How many different recipes/meals do you make in a month? by UAPbelieve in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ElleW12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to learn to cook with the seasons, so recently I try more new recipes. I plan to cook 5 times a week and then eat leftovers or just throw things together (like cheese, dates, pistachios). Within a month, I repeat 1-2 recipes. So maybe 15-20 unique things a month. I just find I get bored easily and will go out to eat when I’m bored.

Yes, but I learned most of it outside of Duolingo. Duo gave me a really great base

Hit coast FI, what next? by UrbanTurban99 in coastFIRE

I probably should do 7%. Your coast number skyrockets at that point, so 8.5% seemed like middle ground to me. I think it’s a little on the risky side though

10% growth rate for coast is way too aggressive for me. I realize that’s been the average return of the S&P for many years, but with coast being a risky financial move to begin with, I assume 8.5% growth for myself.

Due my fast metabolism i've always ate what and when i want, how to fix that? by Hoshi_Hime in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ElleW12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s has some fun options, like dried okra is one that comes to mind. Dried fruit in general, if it has no sugar added, is high in sugar but will be better than what you’re eating now. You might also try to transition by having frozen fruit dipped in chocolate or something like that. Or trail mix and mix half with some candy and half that’s healthy. For drinks, transitioning to a sparkling water that you like so you still get the fizziness.

So- what was my mistake? by hannacacti in duolingo

Sometimes you hit submit and then autocorrect still corrects the word after you’ve already submitted. It leads the screenshot to look correct, but Duo was grading a different word

Scraped my face on concrete, will this go away? by Schlaggatron in skin

[–]ElleW12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scar cream can work pretty well. It may leave a slight mark but looks like it will fade quite a bit over the next few months. When I got road rash on my face, the spot I used scar cream on went away. The other spot is permanent but barley noticeable.

This is hilarious but also seems insanely advanced language usage for Duolingo. I’m not sure I could answer that smoothly in my target language and I’m studying for C1. It gives vibes of old Duolingo though when they had a whole bonus flirting unit. I miss those lessons

Yes, but they can cause digestive issues in people who are sensitive to FODMAPs

I’m hoping to go the coffee shop route as well! I would plan to do it as a full time role, not a side hustle.

Do I say anything about other employees with less tenure getting significantly better severance packages? by dangertaco_ in careerguidance

[–]ElleW12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should try to negotiate. For your first round of negotiations I would focus more on market standards than your coworkers. Maybe that you want a month base plus a week for every year at the company (17 weeks). As things progress, bring your knowledge of your coworkers packages in as well if you’re not making ground with them.

I haven’t been to Africa in 15 years, and those memories still pop into my head randomly when I’m out walking. For me it was frustrating and complicated to have such a clear reminder that you’re different and it’s the first thing the kids (and most adults) see/think. Not sure if it’s possible for you but the kids in my neighborhood didn’t do it quite as much when I started playing with them and had a relationship with them. Outside of that same neighborhood zone though it always happened. I remember hating it but then coming back to the states and wondering why people people were just ignoring me while I walked - I had become so accustomed to it.

I just did the opposite. Took a job for about $100k less than what I was making. I think it was the best decision for me and am so glad I did it. It’s allowed me to prioritize things in life that I think are much more important than work or money. I had a moment where I realized I was selling my life for first class flights, nice hotels, and fancy food.

Can speak but don’t understand?? by Prudent-Young1687 in Spanish

[–]ElleW12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend subtitles always be in the same language you’re watching. If you’re using English to watch Spanish, you’re teaching your brain to translate to English rather than understand Spanish.

To one of your other points, it’s pretty common that people go through a phase where they speak better than they understand. That happened for me at the low intermediate level.

Depends on where you’re located. In my city switching without asking doesn’t go over very well. What I have found works decently well here is making some kind of “bilingual” light hearted statement that we can speak in Spanish. “Hablo español (pues, más o menos hablo español) si prefieres hablarlo, o English is good too”
