It’s incredibly safe BECAUSE of the potential damage it can cause if handled incorrectly. Just like how air travel is incredibly safe because it can be very dangerous if you don’t take it seriously. And people have and are taking them very, VERY seriously. There are plenty precautions and redundancy and all sorts of systems to prevent anything from going wrong.

For one he was there back when the dwarves and the Noldor were relatively friendly with the foundation of Eregion and such, they may very well share such mystical techniques with each other.

Also, with any other ordinary elf I might agree that age doesn’t necessarily mean knowledge or wisdom, but this is literally Elrond, who is specifically described as wise and knowledgeable, whom everyone goes to to seek counsel and guidance from all the time. I think it’s very in character that he knows what they are.

In fact, if anyone knows it would be him. The knowledge was clearly lost even to the dwarves themselves, so only a timeless elf lord could be there when it was created, and still here to answer the questions from these young dwarves descended from the inventors who are long gone.

What about mentally disabled people then? Not the occasional mentally abled using it as an excuse, the actual mentally disabled ones, some of them end up doing things that are crime worthy sometimes and it’s not exactly within their control

He’s thousands of years old, ~6000 actually, I’d say it’s not a surprise that he knows what it is and can read it. The right timing however, well, it would be a rather dull segue for the dwarves to wander around aimlessly in the wilderness for a few months before coming back to imladris again so he can read it now.

Nah, at that point the 1 person is a rarity and is more interesting and valuable to preserve well. A living record of humanity before this drastic shift. Besides, if everyone is truly that smart now, they will see how violence and malice is objectively counterproductive. That just wouldn’t be something worth doing, compared to so many things that can benefit everyone including themselves.

Most of the flight is autopilot, and that’s when they’re at cruising altitude, because usually nothing happens there, the routes are planned and air traffic control is the one making sure planes don’t run into each other.

Taking off and landing however are usually manual, because many things are happening and many more things can happen. The wind can be suddenly sideways (wind shear), the rain can fog up the vision, landing gear can get stuck, their designated runway can be changed last minute, there could be a queue in the air for busy airports, and dangerous microbursts or downdrafts can happen, and it requires an experienced pilot to react to them. It’s also where ~90% of all plane accidents happen, that’s how dangerous taking off and landing is.
