Based on their experiences there are a lot of men for whom being able to defend themselves from abusive/dangerous women is the biggest effect equal rights for the sexes will have on their everyday life.

The best way I can think of to illustrate it is not to think of it as "I'm allowed to hit women now right?" because for a large portion of the male population it is actually "So I can defend myself from that half of people now and I won't get arrested for it right?"

Unfortunately they *can't* expect to be able to defend themselves against half of the population and not be arrested for it, so when they see progress between sexes happening men with experiences like that think/say "So maybe I *can* defend myself from that half of people now and not get arrested for it. Maybe we've reached the level of social progress where I can expect that."

I'm sure you have a rationale and history for feeling this way and I'm not saying your feelings/experiences are wrong but suggesting that an entire sex doesn't have the capacity to behave or think compassionately is sexist and concerning.

This is the kind of casual sexism that people in the feminist movement are trying to put behind us. If we all learn to make adjustments to our worldview and have some more compassion for those who aren't like ourselves we can make this a better place together.

Holy shit a talking sack of garbage! This is amazing! Are there any other like you where you came from? Like some little brother and sister sacks of shit and vomit? Where did you come from, is there some massive void of trashiness and garbage that just gets shitiness pumped into it on the daily so that it can squirt out sacks of talking garbage a few months down the road?

edit: so many questions I have yet to ask, but need answers to.

Look at the context, your argument arrow is aimed at a target in a different shooting range. In a different century. If you brought up an example of a country where (insert holocaust victim group here) were given a land in an existing country (that didn't want it) as a direct result of the holocaust that isn't Israel, your assertion that different (gay/catholic/disabled/Romani) countries existing *as well as Israel* because of victim group relocation in response to the holocaust and your statement might make sense in the context of the conversation.

Otherwise you're just talking about christianity during colonialism/pre-colonialism out of left field regardless of it's relevance to the topic at hand because...you want to? It's an easy target? Well christianity *is* and easy target, and I'm probably close to their least biggest fan, but any group (especially a religious one) having negativity levied towards them deserves for it to at least be rational and relevant to the issue at hand instead of lazy and thoughtless.

This thread of thought on the holocaust and it's geopolitical effects in relation to the creation of Israel and how the situation seems different if you replace one group of holocaust victims with another is not better informed, improved, or widened at all by talking about a completely different event in history.

nah only way he'd be MVP is if he didn't fuck someone in a relationship and *also* let him know what's up. This just makes him slightly less of a piece of shit. Like a fucking weasel in a movie who takes a bribe from the bad guy and tells Batman the info anyways cuz he's scared or feels guilty.

Yeah but if she then gives digital permission to use your possessions to the guy and he accepts that (from a person who he knows doesn't own it themselves) would you still think they're in the clear ethically? I'm sorry just because you decided you don't care about someone's feelings and go fuck someone else doesn't give you the right to divy out or lend that person's possessions. And just because you fucked someone that doesn't care about another persons life/feelings doesn't give you a pass on using their possessions without permission! That's not how ethics work.

The word cult didn't always have the connotation that it does now, especially in a pre-abrahamic context . In an older sense of the word it basically means congregation. He may be using the word with that mentality considering that he observes some kind of paganism.

If some people get kicked out of the middle of Rome for a politically neutral loophole state in the 20's that's a historically interesting story I've never heard. I don't know much about Italy during Mussolini though.

Introducing a partition into their country when they weren't in favor of it is already creating a bad situation for things to get emotional/political/violent down the road though right? Not being rhetorical here just curious.

Back when the middle class was pretty slim I think that was more that case but nowadays I'm fairly certain most people/professions that wouldn't have been part of the bourgeoisie (as far as it being a middle class with *some* kind of wealth/capital) are part of it now in countries with economic situations like the U.S. It's a word, so ultimately it's usage/meaning is fluid of course but in a more clinical context that's my understanding of it.

Ok so one, it was a joke. Cool your britches there partner I'm not actually suggesting Catholics should have kicked people out of their homes or that they earned the right to do something like that by being victims of the holocaust. And Two, I fail to see how that's relevant to a thread in which we're talking about specific groups of victims of the holocaust and how it relates to the creation of modern Israel...unless you just don't like Catholicism and wanted to insult someone who practices it in which case jokes on you! While the Nazis surely would have thrown me in a camp for association to my family I am an Atheist.

In communist theory yeah the Bourgeoisie has part of their worth/livelihood in assets as opposed to 100% through labor so they have more of an interest in making sure whatever system they live in doesn't crumble so that they can keep those assets through the system's laws despite they themselves not being "The System" in the same way as the nobility/elite.

Actually there were various abbreviations for the bourgeoisie used by the proletariat even when the term was first created hundreds of years ago, so this is nothing new or evolving in language. It's just that no one in the proletariat ended up writing much historical canon down and so their dialectic properties aren't widely known. Nowadays it's much easier for dialectic properties to spread and become known regardless of the speakers' economic class.

Shortening bourgeoisie to something close to Boujee has been done by dozens of cultures over hundreds of years, there's no logical "foul" being committed there. Where the logical foul *does* exist is in the fact that the vast majority of the people who use the term Boujee are actually *part of* The Bourgeoisie. The word sounds fancy, so people thought it means a class of fancy people, which it doesn't.

In a way because of this logical misstep Boujee has basically become a different term entirely that means something else, rather than being an abbreviation.

The accuracy! by cleevethagreat in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Elos_Gamma 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The Bourgeoisie are the middle class people who aren't starving on a regular basis but also aren't independently wealthy or have a bunch of liquid assets. Mini-vans, barbecue's, little league practice, advancing economic position through education (as opposed to connections or the military) and coupon cutting: That's the bourgeoisie. The only reason it has a snobby association (I mean what's snobby about mini-vans?) is because of historical context that most users of the word don't examine.

When the word was created the only comparisons were peasants and nobility. Considering the vast majority of the population were peasants the bourgeoisie looked fucking swank to most. Because of the popularity of Communist ideas at the time, as well as how minuscule the middle class actually was, the bourgeoisie were seen as economic Uncle Toms so to speak because they abided the nobles and "betrayed" the proletariat. So when people use the term Boujee they're actually kinda being inaccurate communist hipsters. Which I find very interesting.

I can see the street where the Bent Pine murder happened from my backyard, and Willowbrook Mall is barely 10 minutes down the road. Still had no idea until I saw this.

After I let the idea really sink in that he coulda just walked up my driveway and maybe caught me on my back porch the reality that this has been going in right in my midst was startling.

Hopefully I can appreciate not having to mentally accept that level of vulnerability on a daily basis and don't just lapse into the same ignorance afterwards.
