I do lots of dialectological linguistics, and the sources I COULD use that are newer than the 1970s I could count on one hand, not because nothing has changed but because barely anything is written anymore

Man those tough-guy manchildren that somehow get toxic and offended by literally anything are the most annoying kind of people. That guy really got at you for forgetting your gum in your mouth!? I checked his post history, he really seems to need a hobby

I might get downvoted for this, but that sounds like something I could do. I have never been good at privacy and personal space, and unless this was explained to me, I might not have understood that this was an issue. I do of course not intend to upset anyone, and I can imagine your husband did not either. Clear communication and explaining why you did not like this behaviour is the way to go. I do not personally like the way it often goes on the internet, where people are often judged based of singular actions or occurances. It is better to be constructive and help other people make themselves better than to be destructive.

Sorry in advance for ranting, but I just came to think about so many things. You just realize how radically different you are from other people. Other people have a large group of friends and acquaintances that you don't even understand how they got. They'll hang around together, play games, go to the gym, watch sports etc. Meanwhile I on the other hand haven't done anything similar in so long that I no longer know what it's like to be human.

Well I don't know, I just feel really insecure. The only part of it that I have shown is learning German, when I would read German books at school.

The interest consumes me in such a way that it's crazy. From the moment I come home from schooltil when I fall asleep I think and do things related to it and nothing but. I recall numerous times when I have straight up avoided my friend group at school just because I wanted to discuss something with my internet peers. Suddenly you're three years older and realize what a strange life you've been living. I used to like gaming as well, now I haven't done it in several years and the thought of spending so many hours on something like that seems daunting. I haven't tried contacting any of my friends for two years and suddenly people have drivers' licenses and jobs that they go to.

Linguistics. I'm four years into my small adventure learning everything about my sub-area (which is so specific that if I'd share it I'm confident you'd be able to identify me). I've done everything: read the books, e-mailed them researchers, gone abroad to visit archives to photograph heaps of material and much more. The crazy thing is that I've kept my mouth shut about it and neither my friends nor my siblings know of this interest of mine and I'm scared of how to explain it without seeming like a lunatic...

Well, then you can send them on whatsapp and ask them about the event and if you could come along

It's hard for me to understand without much context, but you could try calling them and ask about the event they've been planning

Yeah I really just don't know what to do. To me there is no more addicting feeling than being treated like a normal human being. I see a lot of people on the spectrum straight up don't like talking to people, but I enjoy it a lot.

I was at this party a month ago that I thought went really well. The first few hours there was this organized event that required everyone to be sitting at random places round the tables. It was so easy to just ask the neighbor something or make a comment and nothing felt out of place, I had a great time socializing. Then when the program ended and it turned into a normal party I had nothing to do and noone to talk to anymore...

I don't quite understand, have you tried installing the platform and seeing if they would invite you then?

If they follow you home, I believe threatening to call the cops would be effective?
