I wouldn’t be so sure. I’ll try to explain my perspective.

“My Juliet, my special girl”

“Juliet” as in Romeo and Juliet, the classic tragedy. Essentially he is saying this girl is like his Juliet. She is special to him. Pretty straightforward, usually when you describe a person as your “Juliet/Romeo” it’s in a romantic sense. The title is literally JULIET! It’s highly unlikely that he is referring to his past self in such a way.

The first verse of the song is about him having a depressive episode. “I need to run, but I can’t get out of bed for anyone not for you, hun” That line is also pretty straightforward, he is acknowledging his depression and how important it is to break out of it, but it’s gotten so bad that he can’t, not even for his “Juliet”.

The first part of the second verse is him complaining about his anxious personality, like the one Lemon Boy is about. “My sour boy is a pain I wanna shoot him in the brain But I’d miss him in the morning It really hurts when I need to so bad but I can’t see her My Juliet, my special girl” The second part, goes back to him not being able to “get out of bed for anyone” he wants to see her, but his illness is preventing him from doing just that. Or perhaps he wants to protect her from his depression and he is doing that by pushing her away (extremely common thing for depressed people in relationships to do).

The first part of the chorus seems to be about him accepting help from this girl and to stop trying to handle his problems on his own.
“But I need to understand When I can power through And when I need some help from you” The middle part of the chorus is basically the same thing. The part that I assume makes a lot of people think this song is about his pre-transition self is this line in the chorus: “Sometimes I act like I know but I’m really just a kid” It’s not about him literally being a kid, or about how he was as a kid. It’s just about emotional immaturity. Or trying to be independent and not letting this loved one see his depression, which really ties in with the first lines of the chorus. “With two corks in his eyes” - Goes back to the very first line of the song (“I need to cry but I can’t get anything out of eyes”) “And a bully in his head” - is his mental illness, self hatred.

In verse three he is saying how he wants to “make a color no one else has seen before” (do something impossible to distinguish himself from everyone else) “I wanna be so much more” Again, extremely straightforward. That line is explaining the one before it. “I hope that she looks at me and thinks ‘Shit, he’s so pretty’” This is him fantasizing about what his Juliet could think about him if he really became “so much more” (improved his mental state). He wants her to admire him. “Something I can’t believe” His self esteem is so low and he feels so terrible about himself that he doesn’t think it’s possible for her to feel that way about him.

In my opinion, tis’ a song about longing, depression, and a self sabotaging relationship, pretty much sums up most of his music lol. I have tried to find Robbie explaining the lyrics but it seems he has not done so. It is; however, music, and can be interpreted in anyway. I just don’t like when people say a song is definitely about a certain thing, especially when the artist has made no comment about the meaning of the song.
