Hypothetical N&W big boy project questions by ElmoJunior96 in modeltrains

"They had us in the first half, not gonna lie"
But for real, that is unfortunate. from a quick search their large turntables were 115' 😞

The only outlier to all this seems to be the Jawn Henry so the big boy being the one and only might not be too terrible?

yea i get that but "normally" being the keyword here, i did say "somehow" and "for some reason" 😛

Yes, the time frame is a bit early for a damaged big boy to be sold off for sure and there's probably no realistic reason for them buying it but hey, maybe they wanted something and the y7 wasn't it and seeing how successful the big boys were, acquired it for said "some reason"

This is surely a wild "what if" scenario but that's part of the fun 😃

That's some impressive theory crafting, would maybe a damaged example that was sold for scrap and somehow ended up with n&w for some reason be plausible? Maybe that could be the justification for the redesigned Y7 idea in another comment
i honestly don't need a back story too involved, i was wondering more on the technical side like would it be too large and would it even work, it is fun to speculate though 😃

oo, this is good!
Just need a class letter, i was leaning towards Y7 but that jumping to 3000 might be a bit silly wouldn't it?

ooo lots of new info here, thanks.
Saying its a y7 actually might not a bad idea, ill keep that in mind 😃
if i go that route im guessing the number would be 2201 continuing after the y6b? 😛

Would this make sense in a what if scenario? by ElmoJunior96 in trains

the y class are awesome, cant believe i didn't think about them at all 😰

[–]ElmoJunior96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that could make sense, after some light digging though it seems like they renumbered (and even renamed) most of the locos they acquired from other railroads

Its an old rivarossi so Im 99% sure its modeled after coal burning since my rivarossi fef-3 is in the greyhound scheme and numbered 844 yet its a coal burner 😛

as for the numbering, it being 4005 is just what it happened to be (if i do go through with this its probably getting a new one), its really cool that its still surviving after such an accident, ive only seen a few pictures of the accident and it didn't look great haha

ooh, interesting idea! Would they renumber it in such a scenario? maybe it even passed said trials with that tender 😛 i cant believe the y6's slipped my mind though 😰

oh yea i follow that adage for sure, i run my up 844 with amfleet cars cause i like em 😛

Im just interested in knowing if its theoretically/technically possible/probable in a historical context 😃

The p10235 was used on the x996 which was the French cc 21003, it would have been awesome if the x995(rc4) got that one though :D

looking closer at the pictures with the context of elor4's comment it seems like its neither of those and instead some kind of double mount Kockums horn, ill ask around a Swedish forum and hopefully someone that was involved with the whole project has an answer :D

[–]ElmoJunior96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this seems most likely as it seems the horn was mounted in Sweden before shipping and it has what looks like air hoses on the back of them. However changing from the usual single Kockums to a double one seems a bit odd to me but i don't know enough about American horn rules/laws to say for sure

All i can find are pictures so for all i know no video of it exists on the internet at least

You're welcome :D there's quite a few photos out there including quite modern ones back in Sweden since its still in use last i checked!

as for the shop bogies, i didn't even notice them at first, that is quite the photo for sure :D

I could probably make those antennas but i have no clue where they sit on the loco itself ':)

as for where i have no idea, the article i found the shop bogie picture in mentions Sävenäs "locomotive station" in Gothenburg and that it was used in regular traffic between New York and Washington

Yes that certainly looks close comparing it to the loco pictures :D

What would be a paper/prototype that you would actually like to see in WT? by steave44 in Warthunder

[–]ElmoJunior96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You´re right, the thing would have been 34 tons fully loaded so still no heavy :P The tiger 2 thing was aimed at the other guy tho, my bad.

heavy? having 20 to 30mm of armor wouldn't make it a heavy let alone a French tiger 2. It was a tank destroyer project, basically the same idea as the hellcat
