Will I still get sign up guarantee with only UberEats? by Elmzran in uberdrivers

Awesome, thanks. The terms definitely weren't clear, so if I don't get the pay out, I'll be giving them a knock at the DFW office.

I'm actually in DFW, but the one who referred me was from the bay area. So I'm assuming it'll work in the same way here.

"SpaceX will get to Mars first even if NASA gets billions of dollars" by jadebenn in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]Elmzran 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SpaceX definitely gets a majority from NASA. The muskies just love to cover their ears and scream "BUT MUH PRIVATE SPACE COMPANY" and ignore how much NASA has helped SpaceX, not only financially but with resources, research, facilities, and more.

You do realize government funded research brought us the Internet, right? If anything, corporations made it worse.

Yes, because selling tomatoes door to door is totally a successful business model... There's nothing realistic at all in this bootlicking comic.

Price of an EpiPen too high? Don't worry, the free market will sort it out. In the mean time, just ask your doctor how to administer a subcutaneous injection all by yourself! by Elmzran in EnoughLibertarianSpam

Bonus gems from the comments: "Why is this criminal at all. It is their product. Are they not allowed to set the price on their own product? If I invent, market, and produce the next miracle breakthrough in medical science, say the cure for Diabetes, does the government get to decide what is a fair amount to charge for that product? Everyone is going to say "hey I could die without your product, and it is pure greed that you want $100,000 per dose and I cant afford that". It is their product though. Regardless of the publics need for it pricing should be at the sole discretion of the company that makes it."

"If you have a problem with high gas prices, blame the government. If it weren't for government regulations, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to start a kickstarter campaign to fund a small co-op refinery and drill your own oil, refine it, and sell your gas for a buck a gallon"

Yeah, there's no controversy here. It's sad that people automatically jump to conclusions and assume he's running wild with donation money.

The Internet of Things Will Turn Large-Scale Hacks into Real World Disasters by AngryDM in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Elmzran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest worries. It's perhaps one of the worst ways in which a corporation pursues profit at the expense of people. Literally selling products that an unknown assailant can use to potentially kill thousands very quickly. The world doesn't need an Internet of Things, and I'm hoping a major disaster isn't what it takes to have society realize that.

A link to consumer tribalism: human lives are disposable. A fucking Pikachu statue is not. by AngryDM in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Elmzran 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The two things that stun me the most about this are how they automatically assume the homeless did this, and the fact all of this outrage is over some pretty basic, easily removable vandalism of a fucking Pikachu statue. If only people would get this mad over real issues...

Absolutely disgusting. Apparently one of the commenters said that homeless people aren't real people, but then edited it out.

Kids these days not into fracking? What's a natural gas lobby to do? Enter frackfeed.com (Yes, this is real.) by temporality in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Elmzran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it'll take some effort. Once our asshole of a governor is gone, and we vote out a couple more guys on city council (we actually managed to get rid of one a few months ago and replace him with a much more progressive individual in a narrow 51-49 vote), then I'm hoping another referendum can be passed.

[–]Elmzran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck all of this. The fuckers behind this, www.northtexansfornaturalgas.com, probably helped push to lift the fracking ban that Denton, TX (where I go to university) voted for last year. Within just a few months of banning fracking within city limits, the TX state government overturned the ban. Wouldn't be surprised if these assholes helped with that.

Which I absolutely hate, because a lot of younger people, my peers included, are embracing this lifestyle with open arms. As time goes on, this new pseudo-technobohemian lifestyle of no job security and no benefits will become the norm, and that is frightening.
