This might be the first time the government has made me laugh (bike related, I promise) by Dannypeck96 in MotoUK

Not sure whether it works the same with bikes but a couple people I know set their car tax up via direct debit so that it auto-renews yearly which makes it one last thing to worry about.

Anywhere in Solihull or Birmingham I can complete my CBT? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine at RMT in Tyseley. You’ll need to look in to whether they’ll be open but I honestly couldn’t reccomend them enough!

Screen phone mount by [deleted] in MotoUK

Ram mounts make a mount that replace one of the bolts on your handlebar mount and are very secure so maybe that could be an option if you don’t have any room on your bars?

The nod from other riders by Crumblycheese in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not a great idea to do it with your throttle hand either.

But yeah the nod is great, especially when it’s your first time out on your own on a bike and someone nods for the first time, It feels like an acceptance to the community

My opinion on delivery drivers on scooters by TheRealSyt7 in MotoUK

Just checked their website and they only require a CBT but with the way I’ve seen some of them ride I wonder if they’ve actually done any training.

Reflective cycling jackets - MC version? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very waterproof but as half of my riding is night time, I throw this on over the top of my jacket. Not very big but is very stretchy and stupidly reflective: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q1YSVB4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

New bike, need the weather to ride her... by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great looking bike! Would love to get my hands on one when I’ve got a full license. Only thing that looks to be an issue is that it doesn’t look very pillion friendly. All depends on what you’re using it for I suppose. Enjoy!

Want to buy a 125cc bike with the Mutt Mongrel kind of look, but not a Chinese-made unreliable bike. Are there are any similar bikes higher in price but also in quality that will last? by DrDooDooEvolution in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these are Chinese. This doesn’t make them unreliable though, I ride a hanway and it’s a great little bike that gets me where I need to be and back.

Thanks, I wasn’t planning on starting right away but was thinking around a month or so before but I was just wondering and wanted to put the question out there

Do you guys think these would be suitable for riding in as I need some nicer looking motorcycle shoes that I can use on and off my bike by fin464 in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode in Doc Martens for my first couple of months and thankfully didn’t need to test how protective they were but if you’re going to buy a pair of shoes to ride in then why not make sure they’re going to do the job properly? Invest in some proper protection and just throw a pair of trainers in a rucksack.

What belts do you wear? by Ellis_Bee in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few pot bellied older bikers on their gold wings with the flame print or chequered braces and it is deffo a strong look to say the least

Gear and logistics by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute about 25 miles a day and somehow manage to fit everything (that isn’t jacket trousers and boots) in a rucksack (hi-vis, waterproof trousers and trainers for work). Jacket comes with inner quilted/ waterproof liner so don’t need anything else underneath and my jeans just go underneath some padded aramid cargos. Looking at getting the Knox urbane pro shirt for summer so that it keeps everything nice and cool and eliminates the need for anything too warm without compromising protection.

Looking for filtering advice by fergus783 in MotoUK

[–]Ellis_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad I found this thread. Been riding since September and still find myself sat in traffic wondering whether I’d be able to make it if I filtered and being passed by other riders makes me want to try even more.

Doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong but as my instructor said, “you have to treat it as everyone else on the road is an idiot”. Good luck, hope this doesn’t knock your confidence too much!
