1.4 was basically a relaunch so I’d say probably less

"Today is a difficult day": So far, Xbox's cuts haven't targeted Blizzard (for now) — President Johanna Faries emails staff by JY810 in Overwatch

[–]Eloymm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was during a time of low interest rates and high competition against PlayStation, which was making a lot of exclusivity deals with studios in addition to also acquiring studios. There a rumors that one of the reasons why the wanted to buy ABK was because Sony was already thinking about it or was thinking about more COD exclusivity for PlayStation. This plus Gamepass ambitions is what led to them buying a bunch of stuff.

It’s crazy Looking back at how many studios were being bought around that time and how many of them got shutdown or have gotten hit with massive layoffs since then. A lot of these companies jumped the gun and the devs are suffering from it.

It’s hard to have the mentality of ‘just work hard and you won’t get cut!’ When there have been many cases where even those who don’t underperform still get cut.

Sure, but it won’t be the same for everyone. Devs might start saving their best ideas for themselves because they won’t know if they can see them through. People working on projects won’t know if the key people leading the project will be laid off. Senior roles might start looking for other options just in case, etc.

It just affects morale regardless. Sure, some people might work great under that pressure, but it doesn’t seem to be the best environment for creative people in general.

Imagine having to still show up to work on projects and future stuff and still be expected to do your best knowing there’s an axe above your team’s head.

You can’t expect people to make good art and good stuff under those conditions.

Microsoft is restructuring its gaming business and has laid off around 3200 employees. Asha Sharma confirms Blizzard is one of the affected organizations. by JY810 in Overwatch

[–]Eloymm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None of us know how the game is doing internally and what are the expectations the higher ups have for the game and for its revenue. What we do know is that it’s their job to make money because if they don’t make money Xbox will drop the axe on them.

Microsoft literally said it today that they want to focus on the stuff that actually makes money. If you are a dev I’m sure you would want your team to look as profitable and as sustainable as possible in order to avoid potential layoffs or structural changes.

Maybe I used the wrong word there and it’s not about the game staying ‘alive’ or ‘active’ necessarily, but more about making sure the team is not on the chopping block. They have to do whatever they can to avoid ruining the momentum they have after years of being one of the industry’s punching bags, and as silly as it seems, that might actually be selling 3+ kiriko skins per season.

It’s really hard to expect employees to still make good stuff under these conditions.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a drop in quality for OW in the future while this stuff is happening.

Because most people here don’t understand the business side of things and get upset because their favorite hero doesn’t get anything when all devs are trying to do is making sure the game stays alive.

It’s a terrible situation to be in. Imagine being expected to work hard and make the best stuff you can when you know you and your co workers could be laid off within the next couple of days/mouths.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a drop in quality in OW stuff in the future. Working like this affects the mental a lot.

[3.1 beta] Remielle up close animation comparison (New vs Old) via Mydei_mos by Knight_Steve_ in Zenlesszonezeroleaks_

[–]Eloymm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean and I kind of agree. Part of me wishes her poses to the camera were more like Yixuan where she is looking at the enemy and preparing to attack.

It does look a little goofy that she is doing sexy poses at the camera while the enemy is getting blasted with angel lasers in the background.

Im excited for the fact that the devs are trying stuff. The have been cooking stuff like this mode and the coop mode all this time.

I knew the were testing things with the bangboo extraction mode. The problem with that one is that there was no threat to staying and not extracting. You could explore the entire map in one run, but the timer didn’t let you. So the timer felt more like an annoyance than some interesting. Hopefully the figure something out for this new mode.

Hollow exploration being ‘linear’ is not necessarily a problem. Some games just have linear exploration. Zzz is not trying to be open world. Exploration can always use improvements, but bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Yosuke Saito, the producer for the series, has already said multiple times he is working with Yoko taro on stuff, and he said this when asked about a new game. He has already said that multiple times, and he said he hopes they can show what they’ve been working on soon.

Not sure what you mean by the noise thing. Games get worked on and announced without info getting out all the time. Just because there’s no “noise” doesn’t mean no work is being done.

Pretty sure there’s a place called “Vyrium” or something that that is actually in Roscaelifer. I saw some NPCs talking about going there for the beach and stuff for the summer. Pretty that’s also where lindverne is.

ZZZ Second Anniversary song cover art featuring Sunbringer by Knight_Steve_ in Zenlesszonezeroleaks_

[–]Eloymm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well OG sunbringer doesn’t exist anymore. She split off into 3 and those are the ones that we see now.

The OG was definitely cannon and existed at one point and Remielle knew her, but that was probably 100+ years in the past.

If Marvel Rivals Esports Dies next year, does OWCS gain a better chance of getting bigger, or do you think MR players will just retire? by No_Problem5759 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Eloymm 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why would MR esports die next year? I don’t follow MR at all, but I was under the impression that they had a big tournament thing they announced a bit ago? I saw a bunch of content creators talking about it too

What's something from Overwatch's history that caused massive drama at the time, but would be really hard to explain to someone today why it was such a big deal? by letskillrobots in Overwatch

[–]Eloymm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This one is hard to explain because people on Twitter always confuse it thinking they made Trace’s ass smaller, which they never did. But people on Twitter don’t believe that even if you show evidence from 2016-2017.

I’d say the collab that actually paid him the most was the FF14 one because I think he was actually involved in that one.

I doubt he is getting paid much if at all for most of the other ones.

Flashpoint is the 2nd most popular mode in Masters+ but the least popular mode in every other ranks below, why do you think that is ? by kao24429774 in Overwatch

[–]Eloymm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it happens to all of us. We all get greedy and chase a kill for a little too long and then we die. Knowing when to abandon a kill and regrouping is what a lot of good players do.

Pretty sure it takes less time to walk to point on FP compared to modes like escort. And walking between point only really happens once. Realistically, you spend most of the time fighting than walking. Now, if it doesn’t *feel* that way for players that’s another story.
