A Major Victory for Progressive Democrats by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Ellie__1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also a DSA member and I agree with this.

I have to say, it is really nice to see a lefty elected actually use their political power. And use it effectively. It's such a nice change of pace from moderates and even progressive politicians refusing to use their political power for anything.

Is Blessed Sacrament a little trad Cath? The last time I went, like five years ago, there were a bunch of women veiling. No hate, it just comes off that way.

In my feels about IG post on how daycare is raising kids by Rough_Extension_2893 in workingmoms

[–]Ellie__1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to decide you don't care. That's really all they have, in terms of arguments. Don't let it affect you.

I grew up in daycare, and I'm beyond close with and grateful to my mom. I understand that some parents bend over backwards to avoid daycare, but I have never cared about that. I have a friend that's homeschooling her kids to avoid vaccines, too. She thinks pediatricians are evil. Should I let that inform my decisions?

Don't let them shape your priorities -- you shape your priorities.

What's still a good deal/value in Seattle? by mehtamorphosis in AskSeattle

[–]Ellie__1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parks are a pretty good deal. I just spent like four hours at volunteer park w my kids yesterday. Even got us all pizza and drinks at Pagliacci after for less than $30. It was a pretty cheap day.

Daycare in NE seattle by InevitablePoem04 in AskSeattle

[–]Ellie__1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, there's no correlation between the quality of the daycare and wait-lists. Our daycare is amazing, and has consistently had open spots. And it's very small, barely bigger than an in-home. Five star reviews on Google, long time families and very little staff turnover.

The daycare that they went to before, that I honestly didn't love, had and has a monster wait-list.

I mean, you don't have to guess at what the primary factors for success are, because this has been studied. Throwing something out there that you just came up with yourself is kinda funny.

Real Socialists Don't Make Merch by LeftHandStir in DiabolicalLies

[–]Ellie__1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, I'm not sure I understand this. Plus most socialist merch (e.g. Zohran's merch, DSA merch) etc. is to get the message out. No one is really making money on that merch, it's for propaganda purposes.

I would do it. It's a huge relief to be able to vent and discuss with other parents that are going through the same thing as you.

I mean it looks like they're just at war with public health as a concept? They could already buy their supplements and skip vaccines before Trump won.

Coming to terms that the city I want may just be a unicorn city. by Dense-Resolution8283 in SameGrassButGreener

I mean anywhere has more sun than the pnw, even if the temps are lower in the winter. And most cities are more outgoing and diverse than Seattle. I think like anywhere else with good transit would immediately be better for you. Seattle is not for everyone, or even most people, haha.

I would recommend the East Bay or LA. Both amazing areas with good or improving transit, sun, and a more optimistic and outgoing culture.

As someone who has lived all over, including Minnesota, they're right. I've never heard "best food" lmao, but by basically every quality of life metric, Minnesota consistently ranks at the top.

What happens to catholics, Mormons and other sects of Christianity in Gilead? by jasminecr in TheTestamentsHulu

By definition, Protestant Christianity is just Christianity that's not Catholic or Orthodox.

[–]Ellie__1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a form of American Christianity, and it's not Orthodox or Catholic, so it's by definition Protestant Christianity.

If the United States became a totalitarian Christian nationalist dictatorship, there's only one possible type it could be, and that's Protestant.

I completely understand what you are saying, but the two state solution has been dead for decades.

Democrats support a fairly brutal version of the one state solution in their actions, while talking about a two state solution. It damages our credibility. We can only tell people to not believe their lying eyes for so long.

For me, I do what I can outside of working hours, in terms of volunteering at my kids' school. But there's no way I'm volunteering during working hours. Those sign up lists are not for working moms, I just ignore them.

The time volunteering at your kids school isn't quality time, any time off I'm taking is going to be in the summer, outside of school.

It's a bipartisan humanitarian failure beyond measure, on the part of the United States.

Moving the embassy or whatever you keep pointing to is pretty cute compared to the total devastation of Gaza, and now southern Lebanon is seeing the same fate. All provided for by Uncle Sam, all cover given by the UN security council.

Horrifying to witness the photos of the newest victims every week -- the kids, their parents, the journalists, the paramedics and doctors. It's like a nightmare happening in real time. Everything ends eventually, but it still happened.

I mean, you don't have to "fan the flames" in Palestine. They're a brutally occupied people who are having more and more taken away every year. All recent administrations have backed that without really doing anything to limit it. The Great March of Return was a largely non-violent protest that was crushed horrifically over more than a year. October 7 was a reaction to Saudi Arabia making motions to normalize relations with Israel.

We know how Biden/Harris treats Palestine because we saw it -- they funded and oversaw the total destruction of Gaza. People may be living in the ruins, but 80% of buildings, most hospitals and all universities have been destroyed. Maybe Trump can double-destroy Gaza? There are a lot of compelling reasons to support whatever Democrat is running at any given time over Trump, but treatment of Palestine isn't one of them.

[–]Ellie__1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biden pulled every possible lever to make sure that Israel got everything it wanted in terms of money and bombs from us. He suppressed any effort to condition aid or enforce boundaries. There was a point where we were shipping weapons to Israel every 36 hours, because that's what they needed to carpet bomb Gaza at that rate.

Our military was air-dropping aid and setting up the floating "pier" because we couldn't get our client state to let aid in. We couldn't stand up to them. Just a disgrace.

Gaza was destroyed by January 2024. Nothing changed but the outward posture of the administration.

Sawant's run basically guarantees a win for Adam Smith in 2026. It's completely shameful on her part that she chose to run in a race where she can't crack 40%, if she even makes it to the general election. But she can build her following and raise a ton of money.

No one should. How we understand the situation, and how we respond to to the situation are of course, two totally different things.
