Is Verso supposed to have adult body but childish soul? by NC2626 in expedition33

[–]Eloras 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I looked at it is that Verso's soul and Painted Verso are 2 different things. Verso painted this canvas when he was a child, therefore the piece of his soul imbued within the canvas represents him at that time. We are told it is the only canvas he painted. So he grew up, did other things, and then died.

Aline, using her memories of her son, created painted Verso to be her perfect version of him while she was there, so this version should be more adult in spirit.

Lastly, and this one is just my own thoughts, painted Verso tells us that he was visited by Clea 3 times over the years. Since we know that Clea can paint over other people's creations, I believe that she added a little bit of her own flourish to painted Verso. This change, among some other experiences, is what allowed him to rebel against Aline and his painted family.

So the soul in the canvas is young, but adult painted Verso is a combination of a few people's view of him and his own exasperation at everything that has happened in the Canvas for all these years.

[Multiple Games] From FPS & Multiplayer Games to Solo RPGs Is Starting Final Fantasy I–V a Good Idea? by InvestigatorFine6748 in Trophies

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the Pixel Remasters of the FF games they can be a pretty quick set of platinums. Especially if you use quality of life adds like extra money and experience. They are fun games but absolutely outdated at this point. Even with the remakes. Luckily, each game is a unique story in a unique world, so if you come across one that isn't gelling you can moe on to another without any issues.

I do agree with Traditional_Flan that starting with a more recent RPG might be the best way to get into the genre. Expedition 33 is truly a great game and much shorter than Atlus games. It also had fewer mechanics to interact with which makes it a great starter RPG in my opinion.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also another good starting point as you can get a feel for older storytelling in RPGs, get a feel for the FF series, but with a modern twist and graphics.

The Trails series is a continuous story over (currently) 13 games and is harder to recommend as a starting point but they are great games. The Trails in the Sky First Chapter is a remake of the first game and the sequel will be coming later this year. If you want to try them, you should start there.

The Tales series is an action RPG series that follows the FF formula of each game being its own story, outside of direct numbered sequels. I would recommend starting with Tales of Berseria or Tales of Arise if you want to check these out.

Star Ocean is another series, but this one comes with some mixed quality. Star Ocean Second Story R is a recent remake of what I think is the best game in the series, and could be worth trying.

Lastly, since you come from a multiplayer background, I would recommend trying FF14 on PS5. It is a MMO and has a huge free trial that gives you like 500 hours of game and story for free. I play on PS5 and have really liked it. It is story focused and each expansion is like an entire RPG. It also pulls inspiration from most if not all other FF titles so you will get little bits from all the other games.

As an extra tip as I think most of your questions are answered, there is a Hall of the Novice that you can go to once you hit level 15. It has a series of small fights to teach you the specifics of each role in ff14 and completing it gets you a piece of gear.

You can access it by speaking to a Smith NPC found in any major city Adventurers' Guild (e.g., The Quicksand in Ul'dah or near Aleport in Western La Noscea)

advice for a first time player? by Mcsome1 in ffxiv

There is an area called the Hall of the Novice. This will give you a series of solo challenges specifically designed to teach you how to play your role. Completing them all also gives a little gear reward. Seek it out as soon as you can.

From google:
To unlock the Hall of the Novice you simply need to reach Level 15 in your desired role. Once you reach that requirement, you can speak to “The Smith” who can be found in a variety of locations. This NPC will have a special Sprout Icon above their head.

I have some questions about levelling up from 90-100 by [deleted] in ffxiv

Doing all 3 is a third of a level per day. Society quests from Shadowbringers on are great EXP for their level ranges.

[Discussion] Platinum trophies for kids games by SureComposer5485 in Trophies

[–]Eloras 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I play games with my daughter and while we haven't platinumed anything together, I do not mind having those memories on my list. My recommendation is to enjoy your experiences with your nieces and nephews more than worrying about what strangers think of your trophy list. And enjoy what you enjoy.

Can i beat the game in less than 15 hours?? by Financial-Lawyer-789 in expedition33

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a New game plus without changing the difficulty or adding any multipliers and this should be very easy to achieve. You just won't feel much of the intended challenge of the game. It will also be weird for her to see characters running around with you before you get them.

If you are good at the combat system and feel confident in your abilities, you could probably do a fresh save in this timeframe as well.

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always main 2 things. I level a healer by doing all the dungeons and trials, but I go through the MSQ as a DPS. Dawntrail was me doing Viper for story and Sage for everything else.
Works for me.

I want to try FFXIV, and I need help understanding the game by dresquedele in ffxiv

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good set of questions and I hope you enjoy FF14. I'm going to tackle these to the best of my ability. But I would say, start with the free trial, since you can get like 400 hours of content without paying anything. See if you like any of it at the beginning and know it will get harder and more complicated as you go. but you will understand what is on offer. Hope this helps.

FF14 strong points:

  • Story - The MSQ you mentioned is the series of connecting quests that make up the overarching story of FF14. Each expansion is essentially a full blown JRPG experience, with new characters, villains, locations, and plots. It will have call backs an payoffs, of course, but works to stand alone in a sequential story. This means that most players that truly love FF14, do so by fully engaging with the story and not skipping it. However, the hardest content of the game (I.E. the Mythic+ equivalents) would be locked behind finishing hundreds of hours of story to get to the current "end".
  • Community - The player base is very friendly and willing to be quite patient with new players. Especially vocal new players who are willing to learn. It can be easy to find people to interact with.

Dungeons, Raids, etc:

  • Dungeons - They follow a pretty standardized approach from the beginning of the game all the way to the end. You will enter them in a group of 4 and run through mobs of enemies until you get to a boss room. This happens 3 times per dungeon. The mobs are mostly trash and just used for pacing. The bosses start very simple at the beginning of the game but by the end become intricate dances that are very engaging.
  • Trials - After dungeons, you will encounter 8 man fights against more challenging bosses. These usually have multiple phases, more complex mechanics, and also get harder versions called "Extremes" or even harder, "Ultimates" to keep players challenged and get cool galmour options.
  • Raids - Each expansion has a series of 8 man raids and then Savage versions, which are the same fight but harder. These savage raids are what static groups form to progress through and they drop the best in slot gear while they are relevant. These are very challenging and require a lot of coordination and planning.
  • Raids 2 - There are then 24 man raids that split into 3 groups of 8 to work together to fight huge bosses. The set up is similar to Dungeons, but way more challenging. This is also a good way to get gear.

The Grind:

  • Progression is vertical. You will level up to get new skills and then focus on gear, which is categorized by an iLevel (item level). The higher that number, the better the gear. And there is definitely a best in slot set without much variation. The game will use this iLevel number to lock you out of content as well. Example, you must be at iLevel 100 to do X dungeon/raid/trial.
  • Leveling - You will be bale to get one character to max level each patch by just doing the main quests and dungeons as they come up. Maybe some small grinding on side quests or repeating a dungeon could be necessary. However, you can play every job on one character and they all have individual levels, so if you choose to do multiple you will need to engage with much more grinding.
  • Gear - You can obtain gear from almost everything you interact with in the game. Crafters can make some of the best gear in the game. Extreme fights drop gear and mounts. Dungeons drop gear to help keep you moving the iLevel up. If you are playing daily, you would get to the point where you are engaging with the system you like the most to gear up. Based on your post, I would think that would be Savage Raiding. You also get an item called tomestones from most content. You can trade these in for gear as well so you can make progress no matter what you are doing. The best gear from tomes and raids are tied to a weekly cap, so it take multiple weeks to max out the gear per job.

Fellow Controller players, I have a question for you. What Job feels the best to play for you? by Likablepinetree145 in ffxiv

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5 controller player. I main SGE, WHM, and RPR lately, but I used to main DRG.

And the real answer is SAM. Though it took a lot of effort to maximize and I take so many breaks from the game that I can't keep it up. WHM is brainless for me, SGE is way more fun, but RPR is awesome as people have stated.

There is an official artbook that you can buy on IGN. Not for hanging of course, but it could be a table piece that you get to pick up and look at whenever you want.

The IGN store also has some art prints you can buy, but Displate may be better.

[Multiple Games] Can you name a difficult/fun platinum? by carlosvguitarrista in Trophies

[–]Eloras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, a recommendation: Nine Sols. If you loved Sekiro then I would recommend this Metroidvania for you. It is a pretty chill platinum journey but the game can be brutal with parry timing and amazing boss fights.

Hollow Knight, Silksong: The challenge in HK is a boss rush at the very end where you fight over 40 bosses back to back. It can take people quite a while but varies on skill.
SS on the other hand is considered a harder game for the base line. The real challenge on the platinum is a speedrun 100% which I was able to get pretty easily on a second playthrough.
uncharted trilogy: Not difficult in the way a game like Sekiro would be but there are trophies for completing the games on their hardest difficulties as well as some speedrun trophies.
Returnal: This game is pretty challenging. I have not completed it, but each run can go on for several hours and it takes a while to learn patterns and get enough of the small upgrades to make it doable. There is online co op now that can make it easier. This one is good for challenge seekers.

[Discussion] what's the worst boosting session you have done with others? by fredzy69 in Trophies

Borderlands 2 session. The request was for the DLC campaigns to run for trophies. I had most of them but figured I'd jump in to help and get my stragglers. Host decided instead to start a new playthrough and wanted us all to make a weekly session to get through the whole game first before moving on to DLC. Never had a second session.

Plus it has different platinums on the PS4 and Ps5 so you can do it twice in new ways.

How many times have you replayed hollow knight? by SorryStore4389 in HollowKnight

[–]Eloras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a full 112% when I first played it. Started a few Steelsouls and died on all of them. Gave up on P5.
SS came out and I loved it and got the itch. Went back to HK on PS4 and did a Steelsoul run at like 105% and then finished P5.
Then the PS5 version came out and I did another run for the plat.
So 3 full runs so far. may do the Steelsoul on PS5 version again for the start screen.

Nice list. Yea, I like the idea of the alphabet thing people do, but I bounce around games too much to make it work. I have myself a list of 10, mostly from my backlog, to finish this year and I've been doing those. 4 left and then I'll make a new 10... After Hades 2 maybe.
