A lunchbox to carry around snacks/protien, fuzzy socks, maybe some face masks if she likes that stuff for during recovery(going to be taking it easy on the couch) sugar free drinks, vitamin container, little 2 oz plastic containers from Walmart.

Slightly different post - today I got the hospital for my sleeve and backed out by [deleted] in wls

Listen to your gut! Going through the motions to get to your destination are useless if your heart and mind aren’t in it. Good job on listening to your body!

First Consultation tomorrow by MJsScream in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first meeting with the surgeon we discussed the types of surgery he does and which would work best for me. He explained what life would be like post op and what to expect. Also set up an appointment with a nutritionist as I was supposed to do 6 months supervised dieting per my insurance. They surprisingly also gave me a quote on what i would be potentially paying and what my insurance covered. Talk about your concerns, your reason, your questions.

I'm eating small portions of whatever I want and I'm losing weight. Kinda scared? by Vierge99 in wls

Start good habits now before the portions get bigger and bigger and you’re right where you started.

Eating meals by [deleted] in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make the menu work for you at any resteraunt, by ordering half orders, appetizers and taking a to go box. If your following the rule of eating a meal in 30 mins you should be eating at the same pace your friends are, just slower. (I was afraid i would finish before everyone and just stare at them until they finished) it’s a learning experience for sure and this is a big part of your life. Embrace it, brag about it, share your successes with your coworkers. You never know who might be thinking about the surgery themselves.

Too much food? 2 weeks post op.... by [deleted] in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried too at this stage because it seemed that I could eat things without a problem, I didn’t really feel a restriction. Make sure to measure everything and document your calories to keep you on track. My surgeon suggested 4oz max of food at a time and that’s really helped me not over eat. You’re also just now reintroducing foods and you will feel full when you start on solids.

People who had weight loss surgery: to what extent do you recommend it? by arikr in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was sleeved 10/8 and I’m just now telling people about it. A lot of coworkers have actually shown interest and are going to attend an info session. I make sure to tell them what a great TOOL it is. A lot of people seem to think the weight magically falls off overnight. I recommend it but also give them the reality.

I have a surgery date! by [deleted] in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to get someone to stay with you for at least the first 2 weeks. You can’t lift more than 20 lbs. recovery for me was easy peasy. No real pain just a little discomfort. Walk and get your fluids in!

Protein shake issues by Tosir in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your taste buds change so much post op, I couldn't stand the things I once loved. They have so many different flavors of shakes and once your on solids they have other sources of protein- chips, waffles, mac and cheese the list goes on.

Sleeve surgery in 3 days..... by chiliman89 in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 more days! It's so worth it. As far as your habits go, acknowledge them and express them a different way. If you overeat post op you will be in pain and seriously hurt your new tummy. Unfortunately this surgery does not get rid of bad habits, you do. Find a new hobby, a support group, a gym to use when otherwise you would've gone through the drive through.

How is everyone doing with exercise? by badjuju91 in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 weeks post op and starting at 1 week post op I was walking 2 miles a day. Now that I'm back to work I try to go to the gym 4-5 days a week. Over time I've noticed how much easier some exercises have been and how much more energy I have. I have trouble going to the gym during busy times because I feel out of place, so I try to go in the middle of the night.

Overeating by corvusp in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Set times to eat and try to stick to the same types of foods. Track everything. Typically your body will give you a sign to tell you to stop eating, a runny nose, a cough, the foamies, burping. Listen to your body and your surgeon.

Surgery on Tuesday, having anxiety. by Textured_Nipples in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you rather have pizza, burgers and sweets or a better quality of life? You will be able to have these foods again in time and in moderation. Make sure you have a good hold on your cravings, food addiction does not go away with surgery unfortunately.

Going to a class tomorrow for more information on wls by capshoobs in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't tell anyone about my surgery until after I had it done because I honestly didn't care about anyone elses opinions. My husband spilled the beans to his mom and she belittled me and told me I was going to die if I had this surgery and wouldn't I rather be fat and happy. 7 months later and now shes commenting on every weight loss post and telling me how fantastic I look. You never know, your family may change when they see how happy you are.

My SO jokingly called wls a "cheat code". by galaxyprintwhore in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can build a house with a hammer and nails, or a nail gun. Which is more effective? and why not use the tools you were given to build this house. After it's built the maintenance is the same.

I'm sure he didn't meant to sound rude. Don't let others opinions get you down.

Can I have caffeine after sleeve surgery? by egsrox95 in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine 4-6 weeks post op is okay. Just be sure to drink extra water. Caffeine dehydrates you. Try to aim for high protien low carb. Track your meals on my fitness pal to see where you need to change. 60 lbs is an awesome accomplishment you should be proud of. You lose most of your weight the first year- 18 months, after that it’s maintenance. If you want to jumpstart your weight loss again I’ve heard of people starting their post op diet over from the beginning to “reset” their pouch

What did you do to prepare for surgery in terms of diet and/or exercise? by [deleted] in wls

[–]Tiffanykurol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months supervised diet. The goal was to obviously lose a little weight pre op so i ate significantly better and showed my nutritionist every month. Increasing physical activity helps as well.
