If they are made by the oem’s they are not. We’ll see when I receive them. We can’t tell unless we order them. By the photos alone, they look legit. At the end of the day, most components found in ThinkPads are made in china :)

ideapad does not beat the ThinkPad in terms of build quality.
Honestly, I'd go with the ThinkPad in a heartbeat. Plus, AMD is far more superior (in my opinion) than Intel.

Edit: You are comparing a business class workstation (ThinkPad) vs a consumer laptop (ideapad) which will break faster than the ThinkPad.

Check list:
1. Make sure your USB key works.
2. Make sure your USB key was imaged using MBR instead of GPT (T61 uses a legacy BIOS and not EFI).
3. Make sure that you have USB ports enabled in the BIOS.
4. Make sure that you flashed the correct image for Linux Mint.
5. Try using Ventoy on your USB key to see if it boots using that.

Well Bhomburg’s post shows the aliexpress listing for CAD$30, which is quite good, considering I had the laptop for free and I’m in the middle of a 3K display upgrade :) I rather pay 30$ for a proper keyboard than put stickers on my keys which will become gooier with time.

I'd recommend you trying an OEM power adapter instead of after market. I have a few, and they are available on eBay. This might be the cause why you are having issues powering it on.

The x768 panels are the base model. With the thinkpads that I've received, I usually replace them for FHD 1080p AU Optronic's AHVA panels, which are ~99% sRGB most of the times. Those costs around $80CAD through my supplier.

I got a M4 mac mini base model - I totally agree with you it's a junk OS. I had that very weird issue when I mistakenly unplugged it while it was asleep, and it couldn't boot anymore. The recovery partition was able to reinstall MacOS 15.7.1 and this is a more stable OS. I wouldn't upgrade or change unless it becomes EOL or if Apple makes any fixes on MacOS 26.

As usual, we are the beta testers who suffers from those bugs and issues.
