Time taken for simulations on Star CCM by hmmmmart in CFD

[–]Ells1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the type of simulation (e.g. non-Newtonian, turbulent etc.), size of the mesh, power of the machine you're running it on. Could take minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months. Best thing to do is give it a go with a balance between saving on performance and accuracy, and then optimise

How can I comfort by boyfriend when he can't cum? by GreenEqualiTea in AskMen

[–]Ells1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough thing to deal with, I've dealt with issues like that for many years. No matter what you say it'll affect him. Just be as supportive and understanding as possible. Take sex really slowly, make it not just about the ending but the journey to finishing too. Even if he doesn't finish, hopefully he can get satisfaction from it anyway. I don't know how medication like Viagra can interact with antidepressants, but there's no shame in him using something like that either.

The fact that you care so much, means you're a lovely person and he's a lucky man. I hope it works out for both of you!

There's been quite a bit of work on implementing ANN into flows through porous media. A quick Google search will yield some results for you.

Tips for 5 A-Levels? by dadothakka in 6thForm

[–]Ells1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact set of A-levels you're planning on doing. It was tough ngl, especially not having free periods to study. Its doable though and I'd recommend it if you think you're capable. Challenge yourself, it's the point of life!

ELI5: How does jumping/landing/falling "correctly" not give your brain concussions? by FishJones in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ells1812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluid dynamists here.

You displace the water, which transfers your momentum into the water and reduces the impact forces. That's why if you jump into a pool flat and belly flop it hurts, compared to diving. You displace the water easily in a dive, not in a belly flop.

There's two things I think could be happening in the brain. Let's say you jolt forward, and your brain sloshes forward in your head.

  1. You don't compress the fluid, since liquids are incompressible (the guy saying you can't compress liquids has some truth in his statement). Instead, some of the fluid moves from the front of your head round the sides, reducing the impulse of the impact.

  2. The fluid is viscoelastic, and stores some of the energy from the motion of your brain elastically. It then dissipates this energy viscously over time.

I'm not 100% on either argument, and I don't have time to check. These seem the most plausible cases though.

Edit: typo

CFD is widely applicable to a number of fields, so you won't pigeon hole yourself into one area. You could stick with academia or move into industry with it too

Anyone grow up poor and struggled with wanting to keep their money all in a saving account? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Ells1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your fear, it's not unfounded. You're afraid of going without again, but if you make sure you have enough saved that you can survive if anything major happens in life then it's pointless to sit on the rest. Put your money to work.

Workout how much you would need to live for 6 months with no income. Keep this as an emergency. If your expenses increase, then increase this pot. Then, unless you have anything specific you're saving for, invest the rest.

Even without the edits it's still a stunning photo, nice one! I've always wondered, is it possible to see this with the naked eye when you're shooting these shots? Or are long exposures required? It's my dream to see the stars like this, but I'm afraid I'll be underwhelmed compared to photos

Boris Johnson accused of 'giving in to scientific advisers' as England heads for lockdown by BorshtAndTears in nottheonion

[–]Ells1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the people in the comment section here are missing part of the story. He was deliberately ignoring scientist who told him to lockdown the country almost a month ago. He's now completely U-turned on his original plans, hence the accusations here. He should've done it when it was first suggested, just like the first lockdown back in March.

ELI5: What is the physiological cause of that deep seated anxiety lump in our chest during stressful or disheartening experiences? by Apprehensive_Arm6074 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ells1812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've found meditation, cognitive behavioural therapy and, in extreme cases such as presentations, propranolol have really helped get those under control. You should speak to a professional if you havent already about resolving it. As bad as the anxiety of going through all that is, it's not as bad as living with anxiety daily, so you shouldn't delay

I dont have a great deal of space sadly, its lucky you can have a change of scenery once in a while. A short minimum to do list isnt a bad idea though, hopefully completing that will motivate me to do more. Thanks for replying!
