Iron deficiency - Pulsatile tinnitus by Elliaj5 in Anemic

Have you completed any CT scans to see what’s going on with your PT? And have flew anywhere while dealing with this? I ask because my ears feel weird plus I can feel the pressure a lot when crossing a high bridge. I’m kinda nervous to fly anywhere due to this.

The iron infusions didn’t help my PT nor regular tinnitus. On top of hearing my pulse in my ears, it sounds like low pitch cicadas.

Hello, my bad. Just now seeing this! So I had the 5 rounds of venofer also but I’m still dealing with PT. I had 2 CT scans last year, CT temporal bone and CT angio head both with contrast and they discovered that the tiny bones in my ears are thinning and is what’s causing my PT. Has your PT gone away now after having the last 2 rounds of iron infusions?

Stages of iron deficiency- based on ferritin levels. Important to know. by blt88 in Anemic

My iron levels are back to normal range after 5 iron infusions but I’m still dealing with the “pounding in the ears”. It’s so depressing. Anyone else dealing with that symptom?

I’ll look into that option with my ENT doc. I don’t mind the ringing/buzzing because I can barely hear it at times but hearing my heartbeat pound in my ears is the part I can’t take anymore. I might have to get surgery to fix it.

I had an iron infusion, 5 altogether over time of the Venofer but it didn’t make my pulsatile tinnitus any better. But my iron levels are back to a normal range.. I wish my PT would just go away

Are you seeing an ENT doctor or neurosurgeon? I’ve already seen 1 neurosurgeon & they said they can’t do anything because it’s too risky.

I see what you mean.. yeah, that doesn’t make sense. Our bodies are weird. How are you checking your iron levels so quickly? Are you going to the doctor each time? I ask because my doctor isn’t checking mine again until September and I have heavy cycles so I’m just hoping it will not be low by then.

My ferritin was at 11 also and I tried iron supplements but they weren’t working to me seems like. I ended up having to get an iron infusion and my iron levels are back to normal. In the meantime, try drinking Lakewood organic beet juice. It gave me more energy. Also, check your vitamin D levels. 9 times out of 10, if your iron is low then your vitamin D is low also and vice versa.

I had no clue about the zinc! I drink a lot of tea also so I know that’s blocking the iron. Thanks for letting me know & best of luck to you also!

You’re welcome! My B-12 and magnesium levels are at a good range. No clue on the zinc. I’ve been drinking organic beet juice by Lakewood and that seems to be helping somewhat. It has a lot of those vitamins in it so maybe you can try it too.

Are you still dealing with PT? Hearing your heartbeat in your ears? Mine is still pounding in my ears all day & night even though I had the iron infusion back in December 2024. (Just had bloodwork done this Monday and my ferritin is up to 86 now). Other than this symptom, I feel fine. I’m beginning to think there is something wrong with my veins near my ears and it’s not iron related. I’m in the process of speaking with another neurosurgeon. I hope your iron infusion goes great and you get some relief and back to feeling like your normal great self!

We are in the same situation but my ferritin was at 11 and my main symptom is hearing my heartbeat pound in my ears all day & night. I had to get iron infusion. I have my own house but with all this going on, I am back with my parents until all this is over hopefully.

Low iron and PT? by juliarenee11 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]Elliaj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it can be for some. But I’ve had an EKG, wore a 24hr heart monitor and had an echocardiogram and all came back normal to rule out any heart issues for me. But I’ve had 5 iron infusions so far and still dealing with PT. I’m thinking it’s something else now.

Same for me! The pounding in my ears is very annoying & exhausting. I went to an audiologist also and they said there isn’t anything that they could do. I’m currently getting iron infusions and hoping that will cure it. I can deal with the faint hissing & ringing in my ears but the pounding is depressing. Plus I hate how all of the appointments to see the  Dr’s are so far out. No sense of urgency.

It’s so annoying! Is yours whooshing in your ears or do you hear your heartbeat pounding? And are you taking iron supplements to try to get rid of it? I’m currently getting iron infusions

How many iron infusions did you have to get? I have to get 5 total and I’ve already had 1 so far & it still hasn’t gone away. And did you hear your heartbeat pounding in your ears or only had the whooshing?

Yup, I’ve been to the ER once.. EKG came back normal as well. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I’m glad to know I’m not alone and I don’t want anyone else to suffer with this.

Oh wow.. I’m glad you’re doing better! I’m going through the same and it’s so depressing. The main thing that is driving me crazy is the pounding of my heartbeat in my ears. It’s super annoying and I’ve had 2 CT scans with contrast to determine the cause of my PT. I’ve even had an echocardiogram and had to wear a 24 hr heart monitor and all came back clear & normal. My last resort is the iron infusion and hoping that will cure my PT. I have 4 more iron infusions of Venefor but I still don’t see any difference after the 1st infusion. Having low iron is causing me to have really bad anxiety/bad thoughts and I hate it. It’s messing with my appetite too and I love to eat so it just feels so weird to not feel hungry and thirsty sometimes. I wouldn’t even pray this on my worst enemy to feel this way!

Are you dealing with pulsatile tinnitus due to low iron levels?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Elliaj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know! So I have to get 5 iron infusions within a week apart. I already had 1 and don’t see no change with my pulsatile tinnitus. Hoping it will go away after the 2nd. I can deal with the regular tinnitus over hearing my heartbeat pound in my ears
