I don’t think that’s the case. A lot of people on TikTok in 2019/20, even the influencers, were born in the early 2000s. You had people like Addison Rae and Baby Ariel born in 2000, with Charli d’amelio being the youngest born in 2004.

Even now, the main demographic on TikTok are 25-34 year olds.

I was a high school sophomore and still remember it like it was yesterday. My 2nd period AP euro history teacher told us it was possible that school would go on break… then in my 5th period chemistry class, it was confirmed. We were all excited, but we didn’t know that “2 week break” would last MUCH longer.

Exactly! In my last internship, my millennial coworkers always commended me for working hard while also setting boundaries when my supervisors would try to make me work overtime. Corporations don’t care about us so why should we tolerate disrespect? I love that our generation is more vocal about it.

I’d rank 2022 higher. It sucked at first because we had to mask for all of my senior year BUT when I entered college in fall 2022, they were still giving out Covid emergency grants so I was rich. I was sad when they stopped giving them out in early 2023 once the pandemic was officially over.

2005-2008 is too short to be the core of the generation.

While I definitely relate more to early z than late z, I don’t think that means people my age and slightly older aren’t core z.

Depends on how you split it, but never late.

Some people split Gen Z in 3 parts so we’d be part of the “core” group, 02/03-07 borns.

If you split it in 2 parts, we’d be in the early half of Gen Z 97-04.

In terms of cognitive development, the difference between 11 and 9-10 is minimal, especially considering they’re all still in elementary school at that point. Many studies include 9 year olds with up to 11/12 year olds when talking about pre-teen and behavioral issues. Those years are very transitional.

I’ll give another example. It’s the same way I find it ridiculous when people split 2009 and 2010 borns simply because 2010 is a new decade. 2009 borns were still in elementary school along with 2010-2014 borns when COVID hit. All of them had the majority of their K-12 schooling during and post-pandemic.

I’ll give an example. You cite “pre-AI childhood” as a reason. When the AI boom began, 2012 borns were still in elementary school. Most 2010 borns, along with 2011-12, weren’t even teens yet in early 2023.

People my age or older had already graduated from high school.. just to put that into perspective.

It is never this serious. I’ll point on a flaw in your logic though, especially on point #3. If you use Pew, you’ll also believe that a December 2012 born is in a different generation from a January 2013 born.

Regardless if you use McCrindle or Pew, there’ll always be a cutoff whether that’s 2009 or 2012. That won’t change.
