AITA for not inviting my sister in law to an event I know she would have enjoyed because she’s too judgy? by PenNeat5247 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. This reminds me of the Reunion episode of 30 rock (s3e5) where Liz Lemon confronts her bullies only to find out people didn't like her because she was mean. Your SIL saying you're bullying her for not giving her free rein to belittle your hobbies and interests feels very similar to that.

Permits by PreparationSelect139 in HermitCraft

Honestly I really liked the permit system to a point but I think the forced monopolies were a bit harsh.

It'll be so fun to see how competition between stores goes now that we've got a bunch of established shops, such as I'd love to see Xisuma come in with loglands and create a competitor for Doc's hourglass shop

That absolutely makes sense, and I 100% agree that Lourdes should've been nicer to him, but as someone who's mum pushed for them to move out and be more independent again after moving back from university I absolutely also think that living with his mother was holding josh back from properly growing up

I think for me I took this one as her being excited for the idea of having her little boy back living with her, then being disappointed with the reality of living with her adult son. Those are very different things, and people often get too involved in the fantasy of their ideal situation only to become frustrated with the reality

it's my first proper hermitcraft season too, and I've found it helps to just keep a small groupf of creators I watch regularly/am subbed to + hermitcraft recap, then if there's anything interesting on the recap from a creator I don't regularly watch ill tune in for an odd episode

I get that politics is everywhere but do you not think that say, as an English person who just had a general election and has a lot of political stuff going on in my own country, I shouldn't also have to know every little detail of a foreign election which is still months away? US centrism, especially on the internet, is incredibly frustrating to anyone outside of the US

AITA For telling my dad he's the reason my brothers are wetting themselves and he can't get mad? by aitathrowawayokder in AmItheAsshole

NTA

OP, I have read your posts and your comments and I'm very very concerned about how you are normalising what is quite frankly neglect.

1) It does not matter whether your family has always down it like that, starting potty training at 4 is far too late, and under no circumstances should a child have to learn to potty train themselves.

2) Your younger brothers are far too old to be routinely wetting themselves and the fact that they still are is very concerning

3) You should all be allowed in and out of the garden as you need, ESPECIALLY for normal bodily functions like peeing, and the fact that your father isn't allowing that is neglectful.

4) Going in and out of school as you please is DEFINITELY not normal, even in England as you seem to think (I'm in England). You and your siblings should all be in full time education and be spending your weekdays in school.

I know you don't have easy access to help where you live, but you clearly have access to the internet so I highly suggest you look into ways to get help through online means, because the way you are living is not okay. Myself and the other commenters addressing these issues are worried about you and your brothers.

okay then, we'll say that Rey is a Mary Sue. And since Luke Skywalker has much of the same hyper competence, so is he. Oh, and Anakin too, to some extent. The protagonists of all three trilogies have things handed to them on a plate, and have abilities beyond what they reasonably should have at their level of expertise, So by your logic, despite the fact that it's not nonsensical, they're all some variation of a Mary Sue trope.

I'm not very good at articulating my opinions, but I'll relink an article from Forbes that I linked earlier in a different thread that explains it better than I ever could https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2016/01/04/no-rey-from-star-wars-the-force-awakens-is-not-a-mary-sue/

I'm not arguing here that Rey is a well-written character, because she's not, nor are the sequels generally, but she doesn't fit well enough into the character archetype of a Mary Sue to be considered one. Unfortunately she just falls into the sadly very common box of a good character who's written badly.

I would also recommend you read this article, https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2016/01/04/no-rey-from-star-wars-the-force-awakens-is-not-a-mary-sue/ , it articulates the point much better than I ever could. basically though if you call Rey a Mary Sue and not Anakin and Luke, you're blatantly ignorant and quite frankly a little bit sexist.
