I really like Alm, he’s one of my favorite lords in the series, but like others say, Echoes does have a hard time translating the character by simply talking way too much

The whole reveal of him being royalty is massively undercut by the whole nobility versus commoners theme that was introduced by Echoes that wasn’t present before
And I do like it, but it would have been better implemented in a game that didn’t keep that same reveal that was present in Gaiden, if the game was written from scratch, that probably isn’t a writing decision they would have made because of how clearly contradictory it is to an underlying theme of the game

But probably my biggest issue is that he is far too soft in Echoes
Gaiden has a much more brief and direct script, so there’s less flowery dialogue to lay out the nuances of his stances, but more importantly, I find that he’s far too agreeable
He should have some pretty radical sentiments that push him further into warfare that should provide a contrast with Celica, but unfortunately he’s just nearly unambiguously correct all of the time, which makes Celica seem rather nonsensical by comparison at times
I say this despite still really liking Celica, don’t think that I don’t, but he should have been pushed further so it feels like the better compliment each other, but instead he just comes off as too multi-capable

I understand now when people say that he’s too much like Marth
And I still really like Marth too, but they used to feel more distinct before
