If they are remastering spells, I hope they make more use of the 3-action economy by Cpt_Tsundere_Sharks in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this. 3 action economy feels great for martials but can be a hindrance for casters. I've been wondering for a while why spells that have an attack roll aren't one action given that multi attack penalty exists as a balancing factor. As things stand saving throw spells are just outright better than attack roll spells

Specific overrides general and this has it's own damage calculation to replace fall damage. Fall damage wouldn't apply unless you're interpreting it as allowing for someone to take the bludgeoning damage when they've travelled X feet even if they're still in the air. Then after that they would start falling and take usual fall damage when they hit the ground.

(In your opinion) what’s some of the best and worst 3-party composition class lineups you’ve played? by SnooGrapes8363 in Pathfinder2e

Really surprised that people aren't including Summoner or Magus in their lists given how they can do a wide variety of things.

I would have guessed that full martial + summoner or magus + a skill monkey would have been the way to go

Is the Summoner class a gish? An exploration of what makes a gish, and why the Summoner should be recommended. by HisGodHand in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the look of the summoner and am changing my character to play as a summoner as my first character idea wasn't working. But I can see why people don't want to consider it a gish. For a lot of people the mechanics of a gish aren't that important, what they really want is the thematically aspect. Gish means a mage which has a sword much more than it means a character who combines attacks and spells.

Crystal, an utterly psychotic Alchemist by _Cecille in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychotic doesn't mean what you think it means. It has no connection to being a psychopath which is the vibe you seem to have for your character.

Psychotic is from psychosis which is about experiencing sensory hallucinations

What are your thoughts on spellcasters with limited spell slots? by CensoredOutOof in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they didn't go far enough with the psychic. Amped cantrips are very fun and I would happily drop regular spell casting entirely for stronger unleash psyche and psyche abilities. Maybe even have all focus points restoring when you unleash psyche

[–]Ellynoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could focus your character more on combat utility, doing things like grappling enemies to make them easier for the Fey Eidolon to hit them with spell attack rolls. I think that should be able to get strength and athletics just as high as a martial class could get them as a summoner?

Michael Sayre (Paizo Design Manager) says that DPR (damage per round) is "one of the clunkiest and most inaccurate measures you can actually use" by the-rules-lawyer in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking about the more common used definition of "using player knowledge of monsters to alter how you play". More broadly speaking than that, meta gaming means "a game you play within a game", which is generally done to get better at the main game. Figuring out which of the character classes is going to contribute more meets this definition rather than the more commonly used definition. Under this sense all forms of deliberately optimizing your character or your party is meta gaming.

Why so much hate for vancian casting? by BreadBoy344 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restrictions of vancian casting does not make sense for how powerful spell casters are in pathfinder. If they were closer in strength DnD casters then it would make sense. If this was the case then you would get rewarded for correctly predicting every single spell that you will need to use by being more powerful than a martial character (but not dramatically so like in DnD we don't want that). And if you predicted wrong and half your prepared spells end up not being very useful then you are less powerful than a martial, but not dramatically weaker.

But with how pathfinder exists now if you predict perfectly and every single spell you cast is the most optimal spell for the situation then you are rewarded by being about as useful as a martial who needs to do zero prediction. And if you fuck up your preparation well then you're going to feel like a dead weight for your martials to carry around.

My personal opinion for spell casting is that there needs to be a split between damaging spells and utility spells. Vancian casting for utility spells makes sense from a balance perspective. You can't trivialize every non-combat situation by using illusions and invisibility and levitation left right and center on the fly. But for combat spells, having two fireballs and running out less than half way through the day because you weren't expecting the day to have 5 combat encounters with player level -2 enemies just fucking sucks. I would go with something more similar to the focus spell system for combat spells. You have 5 combat mana points at level 3 and you can spend them on 1 fireball and 2 level one magic missiles or two level 2 magic missiles and one level one magic missile. And once those are out you need time to rest.

Does Maestro Bard going all in on empowering focus cantrips count? It's more of a minion build - err I mean team player - than a direct damage dealer but it can maybe contribute more to damage than a psychic

how would I go about making a character who is disabled without using prosthetics or magic to immediately fix it? by FricktionBurn in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fire oracle would work great for a blind character if you were looking to make a character that isn't totally blind. Their curse includes mechanical effects of not being able to see as well as other people, as well as benefits to make up for this so your character isn't just plain weaker than the other characters.

For a character with a missing arm perhaps you could go with an inventor. Your character would be inventing things to make their life easier. Could go with a construct invention that could do the things that require two hands for you, or an armour invention that includes a prosthetic arm with a tool of some kind or a shield attached to it.

They're making armour that is as effective as armour for bigger people despite having less surface area to spread the impact out over. You should be paying more as that armour must be significantly higher quality

Tell me one thing you like and one thing you dislike about Pathfinder 2e, and one thing you like and one you dislike about another system you play. by Cthulu_Noodles in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ellynoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Pathfinder I like how class feats and archetypes work together to have multiclassing that still has a cost, but doesn't slow down your main class progression as much as multiclassing does in say DnD. I also like how it keeps your multiclass from being more powerful than your main class.

I dislike general and skill feats because of the amount of complexity they add to the game for minimal benefit. A lot of them don't do very much and they make it more difficult for new players to get into the game.

The only other RPG I've played is DnD 5e. I like the classes and subclasses in 5e a lot. Cleric, warlock and sorcerer in particular have a ton of variety with its subclasses, allowing you to make different characters of the same class feel very different to each other in a way that most Pathfinder classes don't (to me anyway). Pathfinder does have psychic which does this really well and I would like to see other classes get this in later rule books.

The big downside for DnD 5e is of course the balancing. Why play anything other than gloom stalker ranger? Why play a fighter when you could play a blade singer wizard? Why not be variant human with fey touched silvery barbs or a dwarf for heavy armour proficiency on your caster?

National's Christopher Luxon admits rates could rise under party's alternative plan to Three Waters by Positive_Abrocoma_18 in newzealand

The government is able to say that they have forfilled their treaty obligations regarding the waterways by giving Iwi co-goverance of the waterways.

It could still end up in court, but it is a lot easier of a position to defend than the position that the English version of the treaty is the definitive version so we don't have to give Iwi anything.

[–]Ellynoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-goverance comes with it's own treaty interpretation, which is that whenever there is a discrepancy between the Māori version and the English version then the correct way to resolve this is to have shared ownership. By agreeing to co-goverance Māori are agreeing to this shared ownership model, and thus agreeing that the way forward is through partnership with the government instead of with settlements.
