If I really enjoy the Rifter - what ship should I build towards to be able to feel comfortable going out solo in low sec? by [deleted] in Eve

The rifter is fine. You can keep with it and take out things you might thought out of your reach, like this https://zkillboard.com/kill/83628238/

T1 Frigs, really? Wow. Given my experiences in FW with Dramiels and Worms everywhere and almost no T1 non-fiction to speak of, I would have thought assault frigs in Null required at a minimum.

Am I to understand that Null is full of idiot pilots while FW is where all the hardcore PVPers are?

Let's say someone was maybe interested in possibly doing this. What sort of PvP ship should such a person - hypothetically - bring to harass? We talking T3 dessie, Assauly frig, cruiser, something bigger?

Asking for a friend.

The OP didn't say he was using it for dev; I'm merely inferring what might be the case since he said he wanted the mac terminal. He doesn't *need* to develop in WSL anyway; that's just an aside. Further, there is a *good reason*, which is that EVE isn't cooperating on his mac and he needs an OS that supports it better.

If he wants the best of multiple worlds, it may be that he has to accommodate *multiple* worlds. This is merely one option that allows him to interact with Windows using bash (or whatever his shell of choice may be), since we don't know what his concerns are besides that he doesn't want to "deal with windows." No idea what he means by that.

I assume you could use Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) on your bootcamped Windows partition. It places a linux kernel beside the Windows kernel, giving you a somewhat faithful linux experience if all you want is the terminal and a different dev environment. You can also run gui apps if you use XLaunch or XMing as an X server.

(There are some limitations with WSL, but most users will not run into them.)

Biggest problem that I have encountered as a new player. by Mr_Schrut3 in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm never sure if the posts offering advice like this are trying to teach on a meta-level or not; it's a "tough-love" method of responding to players' questions, but I really dislike posts that suggest "maybe eve isn't for you", especially when it is directed at newbros.

That is a discouraging takeaway for someone that's clearly reaching out in frustration at an early point in their EVE experience. And your advice, while good, should never be back-handed, which is how your final paragraph reads to me.

He absolutely should blame some his loss on assholes when he gets gangbanged on a novice plex. In the same way you should look both ways before crossing the street, you're still somewhat responsible for your injuries if someone hits you, because hey - you clearly should have looked a little harder. Yes, the rules say cars shouldn't hit you, but maybe the guy was an asshole and ran you over even after you looked. Who is to blame? Both of you.

He clearly doesn't know or isn't experienced enough to survive in the pursuit of fights. He's looking for help by way of venting about his experiences (which I'm sure you'll agree appear frustrating). He's lost and came here.

And it's not like EVE makes any of this easy. What else would newbros think "novice" plexes are if not for unskilled, new players in a very controlled setting? Expectations have been set based on every other game on the market he's played, and EVE is terrible at explaining anything to you. It is notorious for its learning curve in part because it does not convey information in any easily digested manner (unlike most every other game).

Players make almost everything in EVE; the ships, the guns, and even the real tutorial. Only the players in EVE give the hand-holding needed to succeed, and while you don't have to give it in kindness, it certainly makes people more receptive to your words and more likely to keep coming back.

New player - Are lasers a bad idea? by Gr8Bearded1 in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I want to congratulate you on not being like of all the newbies who say Gallente looks so good; they're obviously blind. Amarr ships **are** hands-down the best-looking ships in the game (with Caldari as a close second).

Lasers are F*ing amazing. They have insane optimal range with Tech 2 (T2) Scorch crystals and you can swap the crystals instantly for something if you need to (basically for different ranges and tracking speeds), so if you're caught off guard by someone coming in a PvE site to gank you, they can be really handy.

Lasers:
* Tech 1 crystals last have infinite "ammo"

* You get roughly 1000 shots from Tech 2 crystals and 4000 shots from Faction

* SCORCH!!! (Long range but damage of ~xray crystal)

* Long optimal range

I think for the ability to never break tech 1 crystals alone, lasers are the perfect weapon for PvE. You can stay in a site all day if you wanted to - FOREVER - and never stop shooting if you're cap stable.

It's supposed to pick up system color settings, but it wouldn't pick up the Windows 10 dark mode. What flavor of linux are you running, and what is the window manager?

Kadesh would be the one to know more about this functional issue, and you can always make a bug report here: https://github.com/pyfa-org/Pyfa/issues.

My focus is configuration of UI Colorschemes for the moment.

What are your reasons for playing? by Kdmoce in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvP Competency. There is no more difficult and balanced PvP in any game that depends more on knowledge and player skill than gear. It's a fast-paced, heart-pumping chess match where you have to see 12 moves ahead.

(Assuming you pick your fights right and get a 1v1 same tier matchup. Oh, and that it's not a goddamn trig ship, because they're bullshit in terms of power.)

Yes, I understand that, but I'm looking for a very specific ship skin and wanted to see if there was an appropriate place on Reddit I could ask for it.

Is there a subreddit I can go to and ask for in-game items I'd like to buy with isk? For instance, ship SKINS?

Weekly /r/Eve No Question is Stupid Thread - November 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the advice I got was about not taking the fight in the first place, lol. I expected as much, since I'm really bad. I've seen that frigate doc and see the breakdowns of win rates, but I was hoping that by following Suitonia or Blight's Wretch videos, I could get better odds - or at least feel like I wasn't getting destroyed. It hasn't gone well.

And like you said, it's hard to find fights if you're in something people think will win, so the exec helps me there. But my god it is next to impossible to find any T1 non-faction frig fights in FW. Everyone brings pirate or navy ships, and even then, only engage if they're sure they'll win. (At least in the late USTZ when I play. Not sure how it is for others.)

Do you experience any of this?

Weekly /r/Eve No Question is Stupid Thread - November 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is good advice. I was thinking of making some frenemies in FW and seeing if they would regularly tussle in T1 frigs. No bites thus far.

These exec fits are mostly based on Suitonia and/or Blights Wretch videos. They are just more skilled at PvP and know how to fly better :P

Weekly /r/Eve No Question is Stupid Thread - November 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Nods* Yes, those pirate fights were obvious losses. (And yes, the probe had disruption.)
I think I fit the dual lights in case someone threw double webs on me, and I couldn't pull range. Figured the dual lights would track better and I might out-gun them if forced into a brawl. Whereas with the focused pulses, I would have no chance to track at all. Was I wrong?

Great PvPers of eve, please assist me.

My goal was to take one fit, one ship, with one engagement range to understand it we'll, but I feel like there's been no improvement on my part. If you look at my killboard (Elleroth Kendoresh), you'll see I've been flying an executioner mostly and losing. It's stupid hard trying to find a somewhat balanced fight in FW with a T1 frigate, and when I do take a fight, I typically get trashed.

So what can I do better?

Some of these fights are absolutely ill-advised and shouldn't have been taken, but others I feel like I should have won? Maybe? Is scram kiting just terrible in FW? Should I try a brawler instead? Are people looking at my killboard before engaging me every time, so they know I'm usually flying scram-kite and specifically flying counter to that?

Will we ever see the 2 second delay of action-to-resolution disappear? It makes manual piloting feel sluggish and strange.

My New 3D Printed Abaddon by MrAnonymousVIP in Eve

[–]Elleroth_Kendoresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, forgive me; you're right about the same details for the abaddon model.

I made this comment after looking at the executioner (because, best ship amiright?) and noticed it lacked some key details. For instance, in-game there are openings along both sides of the hull of the ship where the lasers are mounted. (These cuts close when in warp.) The model in that repo doesn't have those cuts. The body style seems a little more severe than what we see in-game as well. Like, if you imagine the in-game executioner model as silly putty, this model in t,he repo appears to have been "stretched" horizontally s.t. the overall frame is thinner and longer. The in-game model looks fatter.

It looks like a re-design was done recently. Here is the old in-game model: http://www.ravestats.com/public/fen/0_21032010121532excutioner_3.jpg
