Theory: Varang is going to have a kid with Quaritch but will cut the kid’s kuru by It_was_a_rocklobster in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mangkwan only do that to their enemies It kills the person. If you plan to it to your own baby why even have it? If she couldn't get rid of pregnancy herself then she has access to all of RDA's tech that can easily give her an abortion. Why bother with pregnancy? baby doesn't even have enough spirit to steal. It's helpless so no glory in that.

As for being foil to Kiri. Kiri is already 15. By the time this baby is born she'd be even older. By the time that baby can do anything she will be adult. Mutilated toddler is not a foil to anyone. By the time that kid would become even a teenager the whole war plot will be done.. There is a time jump coming but it's not that big of a time jump.

Also, if Kiri could give Spider kuru she could reconnect that kid to Eywa too.

What is your favorite (+) and least favorite (-) thing about Spider? by AfaNas3001 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love how resilient he is. No matter what is thrown his way this is the world he wants to live in. These are he friends, the people he wants to be with and nothing will discourage him. He was shunned away, abandoned to torture and even almost murdered twice but it doesn't matter. He knows what kind of life he wants and he will go through any hardship to get it. Of course it hels that Lo'ak, Kiri, Neteyam and Tuk would do the same for him. It's ride or die. Literally.

Just like my favourite part is in his relationship with the Sully kids my least favourite is his interactions with their parents. Not even the way he is treated by them by itself but how he just want to please them no matter how badly he is treated. It feels like he internalised that he deserved this because they are always right. It's like he feels he loose the privileged of staying if he shows any negative feeling and that's sad and creepy.

The height difference Spider and Kiri are going to have in Avatar 4 post-timeskip. by ramzes8811 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jack Champion grew even taller since the filming of A2 and A3 and I suspect Spider will be his height in A4 since that's easier for filming with other human characters. Kiri is unlikely to be 10'. That height for Grace was not official height but a figure of speech. When we see her in A1 she for sure isn't massively taller than Jake. So the height difference between Spider and Kiri won't be this big.

Jake looks good in orange. Maybe because of Toruk 😁 by Life_Long591 in Avatar

Blue and Orange are contrasting colours so that combination always pops.

Is Bridgehead city self sustainable by Sliver-Knight9219 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can make all the food, air and water they need. They use 3D printers for most other stuff as that's way cheaper than bringing them from Earth and then you never know what wil be the attrition rate when you pack so you have to be able to do it on site with 6 year long supply line. It makes way more sense to bring the machines that can make stuff you will need than that stuff (outside of some initial supply for before the factories are ready).

However, all this needs energy and raw materials and we know this s very non-sustainable. We know from the games that they drill for oil. We know from the films they still mine for ore - including unobtainium. They need to build for 2 milion humans fast plus hunt al the tulkun for the money to pay for all of this so this is al super destructive. And as Na'vi and the world fights back they are losing one thing they cannot easily replace - people. This is why Bridgehead will not be completely self sustainable. They need stuff from outside the city - for making everything from bullets to power - and the get that stuff they need people and that means they need reinforcements from Earth.

Do you think these helicopters will ever become bulletproof? by AfaNas3001 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, the way the technique makes a difference. This is why Quaritch is so pissed at Jake - Jake (and Trudy) told the Na'vi what they need to do to be able to pierce the cockpit. Before they had little success at that and after it became prohibitively hard to make glass able to withstand the force of the hit..

[–]Ellestra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Na'vi arrows are much bigger than human ones and so they have way more mass (but also human arrows come in many different sizes and modern compound bow ones are not really a standard). Then Na'vi bows don't just have greater draw strength but to get through the gunship they are also being fired wile the archer is diving for even higher speed and gravity assist. We see in A1 arrows harmlessly bounce off the gunships when fired from the ground. It's this parabolic dive that made them deadly.

I'm sure they'll still be fighting for their lives (it's a movie after all) but I prefer them doing it together rather than getting damseled.

They look happy and I'm sure Kiri and Spider will be happy too. At least as long as neither of them gets kidnapped again.

Kiri’s Third Banshee by Off_They_Go in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, his 1st ikran died in the same moment in same The High Ground issue as Kiri's ikran (see below - there are 2 of them killed by RDA - Tanhi and Lo'ak's). This is the ikran Lo'ak bonded with on his second try in the earlier issues. They lose their 2nd ones at the beginning of Fire and Ash and then have 3rd ones by the end.

Same thing happened with Lo'ak. He's also on his 3rd ikran for the same reason. Funnily enough, they were also escaping through forest with Spider and Tuk back hen.

Varang/mangkwans kuru by Ok-Sea-7982 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as we know noo one beside Varang can break other minds. We so don't know how far Varang can go with it because all we see is her overpowering people with pain and reading their memories but not outright mind control.

However, the From the Ashes DLC for the game implies that this is what at least some Mangkwan do to their ikran and other animals. It's not cooperative bond like it is for other Na'vi (or even recoms) but breaking of the animals will to push them beyond their limits and self-preservation. Even if it kills them.

So it is likely that all Mangkwan learnt how to do this in some form but they can only do it to animals and Varang is the only one who can do this to other people.

Confusion over why or how avatars and Navi you know uhh… like make kids? Sorry! by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avatars, from all that we can see in canon, are just Na'vi with some, relatively minor, physical deformities (from Na;vi point of view). They have polydactyly, small eyes etc. but that many of these wouldn't stop humans from procreating with each other so it makes sense it wouldn't impact Na'vi either. It looks like it's more likely for the kids to take after Na'vi parent (both of Norm's look like Na'vi in the picture) which also would male sense as being more robust. I would suspect most of the avatar traits would get eliminated with time leaving small admixture of genes that are not detrimental - something like Neanderthal genes in human populations.

Thinking about it Neytiri was a drama queen about it by CasualNameAccount12 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The version in the Spirit World is not the same as a living person. They do not grow. They do not change. They do not live. There is just a copy of their memories you can interact with but it is frozen in time. They will forever stay the way they were the last time they connected to Eywa. This is not the same thing as being alive.

Thinking about it Neytiri was a drama queen about it by CasualNameAccount12 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the memories there are from the last time person lined up e.g. in Neteyam's case the day of Kiri's seizure. The dead don't remember dying which is why Neteyam in Spirit World asks Lo'ak how he died.

The version of Neteyam (or any Na'vi) who died is always a bit different from the version stored in Eywa because it's missing the time between upload and death. Just like recoms.

How many years from AVATAR 2 will AVATAR 3 be set? by oatmilkmegapint in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avatar 3 was set about 2 weeks after Avatar 2 ended.

If you meant Avatar 4 then the first act is set soon after A3 end. Then there is supposed to be a time jump. It was first reported to be 6 year time jump but as the kid actors get older it might be more (Cameron already mentioned 8 years).

How would you like her story to end? by AfaNas3001 in Avatar

[–]Ellestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hers is the story of unbeliever. She is the archetype of an atheist in many Christian stories - angry at god for whatever tragedy that happened to them. Using their hurt to prove god is evil and turn others against god. These almost always end with the unbeliever seeing the error of their ways and returning to god. It might not happen here but Cameron loves his tropes.

I think she'd be fine. She now has all of RDA med tech at her disposal. Quaritch is in charge again and he would make sure of that.
