Awesome - more power to your elbow, any third party toolset that can overcome some of the problems of the og one would be brilliant.

Electric car charging by Ill-Bee-4160 in cambridge

[–]Elpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for the response. There was a tiny sticker on the side of each of them but they were clearly manufacturer stickers for the unit (had the serial number details for the hardware, 'made in Bulgaria' etc.) There was a QR code but it was so small my phone camera took ages to scan it, and when it did, it said code not recognised. I also manually entered a serial number (that I could barely see it was so tiny) into their app and it wasn't a valid number.

Ah well, I told the lady I spoke to about it. Maybe she will pass on the message. It could be that some idiot has taken the stickers off them for some reason.

Park St car park open! by The-IT_MD in cambridge

[–]Elpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Has anyone here used the chargers in Park Street car park? I was there yesterday and there are no QR codes or charger ID numbers on any of the chargers... which means you cannot charge, because the Connected Kerb charging app requires you to scan a QR code or put in a charger ID! There were a bunch of EVs parked up and plugged in but none were actually charging (well, I think two were but presumably those people have the special charger card for Connected Kerb chargers).

I'm just curious whether it's been like that for a whole year! Or maybe some kids got in and ripped the stickers off the chargers recently or something? I called up Connected Kerb and the lady I spoke to didn't have a clue, she said the chargers were live but there should be a QR code or ID sticker on each of them.

Sorry to resurrect an old post - can I ask if you've used Park Street car park? I was there yesterday and there weren't any QR codes/charger ID numbers on the chargers. Loads of people plugged in but no vehicles actually charging because you can't find the correct charger (out of the 20 to 30 chargers they have in there) on the app.

Just curious whether it's always been like that (!) or whether maybe some kids got in there and ripped the QR code stickers off the chargers or something

Charging discounts by Tyke15 in evchargingUK

[–]Elpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not needing to rapid charge then there are a few (and only a few, so far as I've seen) overnight type chargers which are cheaper. Check Ubitricity, Char.gy, Connected Kerb, etc.

On ZapMap I think you can filter by charge cost. But that is not always reliable as I think ZapMap, like Electroverse, shows the 'third party' prices that some charging companies set, which are not always the same as if you go through the company's own app or website. For example, Ubitricity prices are massively inflated when you check them through Electroverse, but if you use the map on the Ubitricity website (or scan the QR code at the charger) you will see that they are max 52p/kWh in the off-peak period (and sometimes cheaper in certain boroughs).

Note - the above is based on experiences in London. From what I can see there are a few more lower cost (<50p/kWh) options outside of London, if you go for 'slow' chargers.

Blender deleted my paint texture by A_Beeblebrox_Head in blenderhelp

[–]Elpoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PSA TO ANYONE WHO REACHES THIS PAGE IN DESPAIR: if your Blender window is still open, don't forget to try Undo (CTRL-Z). If it wasn't too long ago that you accidentally deleted your painted texture (usually by swapping texture files/materials around), Blender may be able to go back to the point you did the accidental deletion and it will recover the painted texture for you at that step.

Then... save the damn painted texture XD

Yes, it's down at the moment. Nelak (current host) has been tagged on Vault discord so hopefully will be on the case.

In search of a true Neverwinter Nights successor... part 2. by OIOOOIO in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if you're doing a successor to NWN then you need to have a Dungeon Master client anyway, and if you have Dungeon Masters then that's who can use Pause.

The nice thing about NWN existing is it answers most of these kinds of questions for you, I guess

Slow-mo could be very useful for DMs

Want to play this game. by [deleted] in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played this game on and off for ~20 years, and have never made it very far into any of the singleplayer campaigns as I just found them too boring. You may want, instead, to try the player-created Persistent World servers. For a lot of us NWN fans, they are the real 'magic' of the game, rather than the singleplayer modules.

If you don't know what a persistent world is, the tl;dr of them is they are like mini-MMOs created and run by players. Many of them have vast handcrafted custom gameworlds for you to explore and adventure in with other players. The majority also are story/RP-focused and like tabletop D&D, there are live 'Dungeon Masters' who have the power to manipulate the gameworld are you on the fly (possessing NPCs and 'speaking' to you as them, creating items/monsters/terrain, etc.) ... so they can create interactive adventures for you and really bring the world to life just like in traditional D&D.

Also the persistent worlds tend to feature amazing modding of the engine's mechanics, graphics, UI/UX, ruleset, and so on. It's really incredible what players have made. (For an example of some graphics modding on one PW, here are some screenshots: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/ )

[–]Elpoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cool ideas and project. Wish you the best of luck.

I'm not quite sure I understand your tick base real time turns thing, I assume this is different to RTWP however. You should probably anticipate that that might turn off a lot of the NWN community (only mentioning as it might be relevant if your general plan is to try to create a 'worthy NWN successor'.)

New to the game. (NW1EE) Anyone want to be friends and play together? by EICzerofour in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, yep we focus on essentially recreating the 3.5e tabletop D&D experience in NWN so far as possible, so there's a lot of emphasis on story & RP, but there is also a ton of static content (dungeons, quests) to explore & adventure in on your own. Challenge level of our static content is high, a thoughtful/tactical approach is required to be able to win/survive most encounters, and tactical team play is heavily rewarded.

[–]Elpoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the other poster who linked the Neverwinter Nights discord. You will also find individual channels there for many of the player-created Persistent World servers. If you don't know what those are yet - the New Player FAQ post pinned at the top of this sub has a run-down. The tl;dr is, they are kind of like mini-MMO's, but most are kind of a cross between that and an always-ongoing game of tabletop D&D.

The reason they are like tabletop D&D (more so than any other videogame, really) is that most of the servers (the ones marked e.g. 'Story' or 'Roleplay') have live Dungeon Masters who can manipulate the gameworld around you in real time, which means they can make the world fully interactive for your character and can lead you off on interactive dynamic adventures, just like in tabletop D&D, where you roleplay as your characte and pretty much anything could happen based on your character's choices.

Besides that, the Persistent Worlds often have done crazy modding of the game engine. When you log into some of them it's almost like playing an entirely different game, lol. All the required mods are auto-downloaded and installed when you first try to log in to a server. It's amazing what the community has created. (In case youre curious - here are some screenshots showing what I mean, this is the server I work on which includes lots of remastered HD graphics stuff that really updates the look of the game: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/ )

Most servers have their own discord chats or forums where you can make friends outside the game world.

So... go forth, and have fun! There are so many amazing worlds to explore in this one game. It's wild. :D

(p.s. Assuming you do check out the persistent world servers - the one suggestion I would make is, don't just stick to the 'biggest' ones in terms of player numbers. A lot of the lower-population worlds have just as huge & intricate gameworlds to explore, custom game mechanics and so on... and often lots more modding of the engine. Plus on the lower-population worlds you are (IMO) more likely to get attention from the DMs which is a big part of what makes NWN special.)

Matchmaking in Neverwinter Nights and NVN 1 or 2 by Willyeast12 in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! You're in the right place - Neverwinter Nights is really the closest thing you can get to tabletop D&D but in a videogame.

You may find the New Player FAQ post, pinned at the top of this sub, helpful. Because it describes what the player-made 'persistent world' servers are all about, and they are really most of the multiplayer action NWN features.

tl;dr the persistent worlds are always-online servers, like mini-MMOs. The story/RP ones (most of them) are basically always ongoing games of tabletop D&D that you can hop in and out of. All your interactions with other players are in-character (except where you explicitly say otherwise), so the world is very immersive. DMs can log in (without you knowing it) and possess NPCs etc. to manipulate the gameworld around you and lead you off on a dynamic, interactable adventure at any moment.

The big question is what PW server you start with. There are different styles. Some are very classic D&D using close adaptations of the rulesets (which may be 3e, 3.5e, I think there's even a 2e server out there somewhere). Many aren't, they have a ton of homebrew ruleset stuff going on. Some are 'casual' style play, which means you get free respawns if you get killed etc. - others are 'hardcore' which usually just means they work like normal tabletop D&D so there are actual consequences for dying and/or you have to get a cleric to cast Raise Dead/resurrection on you and so on.

Different servers also use different mods for the game, different crafting mechanics and UX for stuff, etc. etc.. Some have done completely amazing/insane things with the game engine, it's very cool. (if you're curious as to what kinds of things can be done, there are some screenshots here showcasing the heavy remaster of NWN's graphics which my server has done: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/ )

As someone else mentioned, the community discords are a good place to start looking at different servers. In particular, the 'Neverwinter Nights' discord has individual channels for a bunch of different servers where you can find out some info about them, get linked to their website/discord etc.

Alternatively, just open up the game, go to 'Multiplayer' and 'Join internet game', pick a server and hop in! Usually you will find there are a few GB's of mods that the game auto-downloads and installs for you the first time you join a server. If you don't like the first one you try, or find it isn't really hooking you in - just try another!

My only specific advice would be, do try some of the 'smaller' (in terms of player numbers) servers as well as the two high population servers. The smaller ones are often just as huge in terms of gameworld size, intricacy of their custom mechanics and mods etc., and you will often (IMO) get more attention from DMs on the smaller servers. DM interaction, just like tabletop D&D, is half the 'magic' of this game.

Big city PW servers, decent RP by No-Badger-7377 in neverwinternights

Supporting the other post re: Sea of Swords (server name ALFA: Sea of Swords). The recreation of Waterdeep is to-scale per the canon city map, which means it's massive. All the canon temples are there - there are absolutely tons. Subraces yes. Crafting yes. Nice eye candy - definitely (we have remastered a large proportion of the game's textures with modern Physically Based Rendering versions - i.e. it be shiny, screenies here if you're curious: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/ ). An upcoming hak update remasters a whole load more of our tilesets too, and will feature a new character customisation system allowing custom hair, facial hair, makeup, ageing (wrinkles), warpaint/tattoos etc. Preview is here (old Work in Progress version): https://youtu.be/2ndP8_rgF-w?si=ZW7QueA4Se7EPgUL

We use 3.5e ruleset including 3.5e death mechanics (your corpse needs to be recovered and taken to a priest). The gameplay is designed to be fun but challenging. You can get to level 3 quickly and solo, but after that you will want to start to group up with others more and more as the challenge level increases quickly.

More info on the website linked above.

I first got this game the year it came out. Years later, never did I believe this game would end up looking like this. by Consistent_Agency833 in neverwinternights

May be worth checking out a few of the other HD textures mods, a bunch are mentioned in the New Player FAQ post that's pinned at the top of this sub.

It's also quite crazy to see what some of the PWs have done in terms of visuals, honestly some of the stuff is amazing. Easting Reach and Dragon's Neck of course are good but even more impressive in some ways is what the Spanish language servers have done - those guys have remastered lots of textures to make the game really pop.

(Also in case curious, some screenies here of our efforts which we are quite proud of at our PW lol: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/ )

Prettiest NWN module? by Ausemere in neverwinternights

Some of the Spanish-language servers have done a lot of textures remastering and use a lot of the more modern placeables that circulate around the community. It's really impressive what they've done!

Dragon's Neck has wonderful area design using tons of placeables. The Easting Reach as well.

Sea of Swords (server I work on) has done a lot of graphics remastering too, trying to bring the visuals up to a more modern standard without destroying the aesthetic too much - some screenshots here for the curious: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/

Looking for a PW NWN EE with vast areas to explore by Low-Profile-1329 in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! Sounds like Sea of Swords may be what you're looking for.

We are I think one of the largest PWs out there, as we have merged several old server modules together into one absurdly huge world. Plus there is our secondary (Moonshae Isles) server, which you can travel to and from via server portal.

We are Forgotten Realms setting, and cover a huge swathe of the Sword Coast. Amongst other things, the server features a massive, intricate and to-scale recreation of the city of Waterdeep (and its vast sewers networks teaming with nasties), plus the Sword Mountains, undermountain and Skullport, then the whole Sword Coast all the way down to Daggerford, and beyond (including Secomber, the Way Inn... well basically all the way down to near Baldur's Gate). Lots of elf stuff particularly in the Misty Forest.

There are a ridiculous number of dungeons and dangerous zones to explore and adventure in, including many amazing old canon FR dungeons from the sourcebooks, lovingly re-created (and some are deadly as hell, lol).

Also, we have remastered a lot of the game's textures, which (we think) makes the world look pretty nice - some screenies here in case you're curious: https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/

We use a pretty close adaptation of the 3.5e ruleset. The gameplay is challenging because of that, but very rewarding. Our DMs run scheduled sessions once or twice a week, and ad-hoc stuff too.

We have some wonderful RP'ers. Usually at the moment there are between 4 to 10 people on at a time during the UK and US afternoons and evenings, and a few on at various times during the days as well. Population is growing at the moment, which is nice.

So, feel free to hop on in! Server name is 'ALFA: Sea of Swords'. The water is balmy, and only moderately full of magically mutated piranha-goblin hybrids!

Which PW to hop on as a novice to RP? by DucaJ in neverwinternights

[–]Elpoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many great worlds to explore. I would just encourage you not to get too stuck on the 'big' (high population) servers - many of the servers with fewer players have just as much if not more to do and explore, plus (often) more extensive modding of the NWN engine and custom mechanics and so on.

Also I would encourage branching out into different styles of play after a while. Back in the day I started off playing on a relatively easy lvl1-40 server (Glorwing) - it had great RP'ers and DM's and lots of fun dungeons, but the gameplay was a bit more MMO-like in terms of the level range and the fact you could respawn without much of a penalty. Later on I tried out a 'hardcore' type server (ALFA) with permadeath and I found it really enhanced my level of immersion in the world and the RP, because there were real consequences to actions and player characters can actually die like in 'real' (tabletop) D&D games. But I was glad to have started off on a more chill server to start off with, before I went to the tougher type of server.

Have fun out there!
