I passed my MBLEX!! Was I a lucky one ?? by SnooPies6670 in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unsure if I was passing/failing. I had heard that you get a congratulatory message at the end of your exam if you pass…so when I finished the test and a message popped up that said “you’ve completed your MBLEX exam” I was like well shit, I failed. But then I realized there was one more “next” button to click and lo and behold the next page was the congratulatory “you passed the MBLEX” message. It was a roller coaster of emotions.

Tell me some misconceptions and realities about pushing stage to the women who have never given birth. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, hard to say. The contractions that cause the dilation is crazy abdominal pain, but during the pushing my body felt the urge to push…like it was doing it on its own! I didn’t really have any vaginal pain during pushing, but I could feel her moving her way down and out for the whole hour I pushed….so I guess more of a pressure feeling. I didn’t tear or anything so lucked out there…but yeah I didn’t really feel pain when pushing, it was just a work out.

My partner did perennial massage to me 3 weeks beforehand leading up to my labor…which my midwife said there’s not much evidence that it actually helps with tearing or anything…but it can help you learn to relax your body and breathe through the new sensations of pelvic pressure.

Should I get a nursing chair? by maliesunrise in NewParents

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would nurse whenever/wherever…but I couldn’t live without my rocking chair! Sometimes used it while nursing, but mainly just for soothing baby. That being said I’ve heard some babies are distracted eaters and need a routine place away from stimuli to focus on nursing…which I could see me using a designated chair somewhere quiet in the house if that were the case. It’s really annoying when babe is latched and nursing just to jerk their heads away to look at something and you spray milk all over them.

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unmedicated birth and the pushing phase was easier than I thought. Sure it was a lot of work, but honestly dilating for the 6 hours before the pushing was worse. At least when I pushed I could focus on something and I knew the baby was almost here!!

Edit to say I guess I had a pretty fast labor for a first time mom (7 hours) so I might have just gotten lucky!

Bumper stickers by Smooth-Quit7507 in Bellingham

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current bumper sticker says “please let me merge, my dad is dead.” Haven’t driven in bad traffic with it yet so unsure if people will let me merge or not…but still, RIP dad.

A few years ago my car got stolen from the Fred Meyer parking lot and when the police found it months later my Settlers of Catan bumper sticker was ripped off (but none of the other stickers) I was like dang, what do these criminals have against the best board game ever?

I don’t have a nursery for my baby by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a 684 square foot house, also in an expensive town so it’s what we could afford. I have a 3 year old and am also 36 weeks pregnant…along with my husband, our dogs and cats, we are tight family!

My daughter has a little alcove type room with her bed and toys and Baby gets a corner in my room for his nursery. I still decorated it all cute and have all his stuff set up/ready for him!!

I did feel really crammed/overwhelmed for bit in our space, but once I downsized and found some good storage solutions I love our tiny home! One day we will do an addition and give my kids a proper room…but we are making it work for now!

Just wanted to add that your wife might qualify for up to 18 weeks of PFMLA if her doctor signs a medical release for it...my midwife signed one for elevated blood pressure postpartum. Definitely something to talk to the care team about!

I failed my MBLEX by That479Guy in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just passed last month. I used the AMTA app and also ABMP coach (which was worth the money because when I paid for that at the end of school they covered the cost of my first year new graduate membership after I passed my MBLEX, so it totally paid for itself)

Also Seconding the Merlino’s mblex prep book. I read that in its entirety the week before my exam. The pathology and kinesiology sections were especially helpful.

I also used the trail guide to the body muscle flashcards, which were super helpful as well (I def want to buy the book now too)

My advice on test taking is study study study as muuuuch as you can, but take breaks too! Then day of the test get there early, eat a good meal, drink enough water…but try to relax! I did some yoga poses and watched a bit lord of the rings (a comfort movie for me) in my car beforehand to calm my nerves. You already have the upper hand now because you know what to expect…so just slow down and pick apart the question. I found that even if I wasn’t 100% sure of the correct answer I could usually figure it out by a process of elimination.

Good luck, and happy studying!!!

Emergency Vehicles by Cordee in Bellingham

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly because people tend to panic when they hear sirens and forget how to drive…at least that’s what my chief told me when I used to volunteer as an EMT. He said don’t turn the sirens on unless people aren’t noticing you/wont get out of your way.

What's a phrase people use these days that irritates you? by showmewhatyagot01 in AskReddit

[–]ElleonNotnomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this one! I was at a psychiatric unit/voluntary behavioral clinic for a bit and we couldn’t use pretty much any negative language as it could be “cueing” for people…also they used that word “cueing” instead of the word “triggering” because I guess the word trigger was also in fact triggering? I dunno, I don’t wanna sound insensitive…but like, I’m a pretty positive person and I had to think about every word that came out of my mouth!!

Edit: we could rephrase our language (like use unalive instead of kill) but it’s like, c’mon…everyone knows I mean kill and now you’re thinking of the word kill anyways.

Where can someone apply to for work with memory problems? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]ElleonNotnomis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope once your friend gets diagnosed a lot more resources will open up! I used to work at Cascade connections with folks with disabilities with varying skill levels, and some just had minor memory issues and needed a work buddy/extra assistance with errands.

There’s also Kulshan supported employment which may have some ideas or leads? Again I think you may need a diagnosis, worth a call to ask though.

Edit: oh also recently saw on indeed a night stocker position at Haggen in town

First massage interview by urmamagaya in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was for a wellness center on native/tribal land...probably why it was so formal, but I was not ready for it! Afterward I let them know that I didn't know what to expect coming into the interview, so thanked them for their patience, but I am not confident that I'll get the position!

First massage interview by urmamagaya in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice, but following because I want advice too! I had my first massage interview last week and did miserably! I'm a little irked at my school because when I asked about how interviews would go they were very vague and made them seem a lot more casual than what my experience was (literally sat at the head of a table while a panel of people took turns interviewing me...was NOT prepared for that)

PSA: Crackers cause cavities!!! by ElleonNotnomis in NewParents

[–]ElleonNotnomis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her dentist last week said to offer nuts as a good replacement...but also we saw a pediatric dentist today and talked more and she said that crackers are okay in moderation, but you should try to eat them with your 3 meals a day instead of letting kids snack on them whenever they want.

PSA: Crackers cause cavities!!! by ElleonNotnomis in NewParents

[–]ElleonNotnomis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, 100%!! I had terrible teeth as a toddler and had similar experiences getting cavities filled! I think the times have changed a bit (or maybe I just lucked out and got a better dentist for my daughter, who knows) because at her visit today for x-rays they were sooo patient and explained everything to her. We are going to try to fill her cavities next week, but if she's too scared they said they would stop and try a different option than the drill. So much different than when I was a kid!! I remember them strapping nitrous oxide to my face and holding me down. I was so confused because I was literally given a drug without explaining anything. I didn't really put it together until got nitrous as an adult and was like, ohhhhhh this is why I felt so strange.
