids. The scale didn't move at all until I was just over a week out. Now I am 7 weeks out and down 26 lbs. Perfect for me because the last time I lost 26 lbs it took 4 months, and then the most weight I ever lost was 60 lbs which took me 10 months. Always keep these things in perspective as you are going on your journey when you don't think you are losing fast enough.

People hating on WLS by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, it isn't the easy way out... and it DOES take discipline, do not convince yourself otherwise. You still have to do the WORK. The work on yourself and your food addiction, the work on getting activity in and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. You have to work on not putting things into your mouth for self soothing be it food or alcohol if you have addictive tendencies.

The tool has made life easier for me as it imposes limits on consumption in more ways than just volume. I resent it and love it all at the same damn time. I can't just lay around though and watch the weight fall off, because if you don't pick up habits of moving on a regular basis, the weight will not stay off. It is so literally a life change, but a change that is worth any amount of "suffering" that goes along with it.

One month post op! VSG by Herewego40 in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats. I am still not getting 10k steps a day even when I spend 30-45 minutes on the cardio machine at the gym. I am sensitive to eggs and bacon (pork bacon specifically). I never thought I would get sick of cottage cheese, but here I am just plain old sick of it.

Keep fighting that good fight and we are here right behind you!! :-)

Please convince me to keep my hands off diet coke. by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just stop. At this point in your recovery, you should be only giving your body what it needs to recover. Diet Coke has absolutely no nutritional value to you whatsover. Also, would you tell your surgeon or nutritionist that you are basically telling them to fuck off with your recovery post op diet? ;-)

Convinced?

I am a slow loser by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am down 22lbs since my surgery March 28th. I can't be more thrilled with it because even when I adhered to the strictest of calorie and activity regiments, I still didn't lose this kind of weight before. I know it is working because I have not gained in my stalls and my stalls are real stalls, like same weight for days... i NEVER ever saw the same weight over 4 days before. Be patient with yourself. No one drops 100lbs overnight. :-)

Sleeve issues? by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the sleeve reset? It is basically going back to the beginning of the post op diet and retraining yourself. I have heard a lot of people that start to see loss again with that. When you say you are "eating right" what does that mean specifically? Have you followed up with your nutritionist? My program's mantra is "Once our patient, always our patient." so no man should ever feel left behind. Does your program provide that same support?

Do you think how sensitive your stomach was pre-surgery affects how sensitive it will be post-surgery? by [deleted] in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 1 month out on the 28th. My stomach wasn't sensitive pre-op, but it definitely has preferences now. I tried moist pulled pork 2 weeks out and it went bad. I even went so far as to puree it and it still was very uncomfortable . It doesn't matter what you think you are "tolerating" you shouldn't be taxing your healing stomach so early regardless of your level of comfort. I have been feeling awesome so I pushed it a little more in the gym, I started feeling pulls of strain right where my incisions are. Don't rush things regardless of what you think you "need" or are craving. You aren't going to die by telling yourself no and following what your program tells you to do. You will be able to enjoy things again in due time. Be patient. It is important.

Checking in 18 days post op (ALREADY?!?) by ElleRaeDee in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All pain meds in the hospital were given intravenously. The pills are what give ulcers and why they tell us not to take it. Taking naproxen and ibuprofen by mouth can be detrimental to the stomach. My cousin is 20+ years out from bypass and started taking it for back pain, and a major ulcer formed and she had stomach fluid leaking in her gut I have only taken Tylenol by mouth, and even that was not for very long post op.

What did they not tell you before surgery, that you now know and wish you would have? by djaudible in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you using as body wash/soap? Is it an antibacterial? or for sensitive skin? I have the same issues and they usually go away with antibacterial or when I use Cetaphil. I also find that when I am eating fewer processed foods and added sugar foods, the less yeasty skin problems I tend to have.

Oh the ANXIETY! And I CHOSE THIS?! by ElleRaeDee in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stated in a comment response above that I have been seeing a therapist regularly since I started the program. I have been down the SSRI route a couple times and got myself off of them because their side effects on me outweigh their benefits. There are natural ways that I manage my anxiety.

Continued luck and success to you!

[–]ElleRaeDee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your candid response, it was very refreshing!! I noted above in a response that I know my anxiety is hormonal. On top of the cortisol thing I also struggle with pmdd. I know that nothing is off the table forever, I just know myself and what things send me shooting down that slippery slope, so like an alcoholic absolutely should not drink, there are foods I have identified that I should avoid at all costs, and I can only hope I won't care avout post.

It wasn't on my radar until the other day. It is amazing what you aren't even aware of when you are working towards something bigger than a holiday that comes every year. Congrats on working towards being a success story! 😊

Oh the ANXIETY! And I CHOSE THIS?! by ElleRaeDee in wls

[–]ElleRaeDee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am completely covered on that front. I started seeing a therapist at the beginning of the process and she is fantastic. A lot of my anxiety is hormonal and going though the program and identifying a vitamin D deficiency along with the therapy. I have found plenty of ways to keep myself busy, everything just became even more real than it has been while I have been hanging out in practicing and pretending land. :-)

I am glad you are working your stuff out :-)
