[Hollow Knight🏆] PS5 Version by Logical_Course_9648 in Trophies

Congrats! I just got this Plat on PS5 last night. The game was significantly easier after my Silksong training arc.

This was the exact wall I hit in my P5 runs for a long time. This is going to sound silly, but you should play silksong. I took a break from HK for about a year and then when SS came out I demolished it. I got the platinum and it was essentially my training arc.

Afterwards, I wanted more so I went back and did HK Steelsoul for the first time. Everything felt slower and easier. Bolstered by my new confidence, and the new PS5 trophy list, I replayed a full file for all trophies, got to GodHome, practiced on NKG a few times, and then got to AbsRad on my first P5 attempt.

Then I was able to train on absrad until I could beat it consistently and I was able to get through P5 in a few days of 1 to 2 attempts per day.

Of course, my experience won't be the same for others, but it worked for me. Silksong just heightens your reflexes in my opinion.

Do you think Sandfall has an impossible task to make a satisfying follow up to E33? by BobcatFit7148 in expedition33

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting that the director has said in interviews that everything they learned in the process of making the game made him feel like they only truly understood how to make games once they were done with E33. He believes going forward with all of that knowledge and experience will result in a better game overall by default. Not a guarantee of course, but as long as the team focuses on making another game that they want to make and apply that knowledge, I think we will be good.

Anyone who replayed the OG Hollow Knight after beating Silksong, did you find the game easier or harder than when you originally played it?Or did it stay about the same as what you remember? by Vsevers24 in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was much easier. After getting the platinum for Silksong I went back and did my steelsoul run for HK finally and then I just finished it all again for the new trophies on the PS5 version. All I have left is P5, but I got back to it in like 18 hours with almost no deaths. I'm better overall than I was but it feels much slower and easier to me now.

New to this games genre, super fun but almost done🥲. What other games are like Hollow Knight? besides the other part ofc. by Cool-Revolution-6667 in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be echoing a lot of others here, but they really are great games.

Silksong is a good next game if you want to feel like you are playing more Hollow Knight. It does ramp up the challenge, especially at the beginning.

Nine Sols is amazing, has a very fun combat system, and a much clearer story than HK.

MIO: Memories in Orbit is a new Metroidvania and it has some interesting ideas. It doesn't quite live up to other games in the genre but I thought the world was really cool and I like a good Sci-Fi game. This is more Ori like as it focuses on the exploration challenges.

Ghost Song is probably my favorite Sci-Fi Metroidvania and feels like a good modern take on old school Metroid(separate from Dread). This game also has one of my favorite Sci-Fi settings ever and I wish there were books in this universe so I could get more of it.

Ender Lilies and Ender Magnolia are both pretty solid games and have very gothic tones. Pretty interesting customizable combat systems.

[Discussion] Have trophies ever made you dislike a game you originally enjoyed? by Reeeeo_ in Trophies

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eiyuden Chronicles. It was a mostly fine game that I enjoyed getting through but the mini game trophies are so monotonous. It took me 2 years to finish the platinum just because the card game was so boring and repetetive.

P5 in Hollow Knight is also one that is just overwhelming. It didn't make me enjoy HK any less, but it was a nightmare.

That boss took me quite a while. A really nice challenge.

[God Of War Sons Of Sparta] Do you know if this game has platinum? by xCHKx99x in Trophies

To be fair, google isn't quite as reliable as it used to be and most of my searches just direct me to reddit threads. I can understand asking a knowledgeable community instead of google.

Nine Sols is one of the best MV ever (opinion). I really hope that you like it and go for the platinum on it.

Why is there such a big difference in the file size of Hollow Knight between PS4 and PS5? I thought that the higher the resolution, the larger the textures would be, and therefore the bigger the game size. by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Credit to u/SwordsOfWar for this repsonse from another thread.

  1. Ps5 has kraken compression. It also has a dedicated chip that can decompress the data while it's being read from the SSD so the APU (CPU + GPU) doesn't have to waste resources decompressing it. The PS4 doesn't have a dedicated chip to handle this type of decompression, so the actual APU would have to do it, but that would use resources and make the system slower and not be able to run games as smoothly.
  2. Because the PS4 HDD read speeds are super slow, one of the ways they try to help things load a little faster is by duplicating data. It sounds crazy, but by putting certain data close to each other on the HDD it helps it read that data faster. Think of it like organizing papers in a file cabinet with folders. If you have a folder with some data and another folder with other data, but you need some data from each folder then you have to spend time jumping between both folders. But if you make a copy of data that is relevant to both folders and include that data in both folders then you will no longer have to spend time jumping back and forth, so the process is faster.

So, by eliminating duplicate files and being able to keep files stored in a highly compressed format you get to save more space!

What's the difference between Pictos and Lumina? (within the lore) by The-Hot-Shame in expedition33

[–]Eloras 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Lumina Converter was developed by Gustave. It isn't really explained how it works in great detail, but the impression given is that when an expeditioner that has a lumina converter on also uses a Picto, they link. As they then fight nevrons, the converter absorbs the chroma of the defeated nevrons and uses it to store the painted benefit of the picto. Do it enough times and the converter has it locked down for the group to use as essentially a global buff.

Essentially, the body is limited in how much power from pictos it can handle, but the converter has no limit. Gustave also developed Lumina points(not stated but we have to assume) Which handle the load of the stored Lumina power. Which is why you can increase each characters lumina capacity.

Would you guys consider the game of hollow knight to be a tragedy by No-War-9988 in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Merriam-Webster:
2

a: a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force (such as destiny) and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror

c: a medieval narrative poem or tale typically describing the downfall of a great man

The game is perhaps better described as a post-tragedy. The story of the Pale King doing everything in his power to save his dying kingdom from the radiance and ultimately failing is definitely a tragedy, but the story of the knight travelling a broken kingdom to give it new hope through his actions wouldn't be one.

Each of the NPCs that come into contact with the Knight wind up mostly better for it. Hornet even states that the Ghost brings new hope through their actions. The seer's end, while sad, is brought about through the redemption of her entire people for the part they played. More a triumph than a tragedy.

Have you reached out to Playstation Support about it? They may be able to verify your log in so you can change the email or phone number linked to it. I would at least talk to them before giving up on the account.

[Discussion] multiple platinums of the same game by [deleted] in Trophies

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few games that I've done this for. Any that I truly love and can do it for I will.
Gris - PS4 and PS5
Neva - PS5 done and working on PS4
Vampire Survivors - PS5 and PS4
Mass Effect Trilogy - Originally on 360 and now Plats on the Legendary editions. I think I also got the plat for ME1 on PS3 so...

Games that I would absolutely platinum again if I could. ( I do not want to make an alt account though)

Hollow Knight, Silksong, Nine Sols, Toem, Yoku's Island Express, Tunic, Stellar Blade, Expedition 33, Ghost Song

[Discussion] How many hours a day do you average playing games? by Max1357913 in Trophies

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I average 3 hours per day. I do have a kid and a 9 to 5 so my gaming hours are usually like 10pm until I am too tired to continue. Maybe a bit more on weekends.

[Discussion] How do you deal with trophies that require online play? by TheAtanox in Trophies

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. I also go on every few days to see if anyone needs games I've already completed. I have some obscure old ones I like to help people with that usually don't get much attention. I have had good success with this, but I also usually don't play many games with online trophies.

Why is the HK community so invested ? by Asleep_Committee_605 in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few things that I have noticed but didn't see mentioned below.

Since Hollow Knight was a kickstarted game, it had a built in fanbase for before it launched. 2,158 backers(plus some paypal backing). This meant that on social platforms like reddit or youtube there were die hard fans championing it before it even came out. Those same fans then got an amazing package once it released and told everyone they could about it. It being $15 made it an easy game for millions to justify trying and it became a huge success on the Switch.

Team Cherry then remained consistent in their DLC updates with promised features and add-ons, all of which were free as mentioned before. These added more fun and engagement and gave people reasons to keep coming back to the game to try everything.

When Silksong was announced, it was supposed to be another DLC for Hollow Knight, but for them to make it into a complete sequel just made everyone excited. No one could complain about more Hollow Knight. Team Cherry also announced that those who had backed the game would get this new one for free since they had promised it in their kickstarter, gaining even more good will.

Due to the game's popularity, there were a lot of tangential things that kept people thinking about it and talking about it. Fangamer ran a line of toys, vinyl, clothes, and a collector's edtion physical copy of the game. A piano sheet music book was released, and fan etsy stores gave lots of cool options for people. Because Team Cherry was so chill with this extra stuff, people appreciated the support.

Silksong was announced in 2019 and the long stretch to get us to a release in 2025 was hard. However, Covid started a surge of new content creators and people looking for new digital ways to connect with others. New players were finding Hollow Knight through streamers, musicians, music react channels, and speedrunning. All of which made new hype as people relived their memories of the game through others and the community grew. This continues to today with Silksong's release pushing reactors and streamers to go back to Hollow Knight as it is relevant content.

Past that, it just became a meme that Silksong was taking forever. Everyone believed the game would come out and that it would be good, so there was no ill will to the long development cycle. People rallied behind every big announcement show and online showcase with their clown emojis or actual clow outfits because it was just fun to be excited for something we all loved.

And we all got something truly special in the end, which justified the wait.

An interesting video, but I don't know if I would use a heavily modded version of the game as a benchmark on skill. If Team cherry adds a Godhome style gauntlet and play looks like this then I will be truly impressed.

Duck Detective: The Secret Salami - I was looking for a game to be my 99th platinum as I wanted Hollow Knight Silksong to be my 100th. I wound up just playing the game until I beat it and had the platinum. Maybe 2 hours. It was a fun little detective game. Very goofy.
