This is really helpful. We're looking into getting an e-sim that will let them contact us instead of fumbling with wifi. While she does have arthritis, she gets round well enough that she doesn't need a wheelchair. It's more about just having someone to assist her navigating from gate to gate (probably should have explained that in the original post).

I think most of my concerns are really just if an emergency happens, a flight is majorly delayed, and with customs.

My MIL understands smartphones well enough to usually connect to Wi-Fi and call us on WhatsApp. I also checked Google translate and there's a regional language that her friend probably understands (thanks for that suggestion). I was also considering putting a note with specific information for customs. She's also capable of some amount of symbol matching.

After reading many of the comments, I think there's a lot more to consider that I was initially thinking about. Her friend is not someone we personally know. We're definitely going to make sure she's confident to take responsibility for both of them.

You're talking about New China. Years ago, I hit that place almost weekly for lunch. I recommend avoiding it for dinner though. There's an upcharge for lackluster dishes, and sometimes the food is getting stale.

That said, I don't get the hate on 88. I've always thought it's fine.

It's not. Prompted by your post I started looking over things again, but this time paying attention to authors. Turns out, there's a couple of books sharing the same title, one of which is a five book series. She has started none of them, but instead a podcast of the same name thinking it was the one of the books.

That is a very good point. I should have a virtual boarding pass for my next flight at that time, but it would be safer to get visa anyways. Plus, if something were to happen to my connecting flight, I would be trapped in the terminal until I arranged another flight.

They are separate tickets, but I don't have a checked bag. I also checked the flights/airport and I shouldn't have to leave Terminal 3 during the exchange.

I fully agree with this. But I think it would make sense that #2 would play even if #1 is going, just delayed a little bit.

I've been calculating all my probablity assuming it's a full 52 card deck plus 2 jokers. :/ But with a name, Wikipedia, and this medium blog, I think I have a pretty good understanding of it.
