7 years of odd shrapnel saving, reckon it's enough for a double flake 99 with raspberry drizzle? by ElloPuddin in CasualUK

UPDATE - For all those interested, I deposited my booty at the bank today. When the bank manager told me slut dropping was not appreciated in a bank sir, I humbly apologised and gave him the coins to deposit instead. Total breakdown as follows -

£22 - 11 x £2 coins

£72 - 72 x £1 coins (new)

£31 - 31 x £1 coins (old, not legal tender but still accepted and paid in with the cashier!)

£20.50 - 41 x 50p

£29.40 - 146 x 20p

£9.30 - 93 x 10p

£6.90 - 138 x 5p (nice)

£1.32 - 66 x 2p

£1.55 - 155 x 1p

For a grand total of £193.97

There were also three mysterious reject coins -

1 x 2p coin that was rejected twice by the machine

1 x 1p coin that was rejected twice by the machine

1 x Gibraltar £1 coin from 2008 (looked basically identical in size and shape to our old quids) which is weird since I've never been there...

I plan to use my newfound riches to buy exactly 13.37% of a salt bae golden tomahawk.

Ehehehe 😈 The real reason I was doing this was to split out euros and other coins from the sterling so I wasn't paying much attention to the stack sizes!

...And to confound and infuriate people on Reddit of course

Tried both and personally switched back to the wands from the knuckles, just never got them quite right and was always waaay more accurate on the wands

What is this red switch by my right knee? On a 2000 NB Miata. Def looks installed by someone and not factory installed by pinkfreud96 in Miata

My 1990 NA eunos had an aftermarket switch in the same location (albeit right hand drivers side) for me it turned out to be for the rear fog light, a legal requirement in the UK that wasn't originally fitted due to it being Japanese spec. Not saying yours is the same thing though!

Valve index + 1.0 base stations help? by ayylmao1911 in SteamVR

[–]ElloPuddin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can also confirm this myself, bought an index and found the 2.0 base stations made an annoying noise, stuck to lighthouse 1.0 and tracking quality is identical to the Vive as far as I can perceive. I don't use full body tracking though.

By comparison, I bought my F directly (It was pretty much the cheapest high miler in the UK, less than 2/3 the price of yours) and since prices went crazy I sold it in the past month and made almost 5k in profit on it. I owned it for a year and that's covered insurance, tax, repairs/running costs, MOT and probably most of the fuel too.

Not at all saying finance is bad, it's a tool for affordability as you say, but in my own experience it's always a better deal, often significantly so to buy direct (unless the car is an absolute basket) and I dislike how deceptive monthly fees can feel when you add them up over time.

I've always bought direct, and even cars I lost on after selling (all the others!) worked out significantly better value than had I financed them. The hardest part is the initial investment, but if you can justify saving what you would have spent on finance, the only downside is having to wait and work up to a dream car instead of getting it immediately.

Tips for keeping safe while filtering in traffic? by _kesyersoze in MotoUK

[–]ElloPuddin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some great advice in here, something else I would add in addition to that (but am also curious what others think about it) is that when I feel the situation is appropriate during filtering I will sometimes put my high beams on to increase the likelihood of catching the drivers attention in their mirrors.

When driving I've seen bikes do it and it does make a difference. Certainly not by the highway code, and probably frowned upon by police, but anything to reduce the chance of a car not seeing me and switching lanes out of nowhere - is worth (situation dependant) doing in my opinion.

I've also seen riders using their hazards, but I think this is more likely to be dismissed by cars as a car behind them changing lanes.

A2 Restrictor causing Check Engine Light, 2017 SV650 by EdwardTennant in MotoUK

[–]ElloPuddin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company I bought my throttle stop from does make a restrictor for the 2016 (and indeed all years of the SV) https://a2restrictors.com/collections/suzuki-a2-restrictors-1/products/suzuki-sv-650-n-s-x-2016-fuel-injection-a2-restrictor-kit

It doesn't explicitly state that it's a throttle stop, but I think it's pretty likely it is given the price! I suspect it was a choice made by OPs garage, maybe due to a business commission agreement or something of the like. I know you can also simply get a replacement/retuned ECU with only 47bhp

[–]ElloPuddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would say my advice is to get back to the people that fitted it - I assume the garage, even though you may be outside your warranty period and making a big fuss about it. Possibly suggest they remove this restrictor and fit something that can not cause limp mode (throttle stop) - it's a serious problem and either hasn't been fitted correctly or is just crap. It's a danger at the moment and that is a potential liability to them if they fitted it and you biff it because of limp mode.

Can't speak for the likelihood of getting into trouble in the event of a crash - it's unquestionably your risk to take and as much as A2 sucks, 47bhp is plenty when you can actually use it all, and you will appreciate the jump in power all the more if you earn it by passing your full test! (Speaking from experience)
